I love how important the layout of certain parts of the ship are becoming. Truly all of the small, seemingly insignificant details we’ve been given about the mapping of the ship and how each “level” interacts with each other become VERY relevant when you have characters desperately moving between them all with competing goals and powers that depend entirely on distance and time. It’s just so thoughtfully done that the tiniest piece of exposition or diagram from years ago (!!!) pops back up when you’re tracking where characters are moving during intense fights

u/ThaEarthquake 2d ago

Yes! I’ve grown to really appreciate Togashi’s focus on not only the characters but the environment in this arc. Don’t think another series has had me memorize the layout of a place like this. No wonder he’s had so many long breaks, it can’t be easy keeping track of all this.

84

u/invuvn 2d ago

It’s very reminiscent of the chimera ant arc’s palace invasion chapters. Togashi is truly gifted at creating complex events all occurring at the same time.

24

u/Specialist_Phase162 2d ago

I think Togashi's been flexing this as far back as York New, though of course the Palace Invasion is at a different level

12

u/Lucky_Die 1d ago

Don’t think another series has had me memorize the layout of a place like this

The Ajin manga is really good as this, the tactical elements, the settings are laid out, and the logic behind the fights are incredible. I’d even say it’s on par with HxH when it comes to the logic and strategy behind its fight scenes. A really good manga , too short but maybe it's a good thing. Highly recommend. (There is adapted anime too but honestly i don't like it, many detail left out)

Perfect use for his ability.

8

u/Lyseko 1d ago

Is it? He doesn't snap back to 10 seconds before. If he picks red, enters Laplace demon, and sees the ball landing in black, he can change is bet to black right away, but everyone would be like "hey, didn't you bet on red"?

16

u/flashmozzg 1d ago

Well, he doesn't need to bet on red for starters. He can just enter Laplace, see 10 seconds into the future, exit and bet on whatever he saw. As long as there is <10 seconds (+~2s activation time) lag between the "bet" and the "result" his ability should allow him to cheat.

These four shadows are probably the 'missing people' Togashi tweeted about earlier. From the scans I only though it were two people). Nothing that stops the understanding or enjoyment of the chapter though.

141

u/Condoriano-sensei 2d ago

I'm really enjoying how Togashi seems to be loving his new design for Tserriednich. Simple but excellent, so distinctive that he can paste just the internal details inside the hood to mix with the white background, sometimes just drawing the black glasses (like he did last chapter).

108

u/Condoriano-sensei 2d ago

He uses a second time in this chapter. Just drawing the internal aspects (just the face), and letting the whiteness of the page blend with his design naturally.

12

u/Technical-Nose-1518 2d ago

Stuff like this is what makes manga special.

14

u/EvoAng 2d ago

I'm confused. What are these shadows?

44

u/Condoriano-sensei 2d ago edited 2d ago

Can’t you see two silhouettes on the backgrounds of the right panel and another two in the top left panel?

Those are probably are Tse’s guards or army people he was trying to add to the image but forgot (or missed).

14

u/Vladbizz 2d ago

nah these are intentional. Togashi said the numbers of people dont match the dialog lines. So, for example, Tserrie said 3 is dead but one is missing from panel. So it was about guards Tserie had fought

3

u/impulse_thoughts 2d ago

Tserri says he killed 4 before ability activation. He uses the one immediately to his left that he shot first as the corpse shield (the way the positioning is drawn is a bit weird for that guard, but the count is correct), and one who came in through the door died by friendly fire.

In the aftermath scene after he steps out of range and resets the ability, there are 5 bodies... so that's not what Togashi's referring to either.

He MIGHT be talking about the set of 3 and 2 he shot during the "vision," (+ the 4 he walked past, + the group of 5 around the corner + the 1 patsy mustache guard) but they're all still alive, so it's not a big deal if they're not all depicted in frame in the aftermath scene... which would make it look super crowded any way... but I guess currently, it looks like a bunch of them would've "teleported" to behind the reader's camera POV in that aftermath frame.

Laplaces Devil is a great name for the ability, very fitting and I saw in VDs translation that it is specifically Satan "Devil" and not just a generic Demon.

I really like Tser using the edge of radius to turn off the ability rather than breaking Zetsu because it’s less efficient. It’s that classic HxH clever way of working the limitations to your favor.

The door slam sound is probably the most peculiar thing we see about the ability, considering the door was shut prior to the ability breaking. It’s minor but I reckon it works on the same logic as the will.

Also Tser crown of thorns has got to be intentional right?

And anyone know what error Togashi was talking about with the numbers? Nothing stood out to me.

