I just saw the 1979 Academy Award-nominated unlicensed Janis Joplin biopic The Rose starring Bette Midler and this has to be what the Jackie Jormp-Jomp stuff is based on. I'd heard of The Rose before, but I'd never made the connection until I saw it just now. Did everyone know about this? Am I late to the game on this reference?

What's going on with funcooker?

One of the recurring elements that tickles me is how the writers make fun of the show and themselves. A favorite is in S5E12 when Kenneth tells Liz, "I couldn't put the memo in your mailbox, 'cause it's full of unread adoption materials." Liz pursuing adoption appeared repeatedly in the first 3 seasons of the show, but by the time of this episode, it hasn't been mentioned in a long time. So on level, the joke is "Liz is continuing to let work chaos interfere with her personal life." But on another level, the joke is the writers admitting that adoption used to be a major plot element a while back, but they forgot to feed it (oh no, Otis!).

I tried to load Funcooker this morning and got hit with a "This service has been suspended" notice. I love that website so much I want to take it behind a middle school and get it pregnant, so today my schveltz is NOT filled with schpoinkis. Can any of you nerds offer words of hope?

Mines going to have to be season 3, favorite episode is the highschool reunion. Absolutely classic.

Ignore the cage, Mickey Rourke requested it

NBC announces a massive 20th anniversary reunion for one of its most beloved shows. It's one night only in New York, never to be broadcast or streamed.

Liz tries desperately to get tickets, only to discover NBC has created increasingly exclusive tiers: VIP, VIP+, VIP++, and finally “Literally Cannot Buy This.”

Jack explains “If the public can enjoy it, it’s entertainment. If only the elite can enjoy it, it’s culture.”

Tracy gets 47 tickets, immediately loses 31 of them, and spends the rest of the episode trying to remember who he gave the others to.

Jenna, furious that she wasn’t invited, becomes convinced NBC has her name wrong and makes Kenneth prove that she is legally, professionally and spiritually Jenna Maroney.

Meanwhile, the writers organize a competing event across the street: a live musical reenactment of the entire show performed entirely by people who've never seen it.

The episode ends backstage at the reunion.

Liz: “So we’re recording this, right?”

Jack: “Of course not.”

Liz: “Then who gets to see it?”

Jack: “The people who were there.”

Liz: “Who are they?”

Jack: “Mostly ticket brokers.”
