Survey/Poll Would a weekly/monthly events & discussion thread be of interest /use to this community?

I've seen them succeed on some location-based subreddits and flop on others. The mods told me they were tired & to ask the community.

Pros: better organization, less Nextdoor-y vibe

Cons: requires effort, harder to search than individual posts

Recommendations Pasta Emergency

My daughter requested ravioli for her back-to-school dinner and I made enough dough and filling to make probably close to 50 individual raviolis, planning to freeze some for later consumption.

The emergency? The roller attachment for my KitchenAid fell apart after almost 10 faithful years, and the idea of trying to hand roll dough for that long is making my wrist shriek in fear already.

I am trying to find a cheap manual pasta roller to just get through tonight. I already checked Walmart, Target, and Fred Meyer (both Lakeway and Bakerview), and no dice. I'm about to walk over to the thrift store in hopes I get lucky, but I'm not holding my breath. What other stores should I check out/call? I currently don't have a car but can probably get a ride later if need be - I just am blanking on what other stores might carry pasta rollers under $40

HELP!

Update: Pasta Crisis averted! Community member dropped one off for me to borrow - thanks a ton, kind stranger! And thanks to the folks who offered suggestions (it will ALWAYS be Cash n Carry - IYKYK) and their own appliances. I love this community!

Boosting a Business (1st/15th of the month) Attention woodworkers and crafters, kitchen connoisseurs and sustainably minded alike

Hi there,

I am a novice woodworker and when I was attempting to finish some projects I found that most things available were either toxic, expensive or both.

So I decided to make my own. What I created is PNW paste- nothing revolutionary but a blend of local beeswax from my neighbor and pure linseed oil. The result is a 100% natural, pet and child safe wood finish that can be used to finish wood projects, breathe life into old leather boots or keep some garden snips running smooth. I really do use it on everything. My dad used it to fix a squeaky window.
I believe it’s a good product but I’m a little stuck on how to get my name out there.

I’ve dropped off some tins to local businesses like Windsor and some local crafters but haven’t got a lot of traction. Nor has Etsy been fruitful. I’ve received some good feedback from coworkers but I’m looking to open my market!

I also make a kitchen edition with only mineral oil and beeswax.

If any hamsters would like to sample the product I’d be happy to deliver! Or if I get a lot of interest I can pop up at a brewery with some supply!

If this post gets lost, I am also on FB Market place under the same name.

Mini pop up tomorrow at New Grounds coffee at 5pm! Corner of Smith and Everson Goshen.

I’m also working on an instagram with the same name
@PNWPaste
I’d appreciate a follow!

Traffic Collision I-5 NB South of Bellingham

I was in the last vehicle to make it through before the collision happened. All I saw was the dog wandering in the right lane, folks slamming on their brakes, and then car parts flying in the rear view mirror. Is everyone ok? Did the dog make it?

Boosting a Business (1st/15th of the month) Why climb Mt. Baker with American Alpine Institute?

Thumbnail

Mt. Baker is one of the best places in the Cascades to learn real glacier and alpine climbing skills. You get beautiful terrain, serious but manageable objectives, and experienced guides who focus on teaching—not just getting you to the summit.

At American Alpine Institute, our guides help you understand the why behind what you're doing: glacier travel, crevasse rescue, crampon technique, rope systems, route finding, and mountain decision-making. Whether you're working toward bigger objectives like Denali or simply want to experience your first glaciated peak, Baker is an outstanding classroom.

And you're not just hiring a guide. You're learning from a company with decades of experience teaching people how to move safely and confidently in the mountains.

If Mt. Baker is on your list, climb it with people who believe the summit is only part of the experience.

Rant! Another tale of scummy property owners

Story time & also asking for advice.

My sister and I just moved into a new apartment and upon receiving our keys last week and entering, saw a tonnnn of giant stains all over the carpets. They look like pet urine / maybe rust stains. The carpet in the living room is also completely detached from the floor and can be lifted up. Big tripping hazard.

We reached out to the property management company who said they would get in touch with the owner of the condo to see if he’d have them come out and clean the carpets again, and also re-attach where it was lifting. We clarified and said at this point if you’re having someone come clean them AGAIN, it clearly didn’t work the first time and it might be better to just replace the carpets. They said no no no we have a stain removal process they are going to do and we are hopeful it will resolve the staining. When we went back after they cleaned , nothing was different AND the cleaners didn’t lock our front door 😭

We reached back out, said we were very disappointed that the unit was clearly not properly cleaned and that the carpets were still covered in stains. We asked if he would be willing to give us even a small reduction on rent since it was advertised without these stains. And yes, before you come at me and say why didn’t you look at the place before signing the lease. I did, but someone was still living there so I couldn’t see all the stains at that time and the ones that I did see, the property management company said would be cleaned. I also have all the photos of the unit advertised without stains and sent them to the property management just to show how bad it is compared to what was shown.

From the time we got the keys to moving in was about 5 days so we told them if you want to take the carpets out you can, we have none of our things in there yet. But they didn’t. Even now that our furniture is in we’d make it work if it meant we got new carpets… Now, the owner has replied and said “you can move out if you’re unhappy with the condition of the unit and I won’t penalize you for breaking your lease” that’s his solution. After we JUST moved our stuff in.

I’d love to hear from anyone who might know what laws are in place to protect us, what can we do about this because we don’t want to leave we JUST moved in. It’s a great space and as you know really hard to come by a place that is affordable and nice in Bellingham.. We literally just wanted them to replace the gross carpets or give us some rent off because we feel those are the two fair solutions, but he doesn’t seem to want to budge and would rather he find someone who won’t complain lol.

Pets Bengal Cat - No Collar - On Railroad Trail near Evening Star Lane at ~10:30AM

Noticed, stopped, and lightly bothered a beautiful and young-ish looking Bengal while on the trail today. They DID NOT like me pulling out my cell phone to try and take a picture and trotted off into the trees.

I briefly stopped on my way back about an hour later and didn't see them.

Posting just in-case someone is missing this kitty.

Discussion Concerned about this deer around Roosevelt neighborhood, is it time to get animal control involved?

Post image
143 Upvotes

I'm positive I've seen her posted on here before but she's looking more emaciated than she was earlier this year. I'm not sure if it's worth contacting animal control because she's not showing any signs of disease or rabies, just hobbling along and dragging her busted leg. She's not a danger to the community or anything in that way, but I do worry she may be struck by a vehicle and cause an accident because she can't move as quickly as others. I couldn't bring myself to contact animal control when I saw her but I'd like to discuss if we should just leave her alone and let nature take its course or if euthanasia is the humane thing to do. You can tell I'm a bit torn on this.

Edit: Called the wildlife rescue as well as the state department of fish and wildlife and all I got was "if she's still walking then we can't intervene" so all we can do is monitor her for further signs of disease or if she can't get back up. It sucks but resources are limited and it's usually safer to just let nature do its thing, as sad as it is sometimes.