123

u/JoyyBoyy 2d ago

The crown reminded me of Morena

135

u/Warrior-pigeon- 2d ago

Yup, they’re having an antichrist-off at this point.

45

u/Affectionate_Status8 2d ago

The door slam sound is probably the most peculiar thing we see about the ability, considering the door was shut prior to the ability breaking

The door was the edge of the radius. The ability broken the moment tseri went through the door. That's why the soldiers behind him heard it close.

30

u/-3374 2d ago

Well Laplace's demon is unrelated to "Devil, Satan..", More like of a creature that could calculate the location and momentum of every atom or particle in the universe and howhe would be able to predict a 100% the unfolding of time and events due to that (That's a thought experiment in physics by Laplace), But for Tserriednich it works at a local radius of 36 Meters, his nen beast can predict everything at that local radius for 10 seconds and The Illusion is keeping them determinitic at that space until its aura reserve gets exhausted or the user steps out of the space. Since its his nen beast's ability it will quite the complex conjurer-manipulator ability if not put straight to Specialization, if it goes with the first it will be interesting to show how far can conjuring-manipulation go

54

u/EigoKaiki 2d ago

The nen beast here literally have 666 on its belly. The Satan and devil imaginary is not random. Laplace Demon didn't had that but this sure as hell have that subtext.

19

u/TickTak28 2d ago edited 2d ago

I’d Definitely say tsserednich is meant to represent the antichrist specifically . The 666 on his personal nen beast him having a saints holy halo on the cover of this batch him technically dying and resurrecting . Togashi regularly uses different Christian motifs Chrollo as another being on the nose as lucifer having a reverse cross and you could argue mocking god by having 12 disciples( spiders) interestingly Chrollo mentions Judas betraying Jesus so Jesus is an actual historical figure in the hxh world

47

u/Warrior-pigeon- 2d ago

I’m aware I’m not saying the actual Laplaces demon hypothetical is Satan, I’m saying the wording for the name in Japanese used here is specified to be read as “Satan” rather than “Demon”.

Why is there a whole extra wall separating the princes' quarters from the king's (bottom) and the soldiers' (left), but then the VVIP/recreational passage (right) is directly connected to the princes' quarters instead of the outer wall hallway? It's kinda a curious distinction in the layout.

5

u/Thick-Situation4037 1d ago

An in-universe explanation could be that it was built this way to allow the 3rd/4th/7th princes to visit the mafia heads without scrutiny. Otherwise princes are only supposed to go to the banquet hall area.

But it seems more likely there’s just an inconsistency in the drawings, like someone else pointed out with the A/C passage labeling. Ever since the Woble name thing feels like harder to say something’s 100% a mistake though.

11

u/sircrazyclown 2d ago

The route he is actually taking doesn't add up with what he's planning in 418, the connecting passage nearest to the Casino area should be Route C, going by this mini map. Might be a mix up on the A/C labelling and explanation on 418.

Being in Zetsu and getting hit with an En is gonna hurt

49

u/Cheesecake-3292 2d ago edited 2d ago

Is it? I i thought that was very specifically a royal guard level thing (or at least i dont remember having seen someone getting shocked from en since knov)

111

u/guckfender 2d ago

Hisoka did that to Gon and Killua in Heavens Arena, they werent able to move. it might not hurt but it could shock him out of zetsu

28

u/SuccessionWarFan 2d ago

And Hisoka wasn’t even trying to hurt them, just warn them off.
And then Wing did it and it sent Killua up a wall.

8

u/Corazon144 2d ago

It might not since he trained to not snap back to reality by any outside stimulus. Although he hasn’t practiced it against hostile Nen aura attack. And we do know it can hurt and leave you severely injured if you’re not prepared to face against it.

I would be neat however if we find out his beast allows him to be undetectable and unaffected by a Nen technique in order to continue the illusion. With the caveat it lessens his time significantly. Other wise detection techniques could find him and break his spell. Which isn’t that bad of a weakness since you have to believe you are under a spell.

22

u/SuccessionWarFan 2d ago

Didn’t Tserriednich note that pain could break him out of Zetsu? Ren filled with malice won’t be pleasant, and it may be more stimulus than getting pinged on the forehead with an aura ball or the smashing of a glass.

5

u/Corazon144 2d ago

He did. He said he trained so nothing could break him out of it other than actual harm. Which is why it still unknown if he would be affected by a Ren attack. In theory he should but we shall see if and when it happens.

