Image lookup request for a restricted record

Upvotes

Hi, I posted this in the Genealogy sub but it probably makes more sense here. I wanted to view this record on FamilySearch but it's one of those that are only accessible from an affiliate library or FS centre. Unfortunately neither is an option for me due to my location. Being able to see this particular record would be super helpful in my research! Would anyone be able to help, please?

This is the record in question: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:6YPQ-6FG1?lang=en

Digital Folder Number 008155606_009_M994-VK4

Image Number 108

Originating System CAI:I2S

Any help is much appreciated. Thank you!

I genuinly have no idea how to continue with my maternal grandfather's side.

So, I've been trying to go further back on my maternal grandfather's side for what seems like ages, and I genuinely don't think I can go further back, no matter how hard I try. I really want to keep going, but I just don't know how. Geneteka doesn't have any more records for my ancestors indexed, and Szukaj W Archiwach isn't something I can put enough time into going through. Even then, I think the Moczkiewicz side is Lithuanian, not Polish, so they wouldn't even be there, and I don't know where I can go through Lithuanian records. At the very least, I want to find Wincenty Moczkiewicz's and Wojciech Piasecki's grandparents, but with Wincenty being Lithuanian and Wojciech's consistent lying about his date of birth, I don't know if that's going to be possible. I know I've gotten further than my grandfather did, and he would be proud of me if he saw what I did. But there's also the thought of him, now deceased, has probably met and knows all the information about the people I'm trying to find, and is simply waiting for me to find it. I just don't know if I'm going to be able to or not. My grandfather's ID is GYNV-N1V. If someone can help with any of his sides, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Could anyone help me access a restricted 1899 Cook County marriage image?

Hi everyone,

I’ve finally identified the marriage of my great-great-grandparents, William John Curtin and Katie/Catharine Curtin, in Chicago on 6 September 1899.

FamilySearch has the indexed record, but I can’t view the original image from home. I’m hoping someone with FamilySearch Center access might be able to retrieve the image for me.

The details are:

DGS: 004262226

Microfilm: 1030301

Image: 137

Record number: 297028

FamilySearch record:

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:N7D7-88D?lang=en

I’m particularly interested in anything the original image contains that isn’t in the index — especially the officiant, church, witnesses, addresses or any annotations.

This marriage has been a bit of a breakthrough in a longer family-history search, so I’d really appreciate it if anyone can help.

Thanks very much!

Accessing MICROFILM (Image is NOT available online)

Hey everyone. I'm trying to SEE the image that correspond to this record as I believe it's a pivotal part of my genealogy (and Spanish citizenship).

I have been to a FamilySeach Library in person and the file IS NOT available there either. I've read online that the only way (if possible) to visualize this document is by going in person to the Utah Library.

Does anyone know if that's REALLY possible? I'm not from the US so that would require an international flight from me.

Any help is welcome! Thank you so much.

I can't remove wrong parent-child relationships

I know how to do it, and sometimes it works just fine.

But other times, I go through the process and nothing happens. No error message, just nothing changes.

In one particular case, I do get a message, "The system is currently unavailable." I emailed FS and they said I can call them, so I may have to do that.

I also note that some of the cases where it doesn't work, the unwanted relationship is marked "preferred" over the correct relationship. FS says there's a way to change what is preferred, or at least what will show to me as preferred, but I never see the gray arrow or whatever it was that they promised.

My theory is that these are the sites of ancient edit wars that FS has quietly marked as not to be tampered with. But just flag them as such, don't make me feel like a techno dummy

Demande d'aide pour trouver mon ancêtre

Bonjour,

I have strong reason to believe it is my grandfather's death record. Should be filed as ARCENIO DO NASCIMENTO.

Unfortunately, every time I email, call or visit the FS centres in my hometown, they are never available.

Before you request lookup of a limited access record on FamilySearch, please do a little homework:

I'm happy to look up limited-access records at my FamilySearch Center or Affiliate Library. I visit mine most weeks.

Please do a little homework before making your request.

From the catalog, it's easy to check the restriction level and know if someone can find the record for you and where we need to look.

The DGS number is listed on every indexed record, under Document Information.

In the catalog, you can search on the DGS number. https://www.familysearch.org/en/search/catalog

Some records can only be viewed at a FamilySearch Center:

Some can be viewed at both FamilySearch Centers and Affiliate Libraries:

And some cannot be viewed at either. They may be available in Salt Lake City.

It's a matter of asking for the right kind of lookup so those helping you don't have the burden of researching before doing the lookup.
My affiliate library is open 7 days a week, all day and late into the evening. There are 3 within a 10-minute drive
My FSC is only open for 2 hours per week, and is a 30-minute drive.

Thank you for making it easier to help you.

I wish sources could be tiered on FamilySearch

Don’t get me wrong I attach every record I find for an ancestor. But sometimes duplicates or single mention records really make an ancestor’s source tab bloated. Especially when it’s an ancestor with lots of children/grandchildren so they get attached to everything. Makes it annoying when you have to backtrack to read and need to find what sources relates directly to them in the pile. Would love if we could have some type of flag or tier we could attach to sources. Not sure if this is just an issue with Mexican records since they list lineage in them.

Request for Image Lookup - Restricted Baptism Records (Chile, 1838) Record Lookup

Could a volunteer please perform an image lookup for these restricted baptism records from 1838?

These records belong to my great-great-grandfather, who was born in 1838 in Vicuña, Chile. FamilySearch provides two possible matches for his baptism, and it must be one of these two links.

Accessing these original images is crucial for my family history study to confirm his identity. Unfortunately, the nearest FamilySearch Center is 100 km away, making it very difficult for me to visit in person. As a historical note, the Civil Registry in Chile was created in 1884; before that year, the Catholic Church had exclusive control over birth, marriage, and death records, making these parish documents the only existing records of his birth.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Can someone help retrieving a few locked images for me?

I have the exact records/images identified, but they are locked to me and can only be viewed at a FamilySearch Center or Affiliate Library. I would be extremely grateful if someone could access them and send me the images.

Help on restricted record

Hey everyone, I've been contributing to FamilySearch for over 10 years now, but I really struggle to get to the Family History Centers due to the distance. I've only managed to go once since I have to rely on getting a ride (there's no public transit that goes there). I was wondering if anyone here could help me out by looking up a record from my mom's hometown? Thanks in advance!

Gifting

I am meeting a half sibling for the first time. I’d like to offer a gift of some sort on behalf of our late parent who never had the chance to meet their child.
What would be appropriate?

Thank you
