Question how safe do you feel as a brown student?

hi im an international student considering going ED to brown. My parents felt good about the program at first, however have grown a bit apprehensive considering the incident that occurred. Personally, as a brown student, how safe do you feel? how has security improved? Did the incident shock you greatly, considering the previous security measures? Or is it understandable to some level how this happened? While i would love to attend, i understand my parents concern and wanted to know more at an honest, ground-level basis.

Brown market share program

Upvotes

I was wondering how exactly it works. Like you pay for weekly produce (veggies and fruits) weekly but then also have the option to get other stuff (meats, dairy, egg etc) bi weekly. If I’m understanding correctly, you pay for each item type you get, right? For those of you that have gotten it, would you say it’s better than going to grocery stores? Granted there’s probably less to chose from because the items for produce are seasonal. But is the price trade off (if any) make it worthwhile? Any thoughts and opinions welcome!

grad student housing

Is it typical to have a hard time with Brown's auxiliary housing? There have been a number of issues with ant infestations, broken appliances, and structural problems that have been sort of not thoroughly handled by maintenance. Is this the norm with these properties? Thank you.

Question Nervous about job market. What are new grad’s experiences?

Hi, I’m an incoming freshmen and am deciding between environmental engineering and APMA. I want to hear the experiences of any new grad’s on getting a job right now (regardless of major). Has it been especially difficult, do you regret not doing anything sooner, has it made you regret your decision of going to Brown, anything.

Pre-med?

Hi guys,

I am wondering how good Brown is as a school for pre-med? I'm aware that the grading is relatively light, but I am curious about the research and clinical access that the school offers.

Can any current/past pre-med students speak on their experience studying in STEM at Brown?

Tysm!

Question Chem 330 or 100

Hello, I am an incoming Freshman who is currently working through the current course offerings for my schedule.

I intend on being pre-med, so I figure that I should take chemistry sooner than later. However, I have not taken a chem class since sophomore year of high school (I got a 4 on AP Chem then). I am not sure how much chem I remember!

Can anyone who is more experienced in these matters recommend which of the 2 introductory chem classes would be more worthwhile. I understand that 330 would be a bigger challenge, but would this be too much for someone at my level?

Thanks for the help!

Pre-req Tool

I made a visualizer that displays all of the prerequisites for a goal course, because I always found it kinda overwhelming to chart courses in my head or even in a spreadsheet. With the semester starting up, I thought others might benefit from using it so I wanted to share it here—please let me know what you think!

Press the "Path to reach" icon on the top to see all courses you need to take to reach a course. The "Unlocks" view shows what courses are 'unlocked' when you take a given course.

Here is the link. Thanks!!

Question How Is My Schedule? (Freshman)

Post image
1 Upvotes

I'm a little worried about how close ENGL 0900 is to my NEUR Lab/evening class. The buildings are apparently only a 6 minute walk apart, but I'm wondering if that's too close. I'm unable to move the ENGL 0900 class and the only other time for the NEUR lab overlaps with a club I've been really excited about joining. Thoughts and advice would be greatly appreciated!

Current Brown student available for a campus walk on September 16?

Hi everyone,

My daughter Clara and I will be visiting Brown on September 16, before the official prospective-student tours begin, and we would love to meet a current student who could spend about an hour walking around campus with us and sharing what Brown is actually like from a student's perspective.

We are especially interested in hearing how students use the Open Curriculum, what opportunities have mattered most to you, and what student life feels like beyond the official tour.

Clara is particularly interested in entrepreneurship and nutrition/public health, so someone involved with the Nelson Center, entrepreneurship, public health, nutrition, or food-related work would be especially interesting to meet, although that is definitely not a requirement.

We are flexible on timing and happy to compensate you for your time. If you might be available, please send me a message. Recommendations for someone we should reach out to are also very welcome.

Thank you!

Question Possible to mount monitor arm/arms on/behind desk?

I'm a rising sophomore moving into Wayland, and I was wondering whether there is enough space at the rear of the desk for a C-clamp for a monitor arm. Like what is the space between the modesty panel and the rearmost of the desk. Even if you're not in Wayland, any insight would be appreciated. Thanks so much!

Attached a pic at the bottom to show what it looks like.

Question Is this a decent schedule for an aspiring electrical engineering concentrator?

Post image
4 Upvotes

I was deciding between CS0111 and CS0150, but I've been hesitant to choose CS0150 because I've heard it has a large time commitment and I'm worried that class paired with my other STEM courses would leave me with less time to socialize and be active in clubs. Any thoughts? Anything I should know about the other courses in my schedule?

thoughts on schedule? (aspiring pre-med)

Post image
12 Upvotes

i am currently interested in concentrating in public health and modern culture and media (with a focus on film) while being on a pre-med track. i honestly don’t know if this is a realistic goal, but i will mention that i fully plan on taking a gap year before med school. i have never been able to decide my own schedule for school before so i feel completely out of my element choosing. i am debating on whether i should enroll into the more “introductory” bio and chem classes however. i have never done AP classes, but i took community college courses for bio, however it was really basic. also, i took honors chem sophomore year and while i did really well, i hated it so didn’t absorb any information. it just feels like intro classes will greatly help prepare me.

one of the more prominent issues however is the thought of having 4 consecutive classes most days and having a couple night classes. i really cannot get around not having the 4 consecutive classes, even if i just focused on pre-med and public health. if anything i was considering taking hsp 310 next year. please give brutal advice, i am totally lost and open to advice
