God damn I’m so tired of the internet you people are exhausting as fuck with your bitching about every little thing. Embrace other people and cultures and move the fuck on about your life
Yeah good luck with that... Its amazing how the internet allows uncultured fucks to connect with anyone across the world and yet they are more closed minded than ever in their echo chamber.
Its weird to see what some internet people see as bizarre.
It's an arms race of smart people creating new exciting and inclusive spaces, followed by vitriolic pieces of shit arriving to ruin things for the founders. Throw in a dash of tolerance of intolerance paradox and baby you got yourself a reddit. The original userbase was accepting of the worst members of society in the name of inclusion and those shitty people spread across the platform like a virus.
Man accepting the worst in the name of inclusion really feels like such a millennial thing. Now don't get me wrong I see the merits in being open minded and accepting of differing opinions. But man we really did let some of the worst people ruin shit and spread unchecked.
The internet on mass seems to just do a few things for most users, it can connect you but unless you need to be reassured about your race bias, freedom of expression fears, and getting a steady stream of entitled idealists fear mongering. Pretty much manages most people too lazy to find away out of the Algorithm.
how to be both open to the horrors of the world and also strong enough to carry the weight of their implications has been a real quest on this platform. the narritive was lost a while ago. now its like 75% bots and children with pride issues. there still are some good comments and content, but its mostly reposts :(
I'm sure you'd feel the same if some christian was waiting at the school to put the sign of the cross on all the children entering.
Also, you're bitching about people bitching. gooble gobble
I went to public school in CT and I remember my teacher putting a cross on my forehead for Ash Wednesday, definitely didn’t ask for permission. I was just excited to have someone paint my face, I had no idea what it was at the time
Yes, but I don't see how private institutions are a good comparison. They aren't funded by the state; they don't have to follow all of the same rules.
I wouldn't care if every sect showed up at the start of the year and did their own blessings. Who doesn't want to be fully buffed going into the school year? I do care about double standards, though. I don't think we should be cherry picking which prayers are fine and which aren't. It's a slippery slope that the worse people in society want to drag you onto.
That literally happens at catholic schools you dunce, and nobody has an issue with it, because it's not harming anyone and the parents/kids don't care.
Why are you trying to force outrage and a culture war into this thread? You're precisely what's wrong with the whole internet.
I asked because I didn't want to assume. My mother and father in law were actually forced into Catholic day and residential schools respectively by the Canadian government.
If it was your parents who sent you to a Catholic school I would guess that they knew where they were sending you so it's on them. I guess you would have to ask them why they sent you there.
He's pretending someone foisting supernatural belief on non-practicing kids in a public school is the same as doing catholic things to catholic kids in a catholic school. He's either completely braindead, intellectually dishonest, or - more than likely - a combination of the two
Oh I see, you're specifically looking for an argument then, whch makes sense because usually people correcting those who's main point is "stop arguing about bs", are the ones who want to argue about bs.
i will admit the 1 single thing redditors are good at is the ability to find something to hate on in literally anything and everything humanly possible.
I bought an e-reader and joined the subreddit for it and people were bullying each other because of the charging port. Personal attacks and all that. Nothing is sacred anymore
Right? I open up the comments here and every single comment thread I've collapsed is just people bitching about all these comments that don't even seem to exist. It's literally the entire discussion.
What's good about exposing children to harmful smoke and second and third hand smoke? You can appreciate a culture and still dislike some things they do
Until your "culture" is the KKK and the Confederate flag.. maybe we should just value one another as human beings and still have the critical thinking skills to sift through what cultural norms are damaging and backwards.
So, if you're allergic or sensitive to scents. You're supposed to accept the excessive use of perfume that's common in the cultures of Italians, Greeks, Arabs, Indians and Persians? I don't get why they're still doing it when they live in Northern Europe. We got indoor plumbing, showers. It doesn't get that hot here.
What I mean is I’m not going to stop and indulge you everyday at the door in a manner like this. You know damn well if you had a coworker that did this at work everyday they would be fairly unpopular.
i'm a huge secular humanism fan, but i can get frustrated with magical thinking... and many cultures and peoples have many very silly views. some may have value(as i feel this is an example) but for the most part they can all just rot in history because of the horrific things they teach people.. and mostly just the lies.. you can live life without lies and i think this is a place that espouses that view.. so you can't really get too mad at former religious people (such as myself) that are dogging on religion.. some of us feel we have the right. we just feel stupid and want to make up for it. some may be from hate and ignorance.. but yea thats why i just don't tell people what to think anymore. they need to figure it out on their own. i will however argue with people on here i guess... but i really don't expect to change anybody's mind anymore.
sorry i don't really have respect for religion. they don't have respect for atheists of gay people. so why should I? I'm not going to try to stop them practicing their religion but they can shove it if they think they can tell me what to think or say. fuck religion. i'll say it again. you want to practice in private thats not my problem, but if you bring it into the public space i may say something. if you can't handle it you can keep your views to yourself. i'm tired of being quiet about it.
You don't have to respect religion. You just have to respect other people. I'm sure you seem like a silly ass to many people, and they just let you be you.
just a character that isn't afraid to think for themself. i just got out of being homeless and destitute. i honestly dont' think much of myself... i think you think too highly of people. you can hold them accountable. you can also hold yourself accountable. the truth does exist and even low iq fucks can attain it. its not that hard. you just have to be committed to not being an ignorant cunt.
congrates on thinking you get it.. when you clearly don't. its ok to have an opinion.. unless your opinion sucks. then you can shut up until you learn. what awareness where you referring to? the supposed truth that nothing matters and nobody should try to tell anybody anything? cause that's called nihilism. and if that's your point why ever bother talking to me?
Some cool things to remember are that not everything everyone does needs to make sense to us, and we don’t always need to share how we feel about everything all the time - especially when it’s negativity about something that has literally zero impact on us personally.
which is where secularism comes into play. however i can be both supportive of your right to practice(as i do, as that same right gives me the ability to exist as an atheist) and also be honest about how i feel. which is that kids should be told the truth. the entire truth. 75% of the population telling kids lies to make them feel better is a terrible practice. cruel in my opinion. kids deserve better.
religion is poison. if i had not been indoctrinated as a child my life would have been much easier. little girls growing up in Afghanistan are living in a horror show. its objective reality. you want to be tolerant and accepting thats great, but what is your stance on educating young girls? because if it is that you think they should be educated.. maybe you have a stance against relgion too.
