Does anyone know where I can print for free on campus? I went to the library i noticed to print out the reading for my humanities class costs like $5, i like having physical reading to annotate but this wouldnt be very sustainable at 0.1 cent a page especially when each class assigns like 40 pages of reading lol

I recently was allowed park in the charles river parking lot, which is right next to the train station.

The location is a little far from campus but obviously can do much about that, but my question is for those who currently park there or have in the past, is it relatively safe to walk to and from there from campus? And how is it during the winter? Any info would be appreciated ty

Hi, I’m considering purchasing an e-scooter to get around campus easier (I’ll be living in Charles River next semester). I got told that e-scooters should be treated the same as bikes, and should be parked at designated bike racks. Honestly, I don’t remember seeing many bike racks on campus…

Has anyone had a bike or an e-scooter on campus? Where did you park them? And even if you don’t have a bike, have you seen bike racks anywhere near the IBS or Heller or in any other places on campus?

I just realized that I’m required to choose the Full Access Meal Plan because I’m living in Rosie, which is a traditional housing. I know from last year that I will barely eat at the Brandeis dining halls very often. I’m wondering if there’s any chance of getting them to let me switch to a cheaper option, like the 80-block meal plan, by making a case for it? Has anyone been able to get an exception or accommodation like this before? I really dont wanna spend 4000 bucks on grass💀

Fall semester starts soon and I’m worried. I know it’s irrational but I’ve seen so many stories of people transferring and talk of the social scene and I’m getting nervous.
So I was wondering if anyone has some pros that aren’t mentioned a lot online idk

As an international student, I am not on FWS and therefore can't apply until October. I have been looking at some jobs on Workday just for fun, and really like some of them (especially the student photographer roles). How many people are on FWS and do these roles get filled up quickly? I just hope we will still have positions to apply to in October, or if people with FWS take all of the fun ones. I love photography so I would enjoy those jobs best, but really I am just worried if I can have a job at all.

It is especially important for us because working off-campus requires govt authorization and cuts down on our CPT/OPT, so literally just being on campus is best! I do want to get into a lab or something too, but I doubt a freshman can get in that fast.

Hey everyone! I’m an incoming international transfer student starting this Fall, and I’m looking to book my flight home for winter break.
I see on the academic calendar that the final exam period runs from December 8th to December 16th. Right now, flight prices drop significantly if I leave a couple of days earlier—leaving on Dec 15 vs Dec 16 saves over $200, and leaving on Dec 13 vs Dec 16 saves more than $400.

For current students or past transfers:
- How strictly does the exam schedule usually span the entire final week?
- Is it common for students to finish up early and head home around Dec 13–15, or is there a real risk of having a final scheduled on the very last day (Dec 16)?
- How early in the semester do professors usually publish exact exam dates, and do they ever allow flexibility/rescheduling if you have flight conflicts?
I'd really appreciate any insights before locking in a ticket. Thanks!

I was recently approached by one because they are recruiting. I know these organizations are not recognized by Brandeis and I have only ever heard bad stories about Greek life. I am an international student so my view is incredibly skewed, but all I know is that they can be like cults and they often host parties involving drugs and alcohol. However, these issues (alongside hazing) are probably more popular at larger institutions, so how is it at Brandeis? Considering they are not a party school.

Can someone go into more detail about the vibes of each sorority? Looking at posts from recent years, Delta Phi Epsilon seems to be the best one in terms of community and vibes. Everything else seems questionable.

Also, what about costs/prices? I know they are notorious for being expensive elsewhere.

It is unlikely I will say yes to them anyways, but since they are in my messages, I might as well ask around and see!

Hello there, Desians!

I am extremely interested in this school and have toured it twice. This school genuinely is just my special place. It brings me joy and makes me feel at home. I am completely committed to getting here and it is my first choice. I have decided to really challenge myself this school year by taking 4 AP classes, one of which is AP Seminar (part of the AP capstone program), and a couple other harder classes. I also want to start a Yiddish club where I use comedy and language to teach people about Yiddish

Despite the fun stuff, my question arises from the issues that I have with religious situations. For my elementary years I was homeschooled by my mother (my mom was adopted by a loving Jewish family and was raised as Jewish, albeit with a poor Jewish education) secularly with an emphasis on science and higher level academics, and when I was in middle school I began to explore my Jewish side deeply.

By high school I got involved with Kiruv groups and became Ultra Orthodox. But when I was 9, my mom became a Christian (she doesn’t go by Christian, but watches online church services and says she is “Jewish and believes in Jesus”) and also made me engage with her religion through the ladder of my elementary years and even when I identified with Orthodox Judaism. This is mostly due to her marrying a non-Jew.

Now, I later deconstructed from Orthodox Judaism due to her confusing stance of religions and am basically now agnostic. Orthodoxy also didn’t recognize me as Jewish (found out a little after I left the Orthodox world) I’m so fatigued by the constant religious conflict and questions. My mother has been a formative and kind part of my identity, but she for some reason harps on me to do Jewish stuff while also doing Christian stuff (praying to Jesus with her and online Church).

Now I am 100% aware that this appears odd. Christianity is not compatible with anything Jewish, and also her behavior is (I’ve tried to tell her) reminiscent of “Messinaics” who are Jews or Christians who dress up as Jews or retain Jewish practices when becoming or practicing as Christians for superstitious reasons or trying to convert others to this.

I am just very concerned that Brandeis would mistake this as being disingenuous. Or the fact that I will be applying and listing Yiddish or languages that I speak and I don’t know if I should disclose the unusual interfaith family so they don’t just assume I’m traditionally Jewish.

Also, I am concerned about this. My mom has been telling me to get recommendations from my old Orthodox Rabbi, and also a counselor at an orthodox camp/youth group I went to, and a Hasidic rabbi I know. They’d be happy to write the recommendations, as they really respect me and enjoyed my company, but I’m just concerned as my mother’s “multifaith,” household (which I’m not comfortable with), could potentially be mistaken as something bad.

Am I overreacting? Is it just late?

The ultra orthodox world made this kind of thing always extremely big in my eyes. Or that there were a ton of imposters all around trying to infiltrate our spaces

hi! im am incoming freshman this year and i want to know if its easy to make friends and how?? ive taken a gap year and i feel like im more socially awkward now and i have a hard time making a move to make friendships im pretty shy around people i dont know and i also have a RBF so people always assume im rude/dont want to talk but i want friends, i know my first mistake was getting a single room and not a roommate but i really just want my own space what should i do? i already joined one club (the equestrian club bc i ride) i feel like my interests are pretty common but idk yall i dont want to be a chud with no friends
