What’s a skill almost everyone thinks they’re good at until they meet someone who’s actually great at it?

I was friends with Hbox in college and we went to the student union once where they had a set up advertising the gaming club's tournament that week. Random passerbys would sit down and play a couple games vs him and it was like watching a lion play with their food. Multiple games of 0% damage taken and every stock was a rest kill

In college? That's wild. Personally, I saw Hungrybox at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen green bandannas in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the bandannas and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and rested me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bandanna and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by popping off really loudly.

In college we played A LOT of melee while smoking weed or drinking a few beers. We'd rotate between this and COD modern warfare (the 1st one). I was pretty alright, I played Gannondorf because it was funny. Our student union had a game day competition and there were a bunch of guys playing. So me and my buddy went to see where we'd be skill wise (we also go incredibly high for this because that's how we played) and all I remember is stomping a few dudes with Gannondorf and cackling and the 3 other guys looked at me at once and it was 3vs1. 2 of em were cucks and I trounced their asses. Last dude was jiggly puff and ended with 5 lives out of 6. He was elite, the rest were trash.

I’m not the best ever but I was easily top 200 or so in my prime (my protege, Krudo, is a top 10 player now though) - and it’s a wonderful party trick to whip out my smash skills. It usually devolves into drunken 3v1 matches while I smack around a bunch of guys who thought they were the best on their block growing up 😂

YESSSSSS! This is literally what happened and it's hilarious to see the anger on their silly faces. I was no where near that good, but bested some dorm boys before getting crushed so completely.

Dude I would totally be in the group with 3 dudes trying my damnedest to take you down a peg and failing. Those are the mythical stories you bring up once in a while:

"this one time this random drunk dude at the party thought he was hOt stuff on super smash, well guess what guys...HE WAS!"

I was once definitely that guy in the dorms too- the one who thought they were hot shit. Then this dude from Miami came and stomped the shit out of me with Ganon and I was like “ohhh I have a lot to learn.” Hbox was on campus a year later and I tried to play with him as much as I could, and another friend of mine was also learning at the time so that helped too. Such great memories

Lol that's awesome...you said all you need to say  that's like getting beat by Yoshi (and I hate it when that happens). Ganon has never been in talks to top tier players, but I loved his air down+A. Felt so good to stomp people.

Sad part is I couldn't play captain falcon well. The timing was all off for me, he was too quick.

Yah I don’t get falcon players, they are whack. But I play Luigi so idk ha!

And yeah, that dude just stomped me literally and figuratively, I felt I couldn’t do anything, he’d read all my rolls and STOMP into fair

Dude, Luigi is a monster! His little air chop...ugh...I hated that. My buddy loved Luigi and would wreck me. I got good at playing Mario because I thought his vape was so funny. Nothing's funnier that turning someone the other direction when their about to home run you or hitting samus' big blast back at her.

I was pretty alright, I played Gannondorf

These are mutually exclusive statements unless you were intentionally sandbagging, Ganondorf was hot trash in melee.

No he trash was for sure. I just got really good with him. I would always surprise people when we played. I am not the best at the traditional top tier players other than Marth and I just spammed his smash.

Its really his timing that works for me. Falcons moves are too fast for me to time well, Ganon is slow but not like bowser slow. Just the right mix for me to casually float in there and stomp someone to death.

Falcon is sort of a matter of thinking a few steps ahead. "This attack will pop them up so I can shorthop+knee" type stuff.

But yeah. I get it when you vibe with a character though. I'm pretty washed up at this point; in Ultimate I play Piranha Plant but he's bad competitively.

Oh man I hated that little knee air attack. My buddy was good with falcon and you could see that knee coming at you a mile away, but there's wasn't a whole lot you could do if you timed it right.

? Ganon is solidly middle of the pack. Far from hot trash.

You’ll see so many people who don’t play the game competitively come and chime in about how Kirby was busted. That character is hot trash in Melee. Busted in 64 for sure though.

Fairly certain Ganon is considered the absolute worst character in Brawl and Sm4sh though
