The inspiration for this concept came from the TV series Shōgun. The samurai and the overall aesthetic of Japan during that era made a great impression on me. I wanted to create a high-ranking, noble samurai who could exist and fight in some kind of alternate reality.

I designed the characters and made some concept sheets.

I'm not sure if it's been done before, but i have a hyper-specific visual concept stuck in my head that I want to open-source to the creative community. I can’t draw for shit, but the idea is a deep, poetic take on shared grief, loyalty, and resilience. I just want to put this out there into the void to see how different creators might bring this to life "just because".

🌲 The Core Concept

The base artwork is an ancient, massive tree with a thick trunk and a sprawling, intricate leaf crown. It looks like a timeless, noble piece of historic or dark fantasy art.

🕊️ The Interactive Ritual (Shared Grief)

The piece is designed to be a living, collaborative project between partners (or a family). It serves as a way to express emotions outside the box when words are hard. Whenever a loved one passes away or leaves their lives, the couple adds a single flying dove to the tree's crown (either painting it on, gluing a small clay/wooden charm, or digitally adding it). Over time, the tree fills up with their shared history, turning a space of grief into a shared sanctuary of memory.

👁️ The Optical Illusion (The Hidden Phrase)

Here is the mechanical challenge for the artists: encoded within the negative space of the leaves, the bark texture, or the specific flight patterns of the doves is a hidden Latin phrase. If you look closely at the details, you don't see it. But if you step back, squint your eyes, or look from the exact right angle, the patterns connect perfectly to spell out:

"Sic semper fidelis, per aspera ad astra"(Translation: "Thus always loyal, through hardships to the stars.")

🎨 The Goal

It is a visual pledge of absolute loyalty to stand by a partner through life's worst storms. I want to see this interpreted in any medium—digital painting, 3D sculpture, animation, shadow boxes, or canvas. Let’s put our heads together and create something meaningful because the world is a mess and we need something nice. How would you build this?

I am going to be leading a small team for a game and figured I could use AI to communicate some ideas I have in my head more effectively. In this case I am not looking for help to imagine something creatively, though there are other places in the project where I do, and a concept artist would be desired, like creature design.

So I have a design document. I figured it would be helpful and motivating to have an image of what the game could look like when finished. It's a mixed reality game so most of the image is the player's real-world living room seen through the headset. You can see an enemy the player is fighting, and the UI.

This is also an unpaid hobby project. So, in this case, am I really taking anything away from a potential concept artist? I don't prefer to remove the human element of the project in any way, but in cases like this, I don't even think there is someone out there who wants to do this particular kind of image generation, especially for free. So, specifically in places where I am just communicating idea to the rest of the team, and may need to iterate frequently, is there a place for AI here? Is there really some (likely beginner) artist that would even want to do create this kind of mock-up?
