The main problem with drift net fishing is making the drift nets. Irons would do a fair bit of it if not for that I think

And it uses the net that took you 45 mins to grow the jute for in like 10 seconds lol

hey, you get like 34 per farming pot of yute, thats 17 nets. 4 hops pots, 68 nets. about 90 per hour even. and its chill, just watchtower tp, harvest and replant, then collect your sand from bert

Yeah drift net fishing is expensive. And hunter is far faster by not using drift net. Its just not really comparable

Drift net is the meta for fishing EHP. The hunter xp is essentially free since the fishing xp is close to what you'd get doing 2-tick swordfish/tuna.

Yes but it COST money rather than make it. Thats not nothing for most accounts

Yeah so trawling has to give a fair bit less than drift net fishing since it makes money, right? I am asking what xp/hr it could have in that range and still compel people to do it as a skilling method for 10s of hours. I would probably do a ton of trawling if it gave 60k/hr (plus 50k sailing/hr or whatever) but I'm an iron and need the food anyway. I think it would be kinda busted if it gave that much, actually. I also think the cost of drift net fishing is trivial and if I could buy the nets with GP I would have done it significantly more on my iron. I don't really think most players have the same patience for active skilling methods that I do since I never see anybody do them (e.g. volcanic mine is also dead), so I am wondering what most people are asking for when they say they want buffed xp/hr.

I think higher tier fish are fine. I would just touch up xp on lower tier fish which are worthless, like krill. You aren't making money on those.

Like I said to the other person, irons are a minority of players so you're implicitly arguing that irons are more likely to play the game actively. That may be true, but that would mean we're more likely to do something like trawling too. Irons are already likely to do trawling though since we can't buy the food from the GE. I think it's really easy to tip the scales for irons so that we'd want to do as much trawling as possible because it'd be the best way to progress our accounts in several ways. I'm mostly wondering what would tip the scales for mains, since Jagex seems to think buffed rates would tank the value of the fish. I'm not convinced because, like I said, people already aren't really doing drift net fishing.

I don’t even know that they’re a minority. Have we seen official numbers from jagex lately?

No but I think it's estimated to be somewhere between 20-30% still.