91

u/random_boner6996 2d ago

Most En is neutral, i think it's more likely somebody activates malicious Ren while he happens to be near and he shits himself

65

u/RaggedAngel 2d ago

Hisoka is going to be a rough surprise if they run into each other

18

u/EsCuez 2d ago edited 2d ago

That’s a good point, if hisoka has the opportunity to perceive him then he might judge his “rating”. I don’t see how Tser isn’t atleast a 95 or higher. And if hisoka has his normal emotional reaction, maybe he’ll blast ren all over which will be the bump/pain he was concerned about.

42

u/Kujaix 2d ago edited 2d ago

Tserri doesn't have a load of aura, martial combat experience, high physical stats, or skill in advanced techniques.

There is so much more to being a strong opponent than having a busted ability. We know many who don't have busted abilities who would still score high. I think Hisoka will see Tserri as privledged trash.

He's not rating him higher than Zodiacs or the Invasion Force.

31

u/camaron28 2d ago

Or maybe he will see Tserri's potential and they will fuck crazy style.

11

u/Arcenus 2d ago

Tserri does specifically has a shitload of aura, as stated by Theta, he unconsciously created the nen beast to store that excess aura when he performed zetsu

6

u/Kujaix 2d ago

Theta stated that what chapter? 384 she only states it's horrifying, no comments about amounts. And that's still Theta, not a high level nen user in Hisoka Different standards as Highrigh highlights.

It's not excess aura. It stores aura. Where are you getting excess from?

You're always releasing aura that just floats away to eventually dissipate into the air. Tserri's beast accumulates what is normally lost even when sitting calm and still. Creating an efficient loop avoiding waste.

We also don't know the true reason for the beast beyond being a genius. It's jusr odd to think Hisoka will rate a neophyte over 99% of the cast when Ren alone will probably shake Tserri out of Zetsu just as a defensive measure.

Dude is addicted to those short term gains. No subtley at all.

I hope he gets his ass busted due to that. Not necessarily lose the Succession War or getting done by Big Ben, but SOMEONE should teach him a basic lesson in humility (before Kurapika / Chrollo teaches him a very, very harsh lesson on the importance of human rights).

5

u/Local-Hornet-3057 1d ago

Eyewitness talking about a ghost or invisible guy. Considering the amount of Nen Users participating in this contest, I doubt it comes back to bite his ass.

Terrorsandwich already guessed his father is neutral and even if he opens the coffin he won't rat him out. Unless someone asks him directly. And why would they? Tserri is dead, for Benjamin at least. Doubt he gets suspicious considering his circumstances.

3

u/silver-cat-13 1d ago

He cover his face to avoid quick detection. He has to make sure to keep activating Laplace devils to see the next 10 seconds and keep deactivating.

At least does not seem thr current soldiers he has seen are aware of nen. If he encounter a soldier from the 1st prince could be different

75

u/puppyKittten 2d ago edited 2d ago

Wow, props to u/Babilonw who compared Tserri''s nen beast to Laplace's demon half a year ago!!!

This also makes sense of the will issue. The nen beast being omniscient would know Tserri's intentions. In a way its directing a scene to play out, and represents what I am assuming is Tserri's belief in determinism and no free will. The hypocrisy of Tserri and his god complex, this belief probably applies to everyone other than himself.

So while everyone must deterministically follow the script of the ephemeral 10s, Tserri can change his fate.

Interestingly, Tserri lucky numbers 469 may reference 4.669 the Feigenbaum constant from chaos theory.

Would be ironic being his lucky numbers because chaos shatters the idea of order and control (Laplace demons determinism) of the universe.

Edit: adding my butterfly effect theory here too, seems relevant lol.

So Hisoka and Tser meeting is inevitable after all.

Something interesting about Tser's ability is it's similar to an old video tape recorder device.

  • His vision sees a fuzzy screen like he's watching a tape.
  • Got a limited play time and needs to charge its battery.
  • He hears static noises in the background and it increases when he walks further away from the antenna aka his nen beast.
  • Can jump forward 10 seconds like any video player.

Got this observation thanks to this commentor, but I've figured more details the more i dig into it.

The settings of Tser's ability being like tapes recorders suggests he's very much into watching tapes or even making them at this point, especially gore and snuff tapes, no wonder why he got 2 of Sarasa's killers in his room because they made the kind of tapes he likes and he most likely got Sarasa's tape, maybe he's a fan of their works and now they're helping him to make videos of his new works.

30

u/Hoozuki_Mangetsu 2d ago

That is actually a very interesting way of looking at it you might be onto something here

16

u/contactfetty 2d ago

Very good observation from both of you ! He really does love tapes enough to have his ability influenced by it, since it was his nen beast, it’s definitely on a deep subconscious level which makes makes it more unnerving !

