Surfboard LightningBolt sharped by Paulo Rabello

Hey r/surfboards,

Up for sale is a super clean, retro performance piece with serious surf heritage. This is an authentic vintage Lightning Bolt Surfboards custom-shaped by Brazilian surfing legend and master shaper, Paulo Rabello (signed along the stringer).

For those unfamiliar with Rabello, he was a pioneer of Brazilian surfing (former Brazilian and Paulista Champion) and one of the most respected shapers from the Golden Era. Having a Lightning Bolt shaped by Rabello is a rare piece of surf history, making this board as much a high-end collector’s display piece as it is a fun retro rider.

Retro & Aesthetic Highlights:

Classic 80s Era Vibe: Features a vibrant, asymmetrical retro deck resin spray with bright yellow, turquoise blue, and an exploding red lightning bolt/flame pattern extending from the iconic Bolt nose logo.

Original Glass-On Fins: A classic fixed 3-fin (thruster) setup featuring original translucent red glass-on fins in great condition with zero structural cracks.

The Shape: A retro performance shortboard outline. Measurements hand-written on the stringer read approx 6'2" x 18 3/4" x 2 1/4". Narrow, pointed performance nose with a classic pulled-in tail.

Logos & Signature: Signed "Paulo Rabello" right on the stringer, and features the large stylized blue "Lightning Bolt Surfboards" logo down the stringer on the deck and bottom.

Condition:

The board is in solid vintage condition. It carries a beautiful natural aged patina/creaming on the foam that gives it an authentic old-school character. The deck is surprisingly clean with minimal heel dents, and the bottom is slightly damaged but was repaired recently. Completely watertight and structurally sound.

(Note: Comes equipped with a vintage Gorilla Grip tail pad as pictured).

Location & Price:

Location: Torres Vedras, Portugal 🇵🇹

Price: Around 500€

Feel free to ask any questions or request specific close-up photos!

Aloha! ⚡️

Trying to identify an old skateboarding karen video

Thumbnail

I’m looking for an old YouTube clip where a
very short, androgynous-looking person with short black hair confronts/complains about skateboarders at a university or college.
They were carrying a briefcase, had a distinctive/odd voice, and were wearing trousers/pants pulled very high above the waist/belly button.

Anyone else remember this movie? As a skater in the 80s I watched this a million times

Just found this sub and thought I'd share my childhood board. I remember getting this at a yard sale some 40+ years ago. Not fancy and definitely not worth anything more than memories.

These were my first decks as a skater kid in the mid seventies, wish I had saved my wheels and trucks too. They need a better home than my garage. Anyone out there dig these?

Where Were You in ‘92?

I was a 10th grader going to the Action Sports Retailer Trade Expo (aka Skate Convention) when it was still held in San Diego.

My friends and I made up a fake skate shop called “Edge Skates” so we could get retailer/staff passes. The Z and tracker stickers were stuffed in the back of the badge holder. Wish the convention was still held in SD….is it still in Orlando?

Edit: Nevermind about Orlando…I was getting the east coast surf expo confused with ASR. Also, found out CARV is the new ASR and just started last year!

80s/90s Powell Peralta Ray Underhill Mini?

Just picked this up for a few bucks from a local thrift store. It’s a Powell Peralta mini Ray Overhill “Cross and Chain” deck with green Phoenix Gullwing trucks, Rat Bones 60mm wheels, and lots of character.

I’m pretty sure it’s legit and not a reissue just based on wear and components. Would appreciate any insight and if anyone has any lore on this particular set up or deck too! Seems like a cool piece of history.

I’ve had this around for a long time. It’s obviously not mint, but I guess I’m wondering what my options are here. I’ve been told not to try to restore it. But is this a nice enough example that anyone would be interested in adding to a collection? If so, how much would it be worth in the condition that it is in now?

My dad's skateboard, what exactly do I have here?

Hi, I'm completely new to this stuff. This is my dad's original Dog Town skateboard. I know he bought it brand new in 1979. I also have an original photo of the board in his childhood room when it was pristine! And his skate park membership card that expired in June 1980! Around the same time, his dad built him a half pipe in the backyard! I've got pics of that too, even him skating this board on the ramp... But I've got to do some digging. I'm not planning to sell this item, but I do like to know what I have. Any info anyone can give me is very much appreciated. This was one of my dad's prized possessions, and he passed away suddenly back in 2024. I remember him pointing out each part and what the brand was and why each thing was special etc. But I don't remember the details. For context, my dad was a pretty rich kid 😆 He couldn't just get a kmart skateboard and a skatepark membership alone... He got a super nice board, all nice parts, and his dad built him a big ass half pipe in their yard 😂 I just mean to say they probably spent some real money on this board and the components etc. I'm clueless. I appreciate any info, and I hope y'all enjoy the pictures!

My 78YO neighbor was friends with a young Monty Nolder and kept the OG '86 Schmitt Stix!

Back in 2021, I bought my first house in a nice old neighborhood near Charlotte, North Carolina. We bonded with this rad 78 year old lady next door through the kids but she noticed i am a full grown skateboarder and told me stories of how her son was a casual rider in Florida in the 70s and 80s. Patsy Wood and her son Roger were actually very close friends with a young Monty Nolder back in the day! She would pick him up and carpool them around to the skatepark, pools and street spots they could find! He would have been about 13 at the time. Then he ended up going pro, life went on and they always remained friends. She even kept all of the old Thrasher and local newspaper articles featuring him.

After seeing how blown i was away by the stories, she told me to wait while she goes to into the attic. And to my amazement, she comes down with an ORIGINAL 1986 Schmitt Stix Totem that was given to her son by Monty and signed TWICE, even to him personally. It hadn't seen the light of day in nearly 40 years! Its completely untouched from the last time it was ridden in the 80s and i about fell over when she let me hold it. She and Roger had no clue what they had and were shocked when i told them how important this board is. COOLEST neighbor of all time! ❤️

As the title said, I picked up an old Powel Peralta Cabalero skateboard, but I dont know what the wheels are that were on it. Anyone have any ideas?

I've just noticed one of the trucks is a Venture, but not sure what the other is. Didn't realise they were different until making this post!

Cheers

Grinding curbs

Strictly slappy

As I kid I learned how to grind sidewalk curbs with a metal cooping on it. Today I see skaters grinding on almost anything.

Does the wax really reduce the friction between concrete and steel trucks? Wax was unheard o when I was skating as a kid back in the 80’s.

Can anyone identify what this sticker was all about. I remember I bought it in a skateboard / Surface shop that was east of Presque Isle in the late 1980's?

What board is this?

Post image

my dad used to be a massive skateboarder and now collects them, his room is pretty much full of boards.

recently i got accepted into university and will be fortunate enough to have both my parents financially help me through it, and want to get them both something as a thank you.

i know what im getting my mother and had an idea of getting my dad a remake/reissue of the last skateboard he had before he stopped (image).

I’m having a real struggle finding the exact board. I know it’s a Caballero but that’s about as much as i can find. (i’ve not asked him as i wanted it to be a surprise).

Any help?!
