Been playing about a year and a half, mostly self taught with some YouTube lessons mixed in. For the longest time my bellows work was the weak link in everything I played. I could nail the notes but the sound would swell and dip in weird places, especially on push to pull transitions where I'd get that little hiccup in volume.

What actually helped was slowing everything down to a ridiculous tempo and just focusing on keeping air pressure steady through the direction changes, not the notes themselves. I practiced scales for like two weeks doing nothing but watching my bellows angle and trying to anticipate the change before it happened instead of reacting to it.

Played through a couple of musette waltzes last night and for the first time it actually sounded like one continuous phrase instead of a bunch of stitched together fragments. Still nowhere near where I want to be but it's nice to feel a specific thing click after months of feeling stuck.

Anyone else find that isolating bellows technique away from fingering practice made a bigger difference than expected? Curious what drills people use for this specifically.

This seems like the right thread to ask this question.

I’d like to buy a new accordion for the following purposes: playing jazz and blues, and also having registers suitable for rock and punk.

Ideally, I’d like an acoustic instrument that I can amplify and then add pedals and effects to, so I can manipulate the sound and distort it to almost achieve the effect of an electric instrument (guitar, bass, etc.).

I know digital/MIDI accordions exist, but that’s not exactly what I’m looking for: I want to stick with an acoustic instrument but still be able to manipulate the sound.

Which brand/model is best suited for these genres? What amplification solution would you recommend? Has anyone already experimented with pedals or similar setups who could recommend some cool gear?

The bass buttons tend to get stuck as the rubber nubs have fallen below its designated area and the metal can rest above the bottom plate.

Does anyone know where i can find these rubber nubs or any ideas for a good substitute

I recently got a digital button accordion (digital, since my neighbors wouldn't appreciate me playing the accordion with poor sound isolation), so I'm able to adjust how much "air" flow through the bellows when I play. I've noticed that I'm struggling to find the sweet spot. Either I'm letting a lot of air through, which means I need to switch between pulling and pushing very often, or I'm letting so little air through that I end up pulling the bellows with the backside of my hand against the hand strap, which isn't all that comfortable.

How difficult should the bellows be to pull? Should I err on the easier side and just get used to having to switch between pulling and pushing more often (it is an accordion after all), or should I go for less air through and just getting used to not pulling the bellows as hard as I am?

Another thing that I just realized, is that I might be having the volume low so that I feel I need to "pull harder" to get enough sound. I'll be trying out different volumes in the next days to see if this has a noticeable effect. Still, I'd love to hear your thoughts!

I want to learn accordion from scratch. I currently play piano and guitar.

I was looking for a piano accordion because I already play piano, but then I read a post or two that got me thinking I'd be better off with a button. Here's my thinking:

Learning a new keyboard: if I buy a piano accordion, I know the right hand layout, so I don't need to learn that. However, accordion is a whole new muscle memory, and I can't look at the keyboard as I often do on piano. So perhaps I'm better off starting from scratch with no hang-ups or habits brought across to the new instrument.

Keys: I play with people a lot. I play in 'jam' sessions where a song is not always in the same key depending on who is leading. I am reasonably good at switching keys on other instruments, but one thing that got my attention instantly is that if I learn a piece on a button I only need to shift that and not relearn fingering in a new key as I do on piano or guitar. If that's the case, that's a HUGE positive for me. Especially because I may learn a song in the original key then perform it in another (for singing or making it easier on a variably skilled group). On the same topic, I don't want to be limited to a few keys. That's a total deal breaker for me (except if I can learn on a limited instrument and easily transition to an unlimited instrument). I understand that some button accordions are limited, and need to know how I tell they are not.

Availability: I don't want to buy a new instrument. Mainly because most things aren't built as good now, and also because I'm just not into buying new things when second hand are just as good. If there is good reason to buy new, please let me know.

Having said that, I'm in Australia, and have seen countless piano accordions for sale but few button ones that look like they aren't single key.

I want advice seeing I know little about accordions, and may have things wrong or holes in my understanding. Considering the above points (and feel free to add anything in leaving out), what would you do?

