As promised, I’ve come to share our recent experience with Maevis’s new litter.

Maevis started going into labour at around 1700 on Saturday. She experienced some contractions and was seeking a lot of attention from my wife and I. We had her setup in her birthing den, giving her lots of pets and treats trying to make it as comfortable as possible for her. Her contractions were getting much stronger before they just stopped completely. She went out of labor around 5 hours in. She then passed her mucus plug and we noticed the contractions starting again around 02:30. This time it was evident she was getting very uncomfortable. At around 05:30 she still hadn’t made any progress passing a newborn but the contractions were still very strong. There’s a serious risk of complications if the queen passes her mucus plug and doesn’t deliver a baby. With this in mind we took Maeve to the emergency vet surgery at around 06:45.

We were seen by the vet at 07:30 where they took her up for imaging and diagnostic testing. The x-rays showed that her baby’s were so big that they couldn’t pass through her birthing canal. She was immediately admitted for an emergency c-section.

At around 12:30 we were told that Maeve’s surgery was a total success! She delivered 4, MASSIVE kittens who were all healthy. By 13:30 we were on the way home!

Unfortunately, Maevis didn’t react very well to coming off of the anesthesia.. poor thing was freaking out trying to get at her babies so badly. When we introduced her to the babies she was aggressively trying to move them. We had to separate them again on the way home (which, by the way, was way too early. They should’ve kept her for a few more hours and watch her come off the medications) where she then proceeded to lose her mind in the car. Throwing herself against the cage and panicking.

Once we had them all home, the hard cone became a threat to the babies. She was aggressively trying to move them outside the den but she didn’t know how hard she was handling the kittens. Don’t worry, they’re totally okay and we dealt with it very quickly!

We were also on the clock because she needed to breast feed her new babies for that first milk which is critical for their immune systems. It was a really difficult, hands on experience but we got through it.

I ended up having to pet or just touch Maeve for an hour straight to keep her calm and stable enough to lay down and feed her kittens. Once the medications wore off she was back to her nurturing loving ways.

A 12 hour labour that last throughout the night, an emergency c-section, a distraught and very high Maevis, and two people who are operating on no sleep. Still wouldn’t change a thing. It’s such a rewarding experience. If you and your partner want to do some bonding activities, be a guardian. We went through all the ranges of emotions yesterday. We pushed ourselves in ways we didn’t know and supported eachother in amazing ways. A really amazing experience.

Oh, and Salami, Muffuletta, Gabagool, Principessa, and Maevis are all very healthy and happy. We can’t wait to share their 12 week journey with you lot!

Hello Devon Rex world!

Just a quick hello from me today and to let everyone know Maevis delivered 4 VERY big babies yesterday! There’s a stressful story around the events that occurred so I will post after work today or tomorrow.

But what I will tell you is that there is 3 girls and 1 boy!

My wife and I went the Italian route this time 😂 here are the names by colour:

Brown (Male): Gabagool
Brown & white: Muffuletta
Black & white: Principessa
White: Salami

We’re about two weeks away from seeing another litter from Maevis! My wife and I are excited and a little nervous about going through this process again. This will be her last litter before our queen is retired for good!

Kolwy has grown relatively bigger.. she’s tiny for 5 months but we believe she inherited her mother’s figure. Poor baby was spayed a few days ago so she’s bundled in a onesie and the drugs are making her extra cuddly.

Many more updates to come with the new babies and here are a few photos since the last time we posted.

I’ve just recently adopted a Devon Rex kitten! She’s female and 6 months old. I’m told she’s on her “ugly duckling” stage as the breeder called it. Her fur should grow in soon haha. Anyways I noticed she has a leaky eye and it crusts. I clean it everyday but was told it was due to feline herpes she got from her mother. Now her other eye (the good one) has almost like a film on it. It’s foggy and I’m really worried!! She seems to be acting just fine. Purring and playing with her brother, but is this normal for Devon’s or did she just get unlucky and this is the symptom of the herpes? Would love to know if any veteran Devon owners experienced this! Thank you! 😊

These 2 are male and female (the bigger light colored one is about to celebrate his 1st bday and the smaller girl is about 5 months old)and are so loyal to eachother already. I took this a day or two ago walking into my house after being gone a few hours and they were in the window waiting for us added a few more pics to show my appreciation for these 2! Say hello to Thorfinn & Thora!!! Oh, and the big pure orange fluffy guy is Shinji, he's the oldest chunkiest good boy that Thorfinn likes to hang out with.

My sweet Lemon has been vomiting. It used to be bile so I gave him smaller, frequent meals. That helped for a while. Then he started vomiting food. This morning he vomited a hairball. It was the biggest one I have seen him make in his 4 years with me.

He went to the vet Thursday and has a follow up in a few days. His xrays were clean, and so was his fecal sample. He is taking Cerenia prescribed by the vet. Working with vet to adjust his food. We have another devon from the same breeder and he is not vomiting. They eat pretty much the same diet.

