God damn I’m so tired of the internet you people are exhausting as fuck with your bitching about every little thing. Embrace other people and cultures and move the fuck on about your life

69

u/Howllat 4h ago

Yeah good luck with that... Its amazing how the internet allows uncultured fucks to connect with anyone across the world and yet they are more closed minded than ever in their echo chamber.

Its weird to see what some internet people see as bizarre.

15

u/richardawkings 4h ago

Maybe the internet should not be user friendly.

12

u/Surroundedonallsides 3h ago

The internet was better when it was just nerds

3

u/richardawkings 2h ago

The problem with nerds is that they just like to build cool shit and wow people. It was only a matter of time before that pure goodness was corrupted.

1

u/Zaximeows 3h ago

It's an arms race of smart people creating new exciting and inclusive spaces, followed by vitriolic pieces of shit arriving to ruin things for the founders. Throw in a dash of tolerance of intolerance paradox and baby you got yourself a reddit. The original userbase was accepting of the worst members of society in the name of inclusion and those shitty people spread across the platform like a virus.

1

u/texxmix 3h ago

Man accepting the worst in the name of inclusion really feels like such a millennial thing. Now don't get me wrong I see the merits in being open minded and accepting of differing opinions. But man we really did let some of the worst people ruin shit and spread unchecked.

The internet on mass seems to just do a few things for most users, it can connect you but unless you need to be reassured about your race bias, freedom of expression fears, and getting a steady stream of entitled idealists fear mongering. Pretty much manages most people too lazy to find away out of the Algorithm.

Brother, welcome to Reddit

12

u/grachi 4h ago

That’s everywhere. Facebook, TikTok, YouTube. It’s the internet , can’t escape it unless you just don’t participate

10

u/Lowly-Worm_ 4h ago

The manufactured outrage increases engagement. The barrage of atrocities increases derealization. An efficient model.

0

u/Beneficial_Wonder533 4h ago

how to be both open to the horrors of the world and also strong enough to carry the weight of their implications has been a real quest on this platform. the narritive was lost a while ago. now its like 75% bots and children with pride issues. there still are some good comments and content, but its mostly reposts :(

3

u/Auspex86 4h ago

A genuine Reddit experience!

4

u/Jive_Turkey__ 4h ago

I'm sure you'd feel the same if some christian was waiting at the school to put the sign of the cross on all the children entering.
Also, you're bitching about people bitching. gooble gobble

29

u/JadedLeafs 4h ago

You mean like they do in Christian and Catholic schools?

8

u/man_on_the_mooney 4h ago

I went to public school in CT and I remember my teacher putting a cross on my forehead for Ash Wednesday, definitely didn’t ask for permission. I was just excited to have someone paint my face, I had no idea what it was at the time

1

u/Myke190 1h ago

I think they just wanted to smudge soot on your face because without the ceremony, that's all it is.

Having grown up in a Catholic household, I was an annual recipient. I always thought the little phrase they say when applying it was metal af.

You are dust, and to dust you will return. 🤘

-4

u/Jive_Turkey__ 1h ago

You mean schools people specifically enrol their children in because they follow the same belief system? Those schools?

8

u/JadedLeafs 1h ago

Yeah, like an indigenous school on indigenous land like the one in the photo?

-5

u/Jive_Turkey__ 1h ago

Is it a public school?

-3

u/Myke190 1h ago

Yes, but I don't see how private institutions are a good comparison. They aren't funded by the state; they don't have to follow all of the same rules.

I wouldn't care if every sect showed up at the start of the year and did their own blessings. Who doesn't want to be fully buffed going into the school year? I do care about double standards, though. I don't think we should be cherry picking which prayers are fine and which aren't. It's a slippery slope that the worse people in society want to drag you onto.

1

u/ehs06702 24m ago

Direct that energy toward Christofacists, not endangered cultures practicing in their own communities.

0

u/Myke190 20m ago

Nah, all religions or no religions.

17

u/MatttheJ 4h ago

That literally happens at catholic schools you dunce, and nobody has an issue with it, because it's not harming anyone and the parents/kids don't care.

Why are you trying to force outrage and a culture war into this thread? You're precisely what's wrong with the whole internet.

6

u/LordButtworth 3h ago

It kinda comes with the whole Christianity thing. If parents had a problem I doubt they would pay to send their kids to a Catholic school.

1

u/chodeblower 1h ago

What about people like me who were forced to go to Catholic school despite being an atheist?

1

u/LordButtworth 1h ago

Who forced you?

2

u/chodeblower 48m ago

Parents?? Who else

1

u/LordButtworth 40m ago

I asked because I didn't want to assume. My mother and father in law were actually forced into Catholic day and residential schools respectively by the Canadian government.

