Advice/Help Needed Resin to fill a dent in my tank

Post image
154 Upvotes

I had a minor accident with my bike and now I have a little dent in the tank. I know I could have professionals remove the dent but I had this little funny idea. I kinda wanna have a reminder I came up with the idea of using clear resin. I checked for leaks off which there are none. I'm just not sure if it will hold.

Any ideas or advice?

I was thinking of applying resin paint after a good sanding and then just taping it off and filling it with a decent blob of clear resin.

Advice/Help Needed Advice? (‘79 KZ EV)

Building this 1979 KZ400 into an electric café racer and I’m at the point where I want to clean up the riding position and rear end.

Foot pegs: I’m a taller rider and the current setup is pretty awkward. I could lower the pegs, but I’m worried about losing lean clearance. Would rearsets make more sense? Any KZ400-compatible options or simple ways to fabricate/mount them?

Seat: I like the flat bench seat and would prefer to keep it. Thinking about a removable café-style cowl/cover that could sit over the rear portion when I want the café look. Anyone done something similar?

Rear brake: The stock KZ400 used a drum, but I’m now running a rear wheel with a disc + caliper. I need a simple way to mount the caliper to the KZ400 frame/swingarm and figure out the pedal/master-cylinder setup. Any proven approaches or examples?

Also happy to hear general critiques of the proportions/style while I’m still in the fabrication stage.

Advice/Help Needed What model is this exactly? I’m looking to buy a base bike of this exact model. It’s a CB750, but I don’t know more than that, and most of the bikes I can find have the tank shape shown in the second picture.

Hello guys, I’m looking to swap from my oem wheels to 17in, am worried about different types of clearances, especially brake caliper, if you guys have any experience with this job on this gen of bike I’d love to hear it. Also if you know 17s work well, what’s the widest you can go, I’d like to run modern sportsbike/ supermoto tires. I’ve considered front end swapping to a modern sportsbike forks, but seems like a lot of money and work, would like to avoid it. Otherwise if you guys have any thoughts on my bike stuff you think I can do better I’d love to hear it🤙🏼

Advice/Help Needed Virago project

Post image

I have this 83 Virago XV750 project on the go. I'm not sure if I should try and get the seat/tank line straight. If I left the tank it just created a gap and still won't get the line of the subframe. Modifying the subframe will take a lot more work and I don't want to go any lower than it is. It's the seat/tank line an important aesthetic with a cafe?

Hello. I’ve always been interested in the cafe racer scene and finally going to be buying or building something. I came across this on marketplace and was wondering if anyone would share their opinion if they think it’s worth the $4000 asking price.

The Listing:

1981 Honda CB750 Cafe Conversion.

Very solid bike with lots of work done. I was told the engine may have been rebuilt in the past (but no documentation of that work).

I had the clutch rebuilt this summer by Motorcycle Performance in Madison.

New Dunlop 404 tires with appx. 500 miles on them

Delkevic exhaust

New front brake caliper/ rotor/ master cylinder

New front and rear brake pads, electronic ignition and tach with lithium battery w/ battery tender lead

New YSS shocks

Cognetomoto and K + N filters

Wheels recently trued/ tentioned /balanced

Leaks zero oil, runs strong and sounds excellent

Chain and Sprocket in good condition

Good paint with clear coat (numbers on tank are stickers and easily removable if desired)

I also have fenders and passenger pegs for it

Good bike

Advice/Help Needed GoldWing Cafè Racer

Hi guys, I'm trying to custom my GL1000 like the one in the video. I really like the mods on this video because are 100% reversibles, so I can keep the stock parts and the value of the stock motorcycle while rocking this awesome cafè racer.

Can you help me find handlebars that looks like the one in the video and maybe also the Seat?

My GL1000 already looks similar to the on of the video because Is a naked '76 K0.

Advice/Help Needed Need help diagnosing a problem.

Post image

Okay, let me start by saying I’m not a seasoned bike mechanic and only have basic knowledge.

I have a 1983 Kawasaki GPZ 550 (Canadian model, I think). It has pods instead of the stock airbox and a vacuum-operated petcock (a vacuum line connected to carburetor #2’s vacuum nipple, as per the manual).

I’ve been trying to get it running right, but I can’t seem to figure it out. Basically, I can start the bike when the choke is pulled all the way out and the fuel petcock is set to either ON or RES. However, as soon as I try to throttle, it either makes a huge sucking sound and stalls, or the revs shoot up super high and hang. If I try to push the choke in (turn it off), the bike dies immediately.