17

u/Chemical73 2d ago

video tapes are also heavily troupe-coded (flashbacks to meteor city was all about video tapes).

you already are making the connection, I just wanted to point out that it's something he "shares" with Chrollo in a weird way.

34

u/umbrazno 2d ago

Interestingly, Hisoka might need to kill Tserri to prevent the possibility of Chrollo stealin’ this broken ability of his.

21

u/Chansharp 2d ago

Yea, old Hisoka I could see toying with Tserri because he's got huge potential

Current laser focused Hisoka would definitely kill Tserri to stop Chrollo from "cheating" in their rematch

u/Choclon 2d ago

I like that he seems to have to remain in Zetsu the whole time. That way, if he wants to reactivate the ability, he only needs to leave its range and close his eyes again.

I think that is already a significant enough weakness. It would be extremely difficult for Tserriednich to fight a competent Nen user while staying in Zetsu the entire time. Escaping should still be relatively easy, but actually going on the offensive becomes much more complicated.

I think he’ll only become truly dangerous to characters like Hisoka once he learns to enter Zetsu instantly. At that point, he could stay within fighting range and, every ten seconds, send a new illusory version of himself at his opponent.

That would be an absolutely insane strategy from the opponent’s perspective. Imagine having to “kill” Tserriednich every ten seconds, only for another version of him to immediately come at you. It wouldn’t matter how many you took down, they would just keep coming, for hours on end.

46

u/Grumpchkin 2d ago

The time conversion as well as his ego would probably make Tserriednich avoid attrition tactics unless absolutely necessary. Ideally for him he should have a way to kill anyone within at most a handful of activations.

16

u/sabinACTS 2d ago

Hmmm no not for hours an end, his antenna has a battery life of 30-40 minutes no? That was a big point plot point of it.

Also, if he has to stay in Zetsu and the opponent uses Nen to reinforce his body, how would Tserri hurt him? Bullets don’t work.

29

u/Choclon 2d ago

Last chapter, he said four hours; this chapter, he says 40 minutes. He doesn’t actually know how much charge he has built up yet, or whether there’s a maximum amount of charge he can accumulate.

19

u/SmebodyTheGamer 2d ago

Yeah, the 40 minutes is more so a worst case scenario he guessed

9

u/mildbalinese 2d ago

Ohh Thats very important point from previous chapter

5

u/Specialist_Phase162 2d ago

I'd like to see how well he can see nen attacks in the ephemeral time, since he can't use gyo with his ability

→ More replies (1)

3

u/AntiLurkerPopUpBoy00 2d ago

Tserriednich has to attack at some point tho, which means not reactivating Parallel Future. If someone has a basic enough understanding of the ability and is quick enough to react to the corpse disappearing, they could dodge basically any attempt he uses to attack out of Parallel Future.

43

u/ThaEarthquake 2d ago edited 2d ago

Nice getting a demonstration of Tserri’s offensive capabilities with all of the tactical positioning and ambushes.. Gonna be interesting to see how he adjusts when guns no longer get the job done. If he starts donut-ing people with charged up nen punches I’m gonna lose it.

8

u/Linnus42 2d ago

Maybe he will keep the gun but charge the bullets with Nen.

136

u/Choclon 2d ago

The biggest weakness of the ability seems to be its lack of offensive power. Against Nen users, a pistol probably won’t be enough. Getting a stronger weapon is one option, but an even better solution would be for his GSB to create some subordinates for him. Having a small army of monsters at his disposal would at least fill that gap in his arsenal.

Of course, if he has enough time to train, reducing his Zetsu activation time to zero, or as close to instantaneous as possible, would be an even bigger improvement. He could then switch between Ken and Zetsu almost instantly, allowing him to attack and defend normally before activating his ability whenever he needs to escape or reset the illusion.

121

u/Any-Contact411 2d ago

And the fact he called it level 1. He is aware and having fun learning real-time.

"This person shouldnt learn nen."

29

u/Drunkhobo101 2d ago

To use the exp analogy, something that is actually being used by Morena ironically enough, he has reached the max level he can obtain in that room and now will hit a new growth curve as the challenges he faces force him to use his ability more, in more technical ways, and against adversarial forces. Pulling this off should be seen as a HUGE leap in his abilities and potential from what he could accomplish with Theta and Salkov.

28

u/RaggedAngel 2d ago

That's true, but his current activation time of a couple seconds is already insanely fast. I think that's about the pace that very experienced nen users have, though we don't have a lot of examples because Zetsu is such a niche / risky state to put yourself in.

I'm sure he can make that time shorter, but I would be surprised if it ever gets below a second. I'm assuming that this is like with sprinting times, where every extra fraction of a second is harder to drop than the last.