If it was your parents who sent you to a Catholic school I would guess that they knew where they were sending you so it's on them. I guess you would have to ask them why they sent you there.

1

u/Ok-Releases 3h ago

Lets not act like if a video of catholic students recieving blessings while entering school wouldnt get shit on in most subs.

These comments are so disingenuous

3

u/MatttheJ 3h ago

So what if it would? That wouldn't be any better. Don't "what about" ism to justify someone trying to cause toxic bs arguments to feed engagement.

2

u/Ok-Releases 3h ago

Im moreso correcting your "and nobody has an issue with it" statement. Dont act stupid lmao

1

u/Jive_Turkey__ 1h ago

He's pretending someone foisting supernatural belief on non-practicing kids in a public school is the same as doing catholic things to catholic kids in a catholic school. He's either completely braindead, intellectually dishonest, or - more than likely - a combination of the two

-1

u/MatttheJ 3h ago

Oh I see, you're specifically looking for an argument then, whch makes sense because usually people correcting those who's main point is "stop arguing about bs", are the ones who want to argue about bs.

I'll be blocking you now, have a nice day.

-3

u/Ok_Tour_1525 3h ago

Nah I think it’s wrong for catholic schools to do that. It has zero benefit and is only contributing to the indoctrination of kids.

2

u/MatttheJ 3h ago

Brother, it's "catholic" school... The clue is in the name.

0

u/Wooden-Evidence-374 1h ago

Colonizing religion touching your children versus an indigenous person wafting some harmless smoke outdoors. Great comparison genius.

1

u/Jive_Turkey__ 1h ago

cOlOnIzInG.
lol get fucked
Go blow some cigarette or vape smoke in some kid's face and tell us how harmless it is.

-8

u/Troker61 4h ago

A Christian waiting at a private indigenous school to put the sign of the cross on kids is a totally different situation, though.

Do they not do that sort of thing all the time at Christian schools?

2

u/Dochorahan 3h ago

Pedantic redditors that can’t accept anything for what it is? Impossible.

2

u/mesofarty 3h ago

More about what is isn't for redditors. It's always "well akshually"

2

u/T1Earn 3h ago

i will admit the 1 single thing redditors are good at is the ability to find something to hate on in literally anything and everything humanly possible.

2

u/AimlessForNow 1h ago

I bought an e-reader and joined the subreddit for it and people were bullying each other because of the charging port. Personal attacks and all that. Nothing is sacred anymore

2

u/DadBodMedicNate 3h ago

If you seen what I have then you’d say “Hell no” too

2

u/Certain_Zucchini_472 2h ago

Here I am slowly working my way down to what are inevitably stupid, hateful comments, wish me luck

1

u/AimlessForNow 1h ago

It's both angering but fascinating to see what people say I can't stop

1

u/OptiGuy4u 4h ago

This sort of stuff makes me smile. It's harmless and anyone who would give them shit about it doesn't deserve peace or blessings ever.

1

u/Ozzie-Isaac 1h ago

well sure but lets not pretend reddit doesn't haven't certain b iases. One of them being if this was some priest or imam people would lose their shit.

1

u/Deaffin 1h ago

Right? I open up the comments here and every single comment thread I've collapsed is just people bitching about all these comments that don't even seem to exist. It's literally the entire discussion.

u/SunsetCarcass 4m ago

What's good about exposing children to harmful smoke and second and third hand smoke? You can appreciate a culture and still dislike some things they do

1

u/YertSauce 4h ago

First time?

1

u/ArtVandalayImp0rter 3h ago

I agree they're all fucking annoying. But embracing is asking way tooooo much from these murdering pedophile rapists.

1

u/LordButtworth 3h ago

Or don't and mind your own fuckin business.

-2

u/carterartist 4h ago

I’m only curious on why this is “interesting”.

-5

u/Journo_Jimbo 4h ago

I’m a little shocked, this group usually isn’t full of the bigotry bullshit some of the other groups have, but I guess idiocracy finds a way

0

u/antsh 3h ago

I can’t imagine any reason why a tribal school may have special exemptions in regards to how they manage themselves… not one…

3

u/Some_Car_6959 3h ago

Shame on the indigenous people for not conforming to the will of the empire!

0

u/wildbluebarie 2h ago

It's not just culture, it's religion

0

u/chodeblower 1h ago

Until your "culture" is the KKK and the Confederate flag.. maybe we should just value one another as human beings and still have the critical thinking skills to sift through what cultural norms are damaging and backwards.

-1

u/LarsDuder 2h ago

So, if you're allergic or sensitive to scents. You're supposed to accept the excessive use of perfume that's common in the cultures of Italians, Greeks, Arabs, Indians and Persians? I don't get why they're still doing it when they live in Northern Europe. We got indoor plumbing, showers. It doesn't get that hot here.