My dad suggested pulling off the gas tank, emptying the carbs, and pouring a 50/50 mixture of gas and seafoam into the main fuel line and letting it sit for 48 hours. I’ve since reassembled everything, and the problem persists.

Any ideas about what the issue might be or any steps I should take to figure it out? I’d really appreciate any help, as I’m genuinely stuck.

Advice/Help Needed Cross bar delete?

Post image

I see a lot of builds remove this crossbar (red). I’m reading that it helps keep the frame from twisting? Since I see so many builds without it, am I safe in removing it? What if I reweld a flat bar towards the end (highlighted in green).

Advice/Help Needed New owner needs help identifying parts

Hey guys, I just picked up a Yamaha XS 650 yesterday. Long story short I absolutely love it. I got it for a song, so there are some things that need work. I’m getting a new starter solenoid. I’m getting new bars. These fork seals are leaking, but I don’t know what forks these are. I am thinking I might just get new forks and rear shocks. It would be cool to have matching front and rear in a bit darker color. Are bars standard diameter? Thanks for the help!

Advice/Help Needed '78 cx500 need help

edit: everything is this like aftermarket cdi box, solenoid, control module, etc. made by this i think youtuber named brickhouse builds along with a part from a guy named Rae-san based out of australia. this whole cdi box and running to not running thing is a whole mind bog, its a cool concept i cant really seem to understand for whatever reason. has anyone eles had any problems with them being finicky??? please help.

hello, i recently got a bike from a guy for a hefty price, it ran great until the starter button didn't work. a-little tinkering and now i have no spark. the guy left this such a mess and from what i read they're supposed to be easy. i was hoping you could help me with my no spark issue. i still had spark when the starter button didn't work. it seems the connector to the regulator is burnt out, i dont believe that would cause no spark though. my spark control module has no power and that obviously would explain the no spark issue but when i trace it back nothing seems to be wrong. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Im thinking about buying the Felsberg XC but i dont know if i should? The dealer gives a 5-month guarantee which is odd and the price is around 99.000₺/1.770€. And I've heard that the company (Brixton not the seller) has gone bankrupt. It is going to be my first motorcycle and I am a bit short around 165cm/5'4.

Advice/Help Needed Underseat exhaust with 1979 cb640?

Hey y'all, I am picking up a cb650 this sunday, and while I first want to finish it up so I can ride with it, I am already brainstorming a bit about possible directions for future builds. I find underseat exhausts quite cool if done right

However, underseat exhausts with a twin suspension system is seemingly non-existent. The only real picture (first pic) I could find is on a random website not linking the build.

The question is this: What ways of routing an exhaust pipe would I be able to use such that I can keep the twin suspension system?

If anyone has experience with this I would love to hear it!

Advice/Help Needed How much would you pay for this?

I have a 1975 Honda CB400F that’s had a lot of work done to it. (Not by me). The front and rear end are off of a 2016 CB300 which includes the odometer. The bike has roughly 10k miles on it. I’ve

re-synced the carbs & added a few bits and pieces to make it run perfect. All the electronics work perfectly and starts on the first kick/electric start.

I feel like I over paid initially and put more money into than I should’ve into it. Just want to price accordingly when I decide to sell.

(The blinker in the last pic was crooked from loading it on my truck but has since been fixed)

Advice/Help Needed New to me 82 Suzuki GS650G, looking for advice, tips, etc.

So I got this bike in a trade and I've never had my own before. I'm looking to turn it into a cafe racer. Previous owner said he drove it into his garage about 4 years ago and it sat ever since. The key he had for it doesn't work so I haven't gotten it running yet, but it seems like it's in decent shape. I've drained the oil (waiting on a new filter) and I've got some other parts ordered. Any advice or anything would be appreciated for this newb.

Advice/Help Needed New and looking for advice on my first build - K100rs

(First two pics are inspiration - the others are the bikes listing) I’m looking at getting a k100 as a cafe project. The bike is in okay condition considering it was purchased from a police auction. I took a video but cant upload. It runs but it’s very inconsistent so it’ll need some engine work for sure but it is a project bike so as long as its not a deal breaking problem i’m alright with that.

I’m looking for advice on:

  1. The previous owner replaced the ignition lock with a switch
  2. Repairs
  3. What kind of forks I should swap with
  4. What stores to look at for parts
  5. What speedometer I should go with

And more. If anyone is open to talking with me and hopefully answering some questions or giving some advice i’m happy to listen!

The owner is selling it for $2700, has around 393km in it. He claims he was just using it for filming and he got another bike he wanted so it’s been sitting around.