How can I soothe Lemon's poor tummy? What has worked for your kitty when they are vomiting?

It’s been a moment! Kolwy is growing so fast. I used to hold her in the palm of my hand and now she’s just a little shit who torments poor pregnant Maevis. It’s all very cute, they play loads together and love to snuggle once her zoomies are done.

Hello! I’ve been researching and looking for a kitty for years, and I’ve finally settled on a Devon Rex! I was wondering if anyone knew of any reputable breeders in New England? I’m having the hardest time finding anyone….

Hi everyone, I have had my 5 month old for about 2 months now. Soon after I got her, she got a little sick on me. She would sneeze and she would squint her eyes a lot, especially her right eye. I've already taken her to the vet. The vet did a bunch of tests which came back negative. She thinks it might be herpes but still prescribed her antibiotics and terramycin for her eyes. I've already completed treatment and my baby is not doing any better.

I reached out to the breeder and she said none of her kittens and adult cats are aick and she's never seen this before (the constant sneezing). She asked if I had dogs, which I do, and brought up the idea that she could be allergic? Is this possible? The first couple of weeks of getting my kitty she was so happy and playful and now she just looks a little sad...

Any advice helps!!

Hi All, I'm shooting a hail Mary here, my cat is in need of a blood transfusion but she has type B blood and thats apparently super rare. I've been calling clinics all day trying to find anyone with type B blood and striking out everywhere. Vet said a donor is the best bet. We are at an ER in Springfield VA, I can drive anywhere along the east coast to pick it up, can even get someone in the Chicagoland area to pick it up and fly it out here . I'll even pay for same day or overnight express shipping. I just want to save my baby. Please if you have a type B cat who can donate let me know. I already lost my first human child earlier this year. Shes my first furchild I cant lose her too.

Hi! What type of cat litter are you using for your devons? The breeder was using paper pellets, my kitten is good with clay or paper. I am currently using paper but hate the smell after a couple of days and would love to use clay but it has so much dust that i feel like it is unhealthy for her lungs. I also tried the wood one - catalyst - and i hated it. It would stick to her paws and she would try to lick it off and gag. I immediately washed her off and the consistency of the litter was jelly-like and hard to wash off, like a biofilm.

Edit: we are trying the worlds best track defense made from corn. The clumping is great, there’s no odor control, and spoiler: it tracks (she has a top entry litter box). Overall not bad, I’ll update again if we try another one (I’m curious about the tofu litter). Also, she eats the grains 🤦‍♀️

It is with great pleasure to announce that Maeve has been bred for her very LAST time and is due end of August, beginning of September. The lovely boy in the first few pictures is Iggy and he was the lucky guy to mate with Maevis. I’ll be back to posting more regularly as her pregnancy progresses.

Hi everyone! I just got this little guy exactly a week ago. I got a female about 6 weeks ago and wanted to get her a little companion and I am so glad I did! They absolutely love eachother. He is CFA registered and my female isn't. However, he looks more Sphynx like. Does being CFA registered necessarily prove that he's a purebred Devon? These are my first cats ever so I have no idea! He's considered a flame point and has beautiful blue eyes but mostly look reddish with lighting. He's also very hairless but has hair on his legs, tail, and behind his ears. He's also got a big belly and not as athletic as my female. They are both the same exact age. I've seen pics of mom and dad and they both look like a Devon Rex. What do y'all think? The female is the blue/gray color. Thanks!!

Hello:) I have been searching for what feels like an eternity for an adult retired/rehomed Devon or Cornish Rex. I live in Southern California and cannot find an adult for the life of me, at least not in California. I’ve searched for breeders listed on tica.org in my area, but haven’t had any luck with the breeders listed there. I’ve been on FB groups and have spoken to a few breeders here and there, in different locations across the US, but again..no luck. I found one older sweet as can be Devon Rex just yesterday at a shelter just 7 hours away from me, but alas that also fell through, as someone has already adopted him. Any help would be SO greatly appreciated. I’m just feeling so incredibly discouraged and honestly heartbroken. Please DM me if you know of anyone in the Southern California area or in the US that currently or may have an adult available. I am willing to travel or use a flight nanny as well. I have a two year-old girl who came to me with a bit of funky poop. Her poop is well formed but really stinky doesn’t matter what I feed her even with Raw food they still smell nasty.
Is this just Devon’s digestive system or is there anything I can do?

Clark is 16 weeks old & Sparky is 11 weeks old.

I'm getting a pair of kittens in two weeks. They are blue smoke/silver point and seal smoke/silver point. Mom is a black smoke and dad is a silver tabby. I'm familiar with what blue and seal points look like but I've never seen smoke/silver points before. I was really curious if anyone has a smoke point and can describe what the adult coat is like in their cat or send pics. Attached some photos for cuteness.

I recently lost my soul cat, he was a red point and my first Devon (Sasquatch). I also have a chocolate devon (Eevee). They are the best breed ever. Also attached some photos of my OG devons.

Life is so cruel sometimes but we're so glad we got to spend her final 4 years with her ❤️