How do you work with octaves on the bass side of the accordion? I have a few bass notes (B) that go below the staff (I think they are called ledger notes) and then a few bass notes (B) that are sitting on the regular lines. Can I just assign one set of B's as the fundamental row, and the other set of B's as a major or minor, or is there a better way of doing it? I haven't even touched the later bars, but I would think if my idea is good, the same principle would apply.

I am wanting to get an accordion for folk music but not a Melodeon that can only play in a few keys. This accoridan would be what I would learn on

I want to get an C system accoridan with preferably a minimum of 72 bass (96 would be ideal). I have a bugit of around £800. I want to get a button accordian because I don't have a piano background and the button ones look like they would be better to play once I get used to it.

I have found Squeeze box marketplace but the cheepeest accoridan that is a C system is 1,200 brand new that has 60 bass (this is one they recommend for beginners but it's a bit too expensive for me right now). The other place is hobgoblin music, they had one that looked perfect for £600 (C system, 96 bass, second hand) but it sold before I had got enough money and now they have no C system accoridan on their website. (I found out about both of these at a folk festival)

Does anyone have any recommendations for where I could get an one for around £800 or have any recommendations for a different style of accordian I should try look for?

I bought this akkordeon today at the flea Market and i wanted to find a proper Tutorial for learning it.

I reversed Image searched it and i found one matching the picture, the one showing me was Made by "weltmeister" and had it written on it.

This one has Nothing, Not even a Name or marking.

Hello, as said in the title, my grandad sadly passed away this summer, he was a great singer and sang for almost 50 years, one of his wishes was to see me sing, he left me his Hohner Lucia IVP, I wanted to know if it is an accordion on which I can start as a beginner and if so, I need some tips.

Hi everyone, I’m not an accordion player but I’m asking for my Grandpa! He bought new reed for his 2004 gabanelli accordion because his recently went out of tune (like very noticeably out of tune). He’s insisting on cutting them to fit them to fit, but I think we should wait to call the company on Tuesday (they’re closed on Monday). I don’t want his money to go to waste, they were very expensive reeds. Just looking for some advice please and thank you.

Can anyone tell me a bit about this brand? I've been looking to upgrade my acoustic PA as currently have a hohner Arietta 1m that is quite old and too trebley for my liking (only 2 voices), although it's great for jamming and festivals as it's nice and light, I'm wanting a better quality box at some point that I can put microphones in and gig with.

I've seen a stephanelli 72 bass in lightly used condition for £350 which seems like a good deal, but equally I don't know if I should wait to invest a bit more in something higher quality. I can't find much info on the quality of this brand except they are marketed for beginners / intermediate players, and the reeds are made in Germany, would be great to hear people's opinions on these if possible as I will be driving 3hrs for it, which is fine if I get it but if I get there and find it is similar quality to say, a parrot accordion, that would be very disappointing!

In the area in Texas where I’m from, there is a big debate amongst Accordionist. Conjunto/Norteño/Tejano musicians often argue that it is not possible to play in all 12 keys on the diatonic. Obviously it is extremely hard, but possible with enough practice and learning.

So what’s the better trade off?
Spend more time learning?
Spend more money?
Carry multiple boxes?

Anyways, I had fun analyzing this one. If you don’t know Esteban Jordan’s music, he was an amazing musician. Considered the “Jimmy Hendrix” of accordion. Known as El Parche, he wore an eye patch and was illiterate. He played so many instruments, it’s impossible to keep count. He many times performed all of the instruments on his recordings. I aspire to acquire just a percentage of the skill he had.

Hey all, decided I wanted to try starting to learn the accordion. I have a bit of piano experience (got to the point where if you locked me in a cave for a week with sheet music I could come out playing a beatles song, barely)

In terms of genres I want to hit I'm mostly focused on folk (german, russian, polish, klezmer among others), along with various bits of current indie + video game music.

Not sure what I want to try to aim for here... Any advice?

I get a lot of questions about this accordion. It is the Roland FR18 diatonic accordion, which launched around 2011. It had a short run in Roland’s V-Accordion line before being discontinued around 2018. Because of its short run and limited appeal, it is probable that there were a very limited amount produced in those 7 years.

It is nearly impossible to find one for sale now.

Roland still maintains production of their chromatic V-accordions in both piano and button configurations.
