Discussion Stop using razor blades - use plastic instead

Post image

Back in the day, paint scrapers and razor blades were the perfect go-to for removing stuck prints from the build plate.

These plastic razor blades work just as well (if not better because you can be more rough with them) and cost a whopping $5 on amazon.

These work much MUCH better than 3D printed scrapers too, and are significantly safer to use than paint scrapers (for both your body and your build plate).

Edit: I never thought the use of scrapers was such a divisive topic but here we are lmao. Some folks have rather strong opinions in the comments.

Not as far as we know, but it's probably not great either.

It is a Mattel plot to fill everyone with plastic so they produce barbies instead of children. The they sue for patent or copywrite enfringement or something. At least thats what i heard from the guy who has 3 teeth and lives in a sleeping bag on the coner by the 711.

I mean this is true but also not a valid reason to throw up our hands and disregard avoidable sources of microplastics. I mean both of the things you guys mentioned are completely avoidable too with cotton clothes and a metal water bottle. Or even just less polyester clothes and avoiding plastic water bottles when possible.

All this being said avoiding a plastic scraper in this hobby especially does seem negligible come to think of it lol.

You just have to reach the tipping point where your body becomes more plastic than human- that's the secret to immortality because plastic lasts forever.

They don't. And even if they do. That little plastic scraper will not make a difference. The fumes you are standing in will.

Try saying that to Purple Mattress with their microplastic powder they use as a release agent.
