Omg they made holey moleys AND the slayer helm a reality, and the first is entirely useless because devout boots are excluded AHAH its perfectly stupid.

Also the slayer hood thing is very confusing:

Once unlocked, you’d be able to combine your Slayer Skillcape hood with any Slayer helmet (including imbued variants) to create a hooded version of the Slayer helm.

The hooded version will use the base Slayer helmet appearance. Existing Slayer helmet recolours won’t be compatible with this combination.

Which is it? Any variant or just.. the base variant?

I read it as you can use any variant to create the hooded slayer helmet but it'll appear as though you utilised the standard slayer helmet.

I read it as coloured helms aren't compatible, because thats what they wrote. If it works like that its just a slayer helmet recolour which makes this confusing language unnecessary.

It quite literally says the opposite. I don't know how much more plainly they can say that any version can be combined but the appearance will just be the standard helmet.

It quite literally also says existing helmet recolours won't be compatible with this combination.

It's not saying they won't look like this it says they aren't compatible.

And if it works how you're saying it quite literally says it does, all of this extra writing is entirely pointless because then it's just a helmet recolour and works exactly like all of the other ones. Helmet recolours aren't permanent. You can revert them to a standard helmet immediately at any time and get the item for the combination back.

So "hooded slayer helm" is just a new helmet recolour essentially, and works exactly like all the previous ones.

Which is it? Any variant or just.. the base variant?

if im reading it correctly, you CAN USE any slayer helm recolor to make it, it just... wouldn't show anything but the normal hooded slayer helm color.

Which is like how all transmogs work, you just revert helm and combine with hood now. Feel its poorly worded regardless.

Edit: why is this being so heavily downvoted?

Every single slayer helmet recolour works from only the base slayer helmet. You can revert them all at any time and receive the item used to make the combination.

To code the hooded slayer helmet to accept ALL recolours is more effort from the Devs, as they then have to store what helmet it was to revert back to that.

No, the way it reads is that you can use any variant to create it, but the appearance will be the default one no matter what you use. Aka, there’s no “revert” step in between. Im assuming they did that so that if you put your KBD helm into the hood and then decide to revert the hooded version then you can get your KBD helm back.

This is unnecessary as a feature though. That would mean they have to code every single slayer helm to work for this, and store what helm you used to be able to revert it to that helm. When you can simply revert the helm for free and get the item returned to you. Just like every other slayer helmet recolour.

Unless they intend to finally fix the helmet to being an unlock that becomes a menu. But I doubt that would be shadow released.

Any slayer helmet can be used to make the hooded cosmetic, but the cosmetic itself will only show as the normal slayer helmet

existing slayer helmet recolours wont be compatible with this combination

This suggests you outright cannot do it. Which makes MOST of this language redundant. Its just a cosmetic variant, like ALL other slayer helmet cosmetic variants. You freely get the cosmetic item back at any time. So its just a base slayer helm (or imbued helm) and the hood. No more language needed.

but "Once unlocked, you’d be able to combine your Slayer Skillcape hood with any Slayer helmet (including imbued variants) to create a hooded version of the Slayer helm." Why would they say any slayer helmet and that it includes imbued variants? If they didnt mean all helms that would be redundant.

Yes... That's why I literally asked the original question. Because these two comments contradict themselves.

u/Elpasdo Jan 08 '26

I think it's pretty obvious - you can use any variant to make the hooded helm but it will not change the resulting appearance

-2

u/DivineInsanityReveng Jan 08 '26

Thats not really obvious, because you can freely revert any coloured helm into the base helm and the hood is essentially a "coloured helm" if its a unique design that cant be modified by other coloured helms.

Would also mean "any slayer helmet" is unnecessary. A slayer helmet is a singular item.

u/dean_ohs Jan 08 '26

Think they mean you can attach it to any helm but it will look like the base slayer helm

1

u/Katoroku Jan 08 '26

You can use any variant. It will look like a hooded base variant. You can disassemble it back to any variant.

1

u/Brandinoftw Jan 08 '26

It sounds like you can combine any, but it will just take the appearance of the normal slayer helm.

1

u/Nitr_xide Jan 08 '26

If it takes 1000 slayer points to unlock, the appearance of the helm should match the variant used

3

u/DivineInsanityReveng Jan 08 '26

Yeh hilarious its another 1k point sink LOL

0

u/AnotherInsaneName Jan 08 '26

I totally agree. This should just be a 99 unlock. Why do we need to make it cost another 1k points?

-4

u/penisandballz Jan 08 '26

I'll go further and say it just needs to be what the slayer helm looks like. The current one with its dumbass spikes looks like it was designed by somebody who was wearing an Affliction shirt and listening to Andrew WK at the time. It's quite possibly the ugliest common item in the game.

2

u/AnotherInsaneName Jan 08 '26

I feel like the base model makes sense. You basically just slammed a bunch of things together to make it a helmet.

It does look slightly edgy, but at this point I think it should stay.

-3

u/penisandballz Jan 08 '26

Hard disagree. The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, the second-best time is today. Shit's gotta go. There honestly needs to be a wide swath of sweeping changes that purge 2edgy4u aesthetics entirely.

4

u/pzoDe Jan 08 '26

purge 2edgy4u aesthetics

That's funny, cos I think the hooded slayer helm is a "2edgy4u aesthetic".

0

u/penisandballz Jan 08 '26

Not so, because you can see less of it. It just looks like Dr. Doom, really. The stupid goatee still needs fixed. Either way it's way worse with those WoW-ass spikes on the top, it looks like it goes with a Slayer Platebody that would have salad-bowl-sized shoulder pauldrons with giant spikes of their own.

2

u/AnotherInsaneName Jan 08 '26

To each their own. Needlessly changing old designs is not something this game is built around. Building on and improving newer versions is.

Needlessly changing old designs is not something this game is built around

Right, like how the game didn't turn elves into neopets fairies, or add a shitload of play-doh trees, or turn Varrock millennial grey? Bad taste gets put into this game all the time, and this should be corrected to fit old-school aesthetics. Whether it gets corrected almost immediately (like the fairy ring redesign) or takes years (Kourend reworks, Varrock guards) makes no difference.
