I graduated about a year ago, had shipped my diploma from the UK to the US, but it arrived with water damage! I kinda just forgot about it for a year, but I want to buy a new, undamaged diploma to hang up in my room. How can I do this?

I have no idea how to sign up for a student membership at Pleasance Gym, I've been on Edinburgh Sport multiple times and made an account with my student email but it's still only showing community, corporate, etc memberships and nothing for students. I've heard something about some portal having opened but I can't seem to find it. If anyone knows and can help that would be greatly appreciated.

Is there a hard deadline for admission decisions at UK universities (specifically Edinburgh Physics undergrad) for international students (EU and US)?
I have a relative who is convinced she will be starting a Physics undergraduate degree at Edinburgh this autumn. It’s now the end of August and she still has no firm admission decision and no clarity on finances.

My question is whether there’s even a theoretical chance of her being admitted, sorted for funding, getting a visa (if needed), finding accommodation, and actually starting lectures in September when none of those things are in place yet.
Additional context I’ve been given: EU and US applicants have different rules at Edinburgh.

Someone also said that if she already had a place she would be submitting final grades and transcripts right now.

So a few follow-ups:

• Are international students who have been accepted currently in the process of submitting grades/transcripts?

• How are people supposed to arrange accommodation, visa, and everything else with only about three weeks left before lectures start?

• Can anyone elaborate on the typical/realistic timeline for late decisions for international applicants?

Genuinely curious about how the process works at this stage of the year.

I submitted my course choice form some time ago, but I thought I’d double check something before the deadline in case I need to redo it.

I have multiple names in the uni system, both a legal name and a chosen name. I submitted my form under my chosen name.

Does this invalidate the form? Is the paperwork transphobic? Do I need to redo it because of that?

Just thought I’d check, my anxiety is getting the better of me.

I'm a bit surprised, as tuition fees are paid for Scottish students. Food costs will be the same. Accomodation will only differ a few hundred pounds compared to other cities.

So what can increase that debt?

Incoming postgraduate student here—there's a class I really, really would like to take as an elective (not as a substitute for any program requirements) and it's open to all students in any school, students just have to sign up through whatever school they're apart of.

in undergrad, we had a very hands on portal/software where you added and removed classes onto your weekly schedule on your own. It was first come first serve whether it was open to all students or only explicitly only shown to eligible students/majors. Not receiving surveys preference ranking classes in our department and just randomly getting assigned lol. Degrees are too expensive to have someone essentially choose your classes for you!!

is there some sort of portal anywhere or something I'm missing? There's nothing that says I need the approval of my program director to take an extra class and add credits but they're def acting that way and are handing it off to my unassigned student advisor.

Hi there, moving into a single Pollock res from overseas and trying to decide what kind of suitcases or large duffel bags to bring my stuff in. Although easier for transport, seems like bringing several large suitcases will create an issue in my small room -where do I store them for the year? Do people bring duffel bags and stuff somewhere? Is there a storage spot in the building that I could keep the suitcases until I need them again. Please give me advise. Thanks!

So, I am looking to pick my elective course before the deadline (2nd September) and I was looking at course related to finance because it interest me.

I am looking at certain course such as “Introduction to financial markets” and path said it is available for me to pick (via the blue colour) but when I click onto the course and the requirements said it is only for accounting, finance and business student.

So am I able to pick this course or not?

I have an unconditiopnal firm offer for the University of Edinburgh starting this September. I was accepted onto my second chouce though, which was BEng Electronics & Computer Science. How flexible is the University/could the University be in swapping to a degree in Informatics like Computer Science?

(Is this possible? Will I need to reapply?)

I’ve been offered a room at morgan court but, despite me saying multiple times, this room is mix gendered and I require one that is male only and it’s been a week with no info from the accommodation team. I wanted to ask whether anyone would be willing to switch with me for a male only en-suite accommodation. Hey everyone I was wondering what stats got people into edinburgh med. I am really keen on applying so I was hoping for some useful info from people who went there or previously went.

Things that I am looking for is grades preferably the scottish curriculum as I am a scottish pupil. Other things include like work experience, volunteering, other experiences e.g part-time job, dofe and how about you got those.

Other things that I would truly appreciate is how people went about their revision for highers, UCAT and the interview (I am aware not everyone learns the same).

I'm asking for specifics like daily from Monday to Friday, then on weekends, and weekly in general, how much free time do you have?

I want to clearly gauge how much free time I would realistically have as a first year student doing a joint honours degree (Philosophy and English Lit), as I will be self-catered and looking for a part time job (hopefully).

For background information: I came from an American school system, and there are clear differences between the American Uni system and the UK one. I would assume there'd be differences between workload as well.

I know Uni is what you make of it so you will be as busy as you make yourself, but I just want to hear real thoughts and opinions.

Any advice in general helps, as I have not seen recent posts in this subreddit asking similar questions.

Therefore I had planned to go visit my friend Thurs-Sat during welcome week. However, I realized that I need to change a couple of my courses, would I be able to do that Mon-Weds?

Hi everyone! I got offered the Uni of Edinburgh's accommodation in McLeod Street, which is in Gorgie (right next to the stadium). I've obviously done some research into it, the residence itself looks lovely but I've never visited Edinburgh and know nothing about which areas are nice and which are unsafe.

I've heard conflicting things about Gorgie. Some say it is nice, affordable, up and coming, but I've heard some say it is not a nice area and it is quite rough. It is also about 30 minutes by bus from where I will study at uni.

It is on the expensive side (normally £12,000 for the year) but I got a reduced price as they ran out of cheaper accommodation. So, most people there will be more well-off and used to nice areas, which reassures me a bit, especially as someone from a council estate in the north of England, but I am still worried about the area. Is crime bad? What is it like living there? Will I need to be extra careful living there? What kinds of people live there? Are there lots of drunkards or drug addicts? Is it safe at nighttime, or do I need to be constantly looking over my shoulder (not that I don't anyway, but more than usual?)?

Sorry about all the questions, I'm completely new and safety is something I am always very concerned about when I go to new places.

For context, I'm from Hull, so if anyone could compare Gorgie to an area in Hull, crime-wise, etc, I would really appreciate that. I haven't signed the contract yet because I am so worried about the area.

If anyone is a student living at McLeod Street that would be really useful too, as that's where I would be living if I accept it.

Hello!! This might sound silly but I’m starting my MSc in September at age 29. I’ve been in the work force since undergrad and just now going back to school. I was wondering if there were any others out there not in their early 20s or how normal it is for someone to be around my age or older. I know I shouldn’t care but would love to know that I’m not alone!
