SPOILER! DANGER! Endgame’s plot is honestly some of the weakest writing in the MCU
The more I think about Endgame, the less the Nebula/Thanos plot makes sense.
Why did 2023 Nebula just stand there malfunctioning instead of immediately returning to the future? She knows Thanos is in 2014. The second something weird starts happening with her network, LEAVE.
And how does this “shared neural network” even work? Two Nebulas exist, apparently sharing memories/data, but somehow only 2014 Nebula conveniently receives 2023 Nebula’s memories.
Shouldn’t that work both ways? Why doesn’t 2023 Nebula start seeing what 2014 Nebula is doing too?
Even more conveniently, the FIRST useful memory Thanos sees is basically the exact information he needs to figure out the Avengers’ entire plan. Perfect timing.
Then 2014 Nebula somehow impersonates future Nebula perfectly while future Nebula becomes almost helpless. Why isn’t the younger Nebula malfunctioning too?
The biggest problem: how does 2014 Nebula bring Thanos’ entire army through time?
The Avengers just spent years figuring out time travel, built specialized equipment, used Pym Particles, and barely understood what they were doing. Yet Thanos apparently studies Nebula for a few minutes and suddenly knows how to send himself, his massive ship, and his whole army to 2023.
Did he build a time machine? Modify the Avengers’ device? Create a portal? How did he have enough Pym Particles? The movie basically says, “Thanos figured it out.”
Then there’s the final fight.
Stoneless Thanos somehow beats Thor, Iron Man, and Captain America almost by himself. This is the same Thanos who nearly lost multiple times while HAVING Infinity Stones.
And where was Captain Marvel during all of this? She arrives ridiculously late, destroys his ship instantly, but even she somehow struggles with stoneless Thanos.
Then everyone starts playing football with the Infinity Gauntlet instead of actually using the Stones.
Why not use one Stone against Thanos? Why not have Ant-Man shrink himself and the Gauntlet microscopic and hide? Why doesn’t Captain Marvel simply take the Gauntlet into space? Thanos’ ship was already destroyed. Who exactly was going to catch her?
Hell, Captain Marvel could arguably have tried using the Gauntlet herself. Hulk survived using it, and Carol is one of the most durable and powerful beings in the MCU.
I love the spectacle of Endgame, but so much of the climax only works because characters suddenly stop thinking logically and the rules bend exactly when the plot needs them to.
