So I've been here a week now & leave on Saturday.

We've snorkeled Tugboat Beach, seen turtles in Playa Grandi, been to Grote Knip & saw the pigs on the overcrowded Porto Marie beach.

We've wandered around Punda & Otrabanda in Willemstad.

Just finished a boat trip to the Blue Cave and another reef near Santa Marie. And on the way back we stopped off to see the Flamingos at Jan Kok

What am I missing? We thought about the Liquer Landhuis & maybe revisit the tugboat beach

I've been to Curaçao several times, but taking a taxi is something I've never done (I've heard it's expensive and unsafe). I've read a bit about taxi apps and wondered what your actual experience has been.

I know of three:

• Kumbai
• Click Curaçao
• 24-7 Taxi Curaçao

Has anyone used these? Do they work like Uber — live tracking, seeing what car/driver is coming before it arrives — and would you call them safe and affordable? Curious to hear real experiences before my next trip.

How much are the drinks on miss ann boat trip? Trying to see if the drink package is worth it!

My takeaways from this vacation

1. You absolutely NEED a car if you’re planning on visiting majority of the island

2. Driving there is scary. There is only 3 speed limits in the entire island 40km/h 60km/h and 80km/h. No matter what the speed limit was people are always going terribly fast. They will cut into oncoming traffic lanes to get around you, and roundabouts work somewhat different than Canada where i’m from.

3. Prices for food and drink are expensive. A shawarma platter and wrap costed me $52 CAD. and brands such as doritos or minute maid juice can cost upwards of $15 CAD at the supermarket. 2 Smoothies costed me $22 CAD and an ice coffee from a beach bar costed me $20 CAD

4. It is NOT a true tropical island environmental wise. It is dry, full of cactuses, and some fruit cannot be grown, causing fruit prices to be high. Do not be afraid if your weather app says rain all week. Mine said it was going to rain the entire time 50-70% and it did not rain once.

5. Wear a bouy if you are planning on free swimming. It’s extremely easy to snorkel and get far out in the ocean without realizing while you’re under the water.

6. If you are an animal lover, the pigeons and doves will be unsightly. they are greasy and majority are missing feet or toes. There is also a lot of stray dogs. Be prepared to feel sad

7. You do not need a fortune to go there. Flights, airbnb, car rental, and everything else costed me around $2,500 CAD

8. Majority of people there speak English, but it does help to learn a few words in their language

9. I went in August, so sun set was very early around 6:55. If you are wanting to make the most of your day, wake up early.

10. Majority of the island is not touristy, it is filled with local culture, small shops and homes. Curacao is very heavy on their art, you will see lots of paintings, murals, street art. Willemstad and resorts are the only places you will see majority tourists.

11. They only take guilders and USD. If you are from anywhere else, take some USD cash, and have a credit card. Some small shops will give you change back in guilders.

Overall, my time there was amazing. It was my first ever vacation and i enjoyed the slow pace, exploration kind of vibe the island gave. I would recommend this place to anyone who loves sightseeing and swimming.

Has anyone done the private beach dinner at Avila? Is it worthwhile? For 4 people its looking to be like $650. This seems very expensive for the area. I know we can probably do a special dinner somewhere else for way cheaper. But this is for a milestone birthday, so thought it could be fun to do something special like this as a surprise.

Should we just shell out for a dinner like that at Baoase instead? Or just go somewhere else?

Hi all! Thank you for all of the recommendations in the past. I’m finally traveling to Curaçao for my birthday and I only have my housing + car booked. I’m open to experiences but also want some sort of a plan! I live in a fast paced city and this trip is truly a way for me to relax and recharge. I love meeting new people (other solo travelers, locals, and just mingling). I have a budget of about $250-300 for activities, so I’m trying to figure out what’s worth it.

I really would love to go to a beach club multiple times a week, museums, and shop locally. I also want to learn about the culture through walking tours and cooking classes. beach clubs, museums, or shopping. Where do solo travelers typically go? Are there any chats I can join? A lot of the activities I’m finding are quite expensive.

We are thinking of staying at a resort which has this reef as their house reef. Videos I have seen online make it look mostly dead. I have been to a few other reefs in Curacao, but they seemed to have more live coral/live rock than what is shown in the videos I have seen so far

INTERNATIONAL CHAMPS!

We're going to Curacao in Feb and friends and family are staying at Mangrove but we want to explore the island as well so not sure what we should do. We are going to rent a car and plan on going around the island.

Thinking:
1) Stay at apartment near mangrove airbnb, and either get two day passes $250USD per day or stay at the mangrove for 2 days and cut airbnb short ($650USD per day for family of four).

2) Stay in house in Jan Thiel, and same as above, either day pass or 2 days stay at Mangrove.

We'll have two 16 year old boys with us. Would it be okay for them to walk around on their own near mangrove or Jan Thiel? I Read Jan Thiel is more residential, so wonder if that's safer for them to walk around?

ANy advice or better ideas?

My fiancé and I are planning our honeymoon for next March, and have finally narrowed it down to two options. Sandals Curaçao, or Curaçao Marriott Beach Resort. We like that both would be all-inclusive (we understand that would be an add-on at Marriott) and both provide beach and pool access. She likes the idea of Sandals more because it seems there are kore options on premises, and that it’s adult only. I agree with both of those, but also like that Marriott is closer to Willemstad, so it’d be much easier to explore the town if we wanted to (which I know I will). Also, the Marriott would be significantly cheaper. Has anyone been to both to compare, or at least to one and could share your experiences?

Me and my partner are going curaçao in October. We are wondering if a motorboat rental for a day is possible at all? Nothing fancy.

My fiancée and I will be in Curaçao for one week in late September/early October for our honeymoon.

We don’t want to overpack our schedule because the wedding planning process has been stressful, so relaxation is definitely the priority. At the same time, we know there is so much beauty to see and want to make the most of our week.

We already have jet skis, ATVs, and a spa day planned through the resort, plus 3 sunset deck dinners.
That leaves us with about 2 days and 2 nights where we’re looking for activities and dinners outside the resort.

If you could pick 1-2 activities and 1-2 restaurants for a honeymoon in Curaçao, what would you recommend? We’re open to anything - beaches, snorkeling, sightseeing, a boat trip, local food, etc.

I want to stay 5 nights. We need a relaxing vacation after travelling to places like Asia, NYC, etc. I think she would love to spend time relaxing, snorkelling, beach time vs. clubbing / partying.

I found some villas in Coral Estate that look beautiful, but I have a question... they are all so big like 5+ bedrooms. For 5 nights, some are still in my budget but it would just be me and her, feels a bit weird to have a place that big. Can anyone comment on that lol

I am also looking at their website to book, but found some options on VRBO as well. Any benefits of one or the other?

My wife, 2 daughters (ages 11 and 15) and myself are planning to visit your beautiful country this February. We have been to Mexico, Cuba and Bahamas previously and have only stayed at AI resorts(which we never left, with the exception of Bahamas). We want to experience all that Curacao has to offer. We want to learn about its culture and history as well as experience the food and the beauty of the island and beaches. We are having a really difficult time trying to decide between Airbnb, a luxury rental or even another AI resort. Any tips, personal recommendations or advise would be greatly appreciated.

Definitely want to spend some time in Willemstad. Plan on visiting a few different beaches. Hoping to visit the blue room and swim with turtles. Sampling lots of food trucks and restaurants.

Traveling from Ottawa Canada, with a budget of 10-14k. Renting a vehicle is a possibility, but think we'd prefer hiring a guide or taking a bus or taxi just to take it all in.