53

u/reChrawnus 2d ago

That's true, but his current activation time of a couple seconds is already insanely fast.

It's really not. The speed at which he progressed to that point was insanely fast, but the time it takes him to activate Zetsu is still slow compared to an experienced nen user. Gon and Killua were able to go in and out of Zetsu in a fraction of a second while they were doing the Bubble Horse challenge in Greed Island (chapter 141).

16

u/RaggedAngel 2d ago

Oh, I'd completely forgotten this. Great example.

9

u/CarrotoTrash 2d ago

Good point, I was thinking that Salkov saying it took him years to reach that point - even after knowing Zetsu from birth - made Tserri super impressive, but I guess even Salkov's Zetsu pales in comparison to Gon/Killua

4

u/Rodiciel 2d ago

Great example, thanks for showing it as I had forgotten about it. I thought we didn't know the activation time for other nen users.

12

u/BloodyScout 2d ago

I think from the way it’s been worded that the plateau he hit with his zetsu speed may be a permanent limit (to offset how strong the ability is) or it requires the ability to first reach level 2, if he wants to lower it further

His Guardian Nen Best funnily enough may have this exact ability. After all it turns people into 'not a human' after lying enough time.

u/EigoKaiki 2d ago edited 2d ago

Called it. Tserri's ability is similiar to Laplace's Demon. This chapter also semi-confirmed my theory that a large part of his illusion is simply manipulation. Specificly the manipulation of the senses of other people and not some timeline manipulation or nen space creation ability.

Also the Japanese spelling of the ability name is slightly unusual. It spelled as 'Laplace's Devil' and not Laplace's Demon. It may be a slight hint that Bohemian Rhapsody's lyrics (the song by Queen and not the nen beast) may be forshadowing Benjamin fate. As in the song it is said that "Beelzebub has a Devil put aside for me, for me, for me".

15

u/Tindyflow 2d ago

I think it's It's because "Demon" and "Devil" can sometimes translate to either "Oni", "Akuma" or others.

The theory is usually translated to "Rapurasu no Akuma". And there are a load of characters that also use the "Devil" nomination.

It is a fun link to bohemian rhapsody though. :)

5

u/Viburnum_Opulus_99 2d ago

I think it’s more to emphasize the idea of “devils” in the Western/Christian sense, to fit with the overall Antichrist theming Tse has been given.

In a complete English translation that emphasis becomes unnecessary, so I think it makes sense for the translation to keep the concept’s most well known name.

10

u/GiltPeacock 2d ago

Nice one picking up on that

12

u/Mysterious_Rate_6955 2d ago

i think it has to do with the Laplace's Demon of the philosophical experiment on scientific determinism that posits that an intellect capable of knowing the state of every atom at a given moment could predict the entire future and the entire past, which is related to his ability of the ten seconds in the future.

5

u/EigoKaiki 2d ago

The spelling have nothing to with that. The reference for the theory/thought experiment is obvious. But if it was only a reference and nothing more the Japanese raw would have spelled it as Laplace's Demon and not Devil.

His lucky numbers are from Chinese numerology, so the meanings should first be understood from that system, since Kakin is heavily inspired by China.
4 in Cantonese sounds like the word for death, so it is widely considered unlucky and this association originated in China. It's also important to note that in Mandarin it sounds like the word for fortune, and can be considered lucky.
6 & 9 are lucky numbers in China. 666 has a positive association, unlike in the west, because it represents "smoothness". 9 represents longevity and was mostly associated with emperors and weddings.
There are also mathematical associations w 4,9,6 that other people have explained better than I can, but what I recognized is that Theta is the Greek symbol that represents 9, and death. The symbol today is used in math to represent unknown angles, while Theta functions are special functions of several complex variables.
Theta is an unknown variable in Tserried's plan, imo.
The fact that 4 & 9 are shown on the machines at the end should give us a big hint, even if we can't be sure yet whether they represent spiders, princes, or something else. At the very least, Tserri will be lucky.

1. Tserriednich exits Room 1004 while still under the first activation of Laplace Devil.
The guards stationed directly outside Room 1004 are within the Antenna’s 36-meter range and therefore cannot see Tserriednich. Meanwhile, the guards outside Room 1006, who are outside the area of effect, can see him. However, they convince themselves that Tserriednich must be a member of the army.

2. Tserriednich crosses the corridor of the Princes’ Living Quarters and enters the next corridor.
As he moves toward the door, the static grows louder. The moment he steps into the next corridor, Laplace Devil breaks because he has moved outside its effective range. The guards behind him immediately snap out of the illusion, just in time to hear the door in front of them lock.
At this point, the fake body left behind in the coffin also disappears. Anyone who subsequently opens the coffin will find only a pile of guns.