-6

u/1nsidiousOne 4h ago

Shocking seeing this comment in Reddit. Praise be

-13

u/Liqour_Mortis 4h ago

Maybe I don’t want your smokey culture in my face everyday.

6

u/YogurtclosetFirst899 4h ago

Was someone blowing smoke at you? Or are you just saying you don't want to ever see video of someone else doing it?

I mean, I wish I didn't have Christian culture in my face every day, but there it is.

-2

u/Liqour_Mortis 3h ago edited 31m ago

What I mean is I’m not going to stop and indulge you everyday at the door in a manner like this. You know damn well if you had a coworker that did this at work everyday they would be fairly unpopular.

7

u/penderies 4h ago

Grow up and realise not everything is about you.

1

u/walkTHEdotasaur 2h ago

So when you approach you kindly raise a hand or shake your head, and they back off and let you pass in peace. Damn that was hard.

-9

u/Swagg19 4h ago

lol I’m all with it but the you get the goons claiming “cultural appropriation”

-28

u/Beneficial_Wonder533 4h ago

i'm a huge secular humanism fan, but i can get frustrated with magical thinking... and many cultures and peoples have many very silly views. some may have value(as i feel this is an example) but for the most part they can all just rot in history because of the horrific things they teach people.. and mostly just the lies.. you can live life without lies and i think this is a place that espouses that view.. so you can't really get too mad at former religious people (such as myself) that are dogging on religion.. some of us feel we have the right. we just feel stupid and want to make up for it. some may be from hate and ignorance.. but yea thats why i just don't tell people what to think anymore. they need to figure it out on their own. i will however argue with people on here i guess... but i really don't expect to change anybody's mind anymore.

10

u/FearMeIAmLag1 4h ago

You can also have respect and just not say anything.

-11

u/Beneficial_Wonder533 4h ago

sorry i don't really have respect for religion. they don't have respect for atheists of gay people. so why should I? I'm not going to try to stop them practicing their religion but they can shove it if they think they can tell me what to think or say. fuck religion. i'll say it again. you want to practice in private thats not my problem, but if you bring it into the public space i may say something. if you can't handle it you can keep your views to yourself. i'm tired of being quiet about it.

4

u/BumpyNubbins 4h ago

You don't have to respect religion. You just have to respect other people. I'm sure you seem like a silly ass to many people, and they just let you be you.

5

u/MortgageThin1602 4h ago

Way to be a dumbass miser complaining about things that aren't your business

-2

u/Beneficial_Wonder533 4h ago

religion taking over politics and society isn't my problem? how about you wake the fuck up.

3

u/MortgageThin1602 3h ago

Oh we got Mr. Main Character over here

1

u/Beneficial_Wonder533 3h ago

just a character that isn't afraid to think for themself. i just got out of being homeless and destitute. i honestly dont' think much of myself... i think you think too highly of people. you can hold them accountable. you can also hold yourself accountable. the truth does exist and even low iq fucks can attain it. its not that hard. you just have to be committed to not being an ignorant cunt.

2

u/MortgageThin1602 3h ago

Okay you have a long way to gain self awareness clearly. Congrats on not being homeless now tho

1

u/Beneficial_Wonder533 3h ago

congrates on thinking you get it.. when you clearly don't. its ok to have an opinion.. unless your opinion sucks. then you can shut up until you learn. what awareness where you referring to? the supposed truth that nothing matters and nobody should try to tell anybody anything? cause that's called nihilism. and if that's your point why ever bother talking to me?

u/Troker61 4h ago

Some cool things to remember are that not everything everyone does needs to make sense to us, and we don’t always need to share how we feel about everything all the time - especially when it’s negativity about something that has literally zero impact on us personally.

2

u/Beneficial_Wonder533 4h ago

which is where secularism comes into play. however i can be both supportive of your right to practice(as i do, as that same right gives me the ability to exist as an atheist) and also be honest about how i feel. which is that kids should be told the truth. the entire truth. 75% of the population telling kids lies to make them feel better is a terrible practice. cruel in my opinion. kids deserve better.

1

u/tedfergeson 4h ago

Because it's everybody else's mind that needs changing, huh?

You have the right to dog another's religion or culture? Mmmmmkay.

-1

u/Beneficial_Wonder533 4h ago

religion is poison. if i had not been indoctrinated as a child my life would have been much easier. little girls growing up in Afghanistan are living in a horror show. its objective reality. you want to be tolerant and accepting thats great, but what is your stance on educating young girls? because if it is that you think they should be educated.. maybe you have a stance against relgion too.
