The original (6in1, 3rd picture, first ever project) had some flaws and mistakes i only notice while actively wearing it, specially since i'm wearing glasses. Plus i wanted to up the density. Pretty happy how it turned out after all. Next stop is learning leather working on top of it all. Last picture is of me reading up for "ballistic testing" with the original coif lol.

Help! Where to buy these kind of o rings

Post image
9 Upvotes

I found some earrings and I would like to find some O rings similar to what was used to make them. Essentially I’m looking for o rings that have welded on smaller interior rings like in this picture. I had someone tell me it’s ai, and I’m not sure if that’s true or not. I tried google image searching it, and it just shows the earrings on various websites but nothing I’ve tried searching up is giving me the name of this type of ring. If these do exist, I’m wanting to do a combination of using chains and animal teeth inside the ring. Any help/feed back on if these exist or if it’s ai would be appreciated

Help! First Scalemail and problems with the scales

I'm working on my first scale mail and was testing the large and medium scales from TheRingLord. But while weaving the scale mail i could feel the rough edges and burrs of the scales and after weaving the test piece, they are already scratched and rubbing through the anodized layer.

How do you prevent this? Manual deburring of several hundred scales sounds like a huge pain and tumbling would probably destroy the color layer too.

I made this for a wearable art show! It was so awesome!!! It’s all scalemail, and euro 4-1. The back has a dragon back and some half persian 4-1, but my models hair covered most of it 😆 it was so cool making something for an art show!

box chain 4 in 1

first full piece, done tiny piece years ago. Wanted to add colour to my life, and so much jewlery not wow to me, so why not make my own.

Dragon head picked up at a fair some months ago, and think the pink/light purple links go okay.

its a bit bulkier then in my head, but yay.

started on a half persian, which sits more flat so see if motivivation continues on to that, and seeing so much inspiration from this community

I made two strips a couple weeks ago and am now finally circling back to them, but I’m having trouble combining them. Do they look correct as they are? Should I just start from scratch????

Help! Was I wrong for my price?

So I have a business selling chainmail it's small but still something. I had someone recently ask me if I could make a chainmail top so I quoted them how much it would be for that being 200-250 for materials and labor.

Well then they asked if I could do a scalemail armor instead so I re quoted them for the piece at 500 because the materials are more expensive to do it and I asked for a deposit to at least cover for the expense of my materials used.

The person seemed shocked at the price change and was a bit reluctant even after I broke down the cost of materials and how much I needed of each to do the piece and that was why it would be so much.

So am I wrong for quoting them based off mostly my materials I thought everyone did that and I didnt think I was unreasonable when I see pieces like they are wanting for more than what I priced it at.

Hi!! I want to try making something similar to these pieces, but I'm wondering how the "corset" chain would act? Like, would it slide around, or how do you lock it in a nice place like this ? On pictures it looks like its just laced through some rings but like i struggle to see how it wouldnt like... Move... And sorta open up ? Anyone made something liek this and has advice / Knows how it "acts"

Help! Where do you source charms and piercings for your pieces?

Im inspired by some necklaces and bracelets I’ve seen on instagram that feature spikes that look like lancets used as piercings, but I’m not sure where i can buy things like that other than individually at a piercing shop. Im also interested in other kinds charms and dangly things people add to pieces. Where do y’all source these kinds of things?

Help! My first commission piece…

Someone wants me to make them a chainmail glove for cutting with a mandolin. Any advice on where to start? I figure start with very small rings for the base order, but any other advice for this project? Common pitfalls to avoid? Any specific hand measurements i should account for? I was thinking this would be a good chance to experiment with rubber rings for some stretch in the wrist. TIA!

Finished Product! Having fun with a new hobby

These certainly aren't anywhere near as daring or exciting as some of the creations I've seen on here but I tried making some jewellery and here's what I came up with :)

The first slide shows everything I've made so far with my stainless steel rings

Second slide is a better look at the box weave necklace

Third, fourth and fifth slide are practices with generic jump rings i already owned

I was hoping to be able to do more of the byzantine weave but I didn't realise AR was quite so important so the rings i ordered were the wrong size whoops (i ordered more in the meantime and im excited to create more stuff!!)

This coif is my first project and I'm stoked to have finished it! It's made from 14g galvanized steel wire, ~4 AR. It's made to fit over a padding arming cap.

(Normally the part under the chin is connected and tighter but I took some rings out so I could wear it more as a hoodie for ren faire)

Help! What weave is this?

Hi, can anyone help identify the weaves used in these bracelets? Is this something that can be done with typical chainmail methods or am I actually looking at a forged chain? It looks related to Persian weaves but I’m not sure.

Help! Equipping an Army!

Trying to figure out the best way to go about equipping an army with decent chain mail. My biggest issue right now is figuring out sizing. Ideally I want a one size fits all solution. Is there a standardized style of chainmail that would allow me to equip 95%+ of my forces with the same Hauberk/top? E.g something with straps and/or that folds over itself with a belt?

Ultimately I want to be able to give almost everyone the same piece and have sufficient adjustability for it to work well enough. I know this might mean many will be wearing more weight than absolutely necessary but so be it.

Still early in the process here and really just looking to learn more any and all feedback or advice is highly appreciated.

Help! Bright aluminum rings for a lamp shade - what to expect with tarnishing?

I’m making a lamp shade and need approximately 7,000 rings to complete this project (🙃). I wanted to do brass or AA but oh lord the price is killing me.

I’m now considering using bright aluminum, but I’ve never used it before (I usually stick to SS). If I’m making a piece like this that won’t be handled much, what can I expect as far as tarnish over time? I don’t mind the idea of having a tarnished metal (which is why I thought brass would be neat) but I just don’t know what to expect as far as look, speed of tarnishing, etc. This is a lamp I’ll be selling so I want to make sure I know what I’m getting into!

So - can anyone give me an idea of what to expect visually with bright aluminum rings used for this purpose? Even better if someone has a picture example!!!!

TIA!