3. Tserriednich becomes visible to the guards on the other side of the door.
With Laplace Devil temporarily deactivated, all of the passageway guards can see his real form. In the brief moment of shock and confusion that follows, Tserriednich shoots and kills four guards before activating Laplace Devil again.
Having already observed the next ten seconds through his ephemeral vision, Tserriednich uses this knowledge to safely navigate the ensuing gunfire and advance farther up the corridor.

4. Tserriednich reaches the corner and bypasses another group of guards.
The guards within Laplace Devil’s range cannot see his real form. Instead, they perceive an illusion of chaos and mayhem unfolding farther down the corridor.
However, additional soldiers arriving from farther away are able to see Tserriednich because they were outside Laplace Devil’s range when he activated it. Once again, Tserriednich takes advantage of their disbelief and confusion to approach the newly arrived soldiers.
He then deliberately moves outside Laplace Devil’s range for a second time, causing the ability to deactivate. Back at the passageway door, the illusion collapses and Tserriednich’s fake corpse disappears. He uses the resulting chaos to activate Laplace Devil for a third time and continue his escape.

5. Tserriednich initially heads toward the Banquet Hall and the King’s residential area, where he commits a massacre.
He then backtracks and moves upward and around the corridor. His diversion succeeds: the soldiers converge on the bloodbath and pursue him in that direction, believing that the King is his target.

6. With the soldiers distracted, Tserriednich makes his way toward the casino.
By this point, Tier 1 has been completely sealed off. However, Tserriednich knows of an emergency exit from the casino and plans to fight his way out through it.

As always from togashi beautiful inspiration

Tserriednich Ability Name comes from Laplace's demon is a famous thought experiment proposed by French scholar Pierre-Simon Laplace in 1814 that illustrates the idea of strict causal.

The Core Idea: If a super-intelligent being knew the exact position and momentum of every single atom or particle in the universe at one moment, and understood all the laws of nature, it could calculate the entire past and future.

Also note for people expecting terror and hisoka to meet hisoka is in his room under martial law so probably they will not cross paths unless hisoka goes against the law which is unlikely.

You've heard of luzurus x ch 420.

But have you heard of hisoka x tserri x luzurus x 420 blaze it!? (With a dash of lucilfer coming to crash the party down the line 🥳).

Luzurus, hisoka's benefactor, calls him over for a blunt, and tserri, witnessing this, asks them to pass it to the left hand side. Luzurus is like ya man, it okay, but if you want, let's go down to tier 2, me got a whole bunch more where that came from down in tier 2.

56

u/Fish0739 2d ago

Tserriednich’s ability is much more overpowered than we initially thought. The real one can’t affect other people, but the fake one can make them believe they are affected, meaning they feel pain until the ability stops

Hisoka&Tserriednich vs Bonolenov is coming next week

20

u/Turbo2x 2d ago

The method to beat him is very similar to how you have to fight Sato from Ajin. If he's in a given area every soldier has to agree to commit friendly fire and annihilate the entire area, even if it means killing their friends. He's kind of using the bonds of the royal guard against themselves in this way. They're too bound to procedure so tactics like taking hostages or using shields are very effective and buy him time to activate the ability.

12

u/HotZilchy 2d ago

speaking of which, this fight reminded me a lot of the fight between Sato and the JSDF in the final arc, particularly in this panel

5

u/19observer86 2d ago

13

u/Global-Surround3262 2d ago

Why would hisoka team up with tserriednich? His last appearance is him saying he doesn’t like group fights and he doesn’t know tserriednich but would probably pivot from bono to him since he has a more interesting ability that isn’t hard countered by bungee gum

8

u/Woswald 2d ago

Similar to how Hisoka treated Gon in the hunter exam, he's attracted to potential and may develop Tserri's nen further so he can have more fun later.

6

u/Global-Surround3262 2d ago

But he’s changed since then now he doesn’t care and will kill on sight. Also him developing tserriednich doesn’t mean partake in a 2v2 with him especially with chrollo.

8

u/Woswald 2d ago

Depends on if Hisoka wants to juggle both challenges at once. We've never seen any human as exceptional as Tserri so I'm willing to bet that would interest him enough.

I didn't mean to say there'll be a 2v2, that would probably take too much of the fun out of it for him. Maybe for weaker opponents he's unconcerned with.

u/Choclon 2d ago

The thought just occurred to me while rereading the chapter, but the illusion should theoretically be able to use Nen. Right now we only see it shooting, but the ability itself only ends when the real Tserriednich drops Zetsu or leaves its range. That could mean the illusion is free to use Ken and fight like a normal Nen user.

