Long-term maintenance recommendations for Ecoboost Mustang

  • Buy 2020+ if you can (potentially fixed head gasket issue)
  • Keep it pure stock (engine-wise, and tune-wise)
  • Change engine oil and filters every 5k miles
  • Use a 100% synthetic engine oil
  • Change spark plugs every 25k miles
  • Pump only Premium fuel (for me it's 93)
  • Wait for 10-20 seconds before driving (after cold start)
  • Warm up the engine and transmission to the "green" zone of your gauges (usually 10-15 mins of driving) before going high rpm or boost
  • Monitor cylinder head temperature (CHT) when you drive hard to avoid going above 222F. Let the throttle off if the CHT is approaching this temp
  • Monitor boost gauge to avoid using boost before the engine is warmed up (be gentle on throttle)
  • Wait a few seconds before turning the engine off after hard driving

P.S. Owner of 2020/01/01-registered Ecoboost Premium (non-PP), 10R80, stock, no tune. The only modification on the car is the MBRP Street exhaust. 227k miles

Note on how I drive the car

Full auto (normal mode) until CHT and transmission temps are in the "green" zone. Then regular Sport (shifter in S) until trans warms up fully (above green zone), then I stay in S, or use S+, and at the same time keep the engine rpm above 3.5k using paddles - anything less is boring to drive in my opinion. I do occasional pulls, but not overdo it - I heard that Ecoboost loves high rpm, but not exactly likes boost. I keep it approximately 4-5k rpm all the time, so it's above the boost-effective range (if the CHT reasonably allows me to hold it). Take this with a grain of salt, because I'm not sure this driving style really affected longevity in a good way but it looks like it.

My Build I’ve built an app to share your build

Hi!

I built a web app for car enthusiasts to share your build and explore other builds. Is it something you’d use?

You can share your cars with all your mods. Just paste the link, and the title, image, and category fill in automatically.  You can also share planned mods, fitment details and more.

You can also explore builds, save the mods you find mods.

I want to make this as useful as possible for the car community.

t’s 100% free, no paywalls, no subscriptions. The web app is live, though there’s no mobile version just yet. Still in beta, so if anything breaks, I’d appreciate a heads-up.

I want your feedback. Is this something useful to you? What features would you add? Is this something you'd use?

Question How’re your S650s holding up? (‘24-‘26 Mustangs)

Hey guys I’m a 2025 S650 owner and I was wondering how your S650s are holding up?

There’s a new recall about the engine wiring harness that can cause you to lose power and I’m wondering if anyone has any issues yet? Could you please also say how many miles you’ve driven as well? That way I can gauge how much time I might have before I should start to worry… The remedy won’t be available until March and I’m sure it’ll be on back order…

My 2025 has about 6000 miles on it and hasn’t had any issues yet. I absolutely love this thing! Runs great and I just got my second oil change a couple of weeks ago, they inspected everything and said everything was good. That was before the recall went out so idk if they knew to check the wiring harness yet or not. But it feels perfectly fine rn and I definitely have some fun with it during the weekends. Let me know about yours!

This is the hot side there was also residue oil residue In the turbo, car makes good boost still I also fixed this leak with cv fab charge pipes. but I’m curious of y’all’s thoughts on the amount of oil seepage here, it wasn’t dripping on the skid plate. Car just passed 70k miles.

Swapped out the all seasons for some Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 V2 summer tires. These things have some serious grip. 😁

So here’s my question! I’m in love 🥰 not overly loud or anything like people said, has a great tone, I’m getting pops and burbles, and I no longer hear my injectors sitting in a drive through line 👍 So! I’ve got a few videos but I’m not liking the sound quality! Any advice for IPhones! Thanks!🙏

Best fuses to hardwire dashcam on 2020 Mustang?

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hardwiring a DDPAI Z60 with parking mode on my 2020 Mustang. Need one constant 12V fuse and one ACC/switched fuse.

With a multimeter, #23, #25, #26 and #27 have constant power. #31 is 0V when off and ~13V with ignition on.

Thinking #25 for constant and #31 for ACC.

Anyone hardwired a dashcam on a 2020 Mustang? Which fuses did you use?

Any battery drain/issues?

Came across this at a dealership.

I wouldn't ordinarily have given it a second look due to the high mileage. But I've been looking for a Grabber Lime HPP, and they're pretty much unicorns.

Previous owner apparently added every piece of fake carbon fiber doodad he could find on Amazon. Most of that can be reversed.

The 120k miles can't be reversed though.

If I could haggle it down a bit, I'd be tempted.

Tell me why a used high mileage HPP is a horrible purchase.

Question Shifts

So i was driving and my transmission temperature was around 210 and i was in sport + going fast and i noticed the shifts were hard like i felt it, this happened before same temperature and situation. But when i put sport+ or track mode on when the transmission is around 120 degrees the shifts are smooth. Is that normal? Ive already replaced trans fluid and had it serviced the dealership has said it’s no issues

Sike!

Just picked up this bad boy about 3 weeks ago and im loving it! When I was car shopping at first I was all about getting a v8(my past mustang's were GT's).

I had a 88.. 93 and a 04 40th anniversary edition so my mind was made up.. or so I thought lol. Even when I test drove it I wasn't overly excited but I purchased and took it home.

These last few weeks I've manage to put 500mi on the car(I live in TX 😅) and let me tell you.. I am very happy with this car! It's MPG is fantastic and it's powerful enough to make me smile when I hit the go pedal.

I can't wait to fully break it in so I can have some more fun with it.. she's definitely a keeper!

Hopefully an easy question with a straight forward answer. If I install this on my 24 Mustang Eco, will my check engine light come on? Any code issues?