Against an opponent who can simply tank bullets with Nen, the illusion would be pretty useless offensively if it couldn’t use Nen itself. I think the reason we haven’t seen it do that yet is simply because Tserriednich is unwilling to drop Zetsu unless absolutely necessary. Since the illusion reflects what Tserriednich would have done, his decision to remain in Zetsu would carry over to the illusion as well. And considering how long it still takes him to reenter Zetsu afterward, it makes sense that he would avoid dropping it.

I think that’s probably how the ability will be used in combat once he fully develops it. His opponent would essentially have to fight an illusionary Nen powered Tserriednich, while the real Tserriednich repositions himself for a surprise attack or prepares to send another illusion on the offensive.

10

u/Ebrietas- 2d ago

Damage done by illusion Tserriednich is undone after it ends.

8

u/Viburnum_Opulus_99 2d ago

The fact it’s still perceived as real up until the moment it dissipates still makes it potent as a means of setting up an actual attack. But it’s true that someone with Netero-level reflexes could probably instinctually re-garud themselves the moment their body realizes it isn’t actually injured, so unless Tserri develops some kind of offensive ability, he’s going to hit a pretty solid wall eventually.

15

u/remz22 2d ago

The illusion doesn't affect anything, it's an illusion. The guys it "killed" weren't really dead, and everyone else ate it from friendly fire in the chaos.

8

u/RebelliousUpstart 2d ago

But they thought they died, fell to the floor, and didn't regain consciousness until Tserri ended it to remove the illusion. So the people shot by the illusion were still incapacitated. (Not to mention the potential psychological damage of i was dead). Even if not physically your brain registered.

Theoretically, the illusion could "use" nen as it is like an after image of what Tserri would do if he continued in those 10 seconds. But the nen would only be the appearance of it. With the peoppe able to see nen "experiencing it" until the illusion ends.

I don't think it is likely, but... feasibly, if the illusion is strong enough, people may percieve the nen attacks from the illusion actually injuring them while the illusion is activated.

This works with Togashi's emphasis on the mind, body, soul, and nen connections.

However, the people who can percieve nen, would be people trained in nen. So people not trained in nen would be immune to illusion's nen attacks. While those trained in nen would be less sceptible as they would realize the illusion isn't really using nen.

23

u/Trash28123 2d ago

It was a necessary cost but Tserri really gave up a lot this chapter.

Now there are witnesses to his ability's effects other than Theta, and also people have actually seen Tserri's disguise. A bunch of guards witnessing a corpse suddenly disappear and spreading rumours of illusions means Tserri's cover can't last long.

35

u/Automatic_Web3668 2d ago

Not one of them has seen through Tserri's disguise because everyone is under the belief Benjamin executed him.

Because Benjamin believes he executed him, they won't question it, and because of the will, they'll never open the casket. Therefore, just because his illusion disappeared, they won't be able to connect it to Tserri because that is such a leap and contradicts information they believe is true.

They think this guy is just a lone gunman who is after the king's life, which was Tserri's goal back in 418.

11

u/Viburnum_Opulus_99 2d ago

It’d be too much of a leap for the regular guards themselves, but not necessarily the experienced Nen users. Once news of this incident makes its way up to Ben, I wouldn’t be shocked if he’s paranoid enough to have the casket checked in spite of the will. Though the amount of time it’ll take for that info to actually reach Ben still gives Tserri a good amount of leeway, and we already know the time he’s gotten is enough for him to reach the casino.

u/TextureSurprised 2d ago

I'm a bit confused, is Tserriednich guessing that there's a spiral staircase connected to tier 2 from below the casino? I mean the tier 1 cruise seems to be floating on water, so a solid structure being connected doesn't really make sense, no?

(Also, why is he hoping it'd be less guarded when it's now probably the only way for the hitman to escape. Logically they'd be increased security there too..)

7

u/NieOrginalny 2d ago

The staircase in the Casino leads to the level with the bridge. I think he's hoping the bridges will be reconnected when Benji comes back to Tier 1, but I don't see why they would all be reconnected, and as a consequence I don't see how he can get off the cruise ship, unless Hisoka helps him for some reason. I suppose they can't keep the cruise ship locked off forever just to contain one unknown assailant, but he's also working off of the time limit before his fake death gets revealed.

7

u/NieOrginalny 2d ago

Another great action-filled chapter. I love the way Tserri blends the nen manipulation of his beast with actual traditional manipulation, betting on out-of-range soldiers to ignore him based on the behavior of manipulated soldiers, and even feeding one guy bogus information just to get away with a test of his limitations.

That said, even with how much of an enjoyable spectable this has been, I have a hard time seeing how he gets away from here. With the bridges disconnected, he has no way out of Tier 1, and I don't see them getting reconnected in a way he can take advantage of, unless he successfully fakes the death again. Although now that I think about it, it might be feasible, the surviving soldiers only know what outfit he was wearing, and if he puts it on a corpse, it might convince some, but the excuses are getting flimsy. He might just not get out of tier 1, given how Kurapika is still here and Chrollo presumably is trying or already got here, his story might as well come to the conclusion on the cruise ship.

12

u/Fentboy45 2d ago

Why tserr fit go kinda hard

7

u/tutubabarao 2d ago

Another weakness of the Laplace Devil is its ability to affect physical objects that are not in someone else’s possession. Before the ability wore off, the first door Tserri passed through closed and locked, and the lock made a noise that was heard by the guards even while the illusion was active.

A Nen user with prior knowledge of his ability can set up various traps (such as motion sensors, sound sensors, or C4-type Nen) in the environment to track Tserri’s location during the illusion and launch aoe attacks.

u/pilantratogashi 2d ago

The number of characters we've seen Tserriednich interact with is surprisingly small. In terms of meaningful interactions its basically just been Benjamin, Theta, Salkov, and the rest of his NPC guards

Now that Tserri is out and about we'll finally get to see this super eccentric character mingle with some other unique, eccentric characters. Obviously Hisoka is the most likely right now, but soon enough we might see him interact with his military academy friends (Bork/Otocin and the gang), Morena and the Heil-Ly, Chrollo and the other spiders, Melody, Halkenburg, KURAPIKA, etc. That makes me so damn hyped

u/nam3unoriginal 2d ago edited 2d ago

If I understood it correctly, the best way to deal with Tserriednich's Laplace Demon would be an omnidirectional attack like an explosion, the larger the range the better, I'd also imagine he would have trouble dodging an attack that's too fast since he's in zetsu, again if I'm not misunderstanding anything. But as he said: "Good luck figuring this out, buddy".

Also if he runs into Hisoka, he'll probably notice his use of zetsu and blast his ren, then we'll have a repeat of the heavens arena moment with Gon and Killua.

Edit: Also if he tries to shoot Hisoka in the head he'll be in for a rude awakening, though I suspect he'll be smarter than that and notice guns aren't going to be enough to kill Hisoka.

3

u/Hoozuki_Mangetsu 2d ago

Can someone explain how Tser is able to move and fight in the 10 second vision? And why did the guards "think" they were dead?

Last chapter, he couldn't even ask Salkov to get water during the Ephemeral Ten Seconds.

But here he is able to preview a whole fight and adjust his moves. Him being able to fight at all in the vision is surprising.

6

u/Hoozuki_Mangetsu 2d ago

That's because laplace devil has a limitation that can only be activated to see what happens after an action that tseriednich takes.

In chapter 418 tseriednich tried to activate laplace devil without taking any action and failed, then, he decided to use the action of asking for a bottle of water to act as the trigger for his ability, he asked for water and enabled him to use his ability.

In chapter 419 the trigger for his ability, the action he took was to shoot some of the guards, after that, his ability was enabled to use once again, and laplace devil showed him the preview of the fight of "what happen after he shoot the guards"

3

u/Mo-HD93 2d ago

The whole idea is that Tssereidnich can't create his own future through Laplace's Devil, he can only "set up" the events in a certain direction, activate the Ephemeral 10 Seconds, watch how things play out and adjust accordingly once he opens his eyes.

What he did in this chapter is basically the same. Going out directly and walking around would've ended in more than one way:

1- either get arrested. 2- get shot on sight due to Special Martial Law.

So, Tssereidnich had to set the events on a certain direction, which was cause this fire fight then figure out what to do. He knew that shooting the royal army soldiers will definitely cause a fire fight to break out so he shot and killed 4 of them for real then immediately activated his ability. He watched how the fight played out in order to figure out the best strategy to escape and in order to put the soldiers under the illusion of his ability.

The soldiers thought they were dead because whatever happens in the Ephemeral 10 Seconds ends up happening after Tssereidnich opens his eyes. When Theta shot and "killed" Tssereidnich in the vision she saw him dead, bleeding and foaming at the mouth. When Benjamin shot and smashed Tssereidnich's head in the vision, he ended up seeing that. It's not only limited to Tssereidnich, even things done to others in the vision can fool them. These soldiers were shot in the 10 seconds vision so when Tssereidnich opened his eyes, they thought they were shot for real.

I’m also betting that the range of motion on Tserri’s ability is tied to the range of his En
