Tech Question 2017 Escape High Mileage Maintenance Items?

I've got a 2017 Escape S with the 2.5. It's about 184k miles on it currently.

I've had it for around 5 years and put maybe 50k-ish miles on it since I got it.

I was originally planning on getting rid of it for something else but with the current used car market I'm not really finding anything I like in the price range I want so I figured I'd look into some of the bigger maintenance items on this car. I generally do most of my mechanical work myself.

I did brakes a couple years ago and they look fine when I looked at them a few months back. I had to replace the hvac blower motor last summer(that sucked a lot). Other than that I assume a trans fluid change would probably be good. Are there any other big ticket items to be aware of?

The car runs pretty great otherwise and the real only issue I'm aware of is a parking brake error when it's been raining due to a damaged electrical connector on one of the rear brakes that's on my list to replace.

I have noticed sometimes when I start the car for the first time of the day or after it's been sitting at work all day, I can hear what I assume is a bit of timing chain rattle but it goes away within a second or two of the engine running and I've got no trouble codes so I'm assuming that's just more of a high mileage thing for now.

Does a 2011 Escape have a Haldex system? Mechanics getting confused.

Hi everyone,
I have a 2011 Ford Escape XLT 4WD (2.5L). Recently, I took it to a local mechanic for a wheel alignment, and they noticed a loud humming/whining noise coming from the rear axle.
The mechanic told me that my "Haldex system" is completely dry (no oil) and that I need a full rebuild/restoration of the unit.
From what I understand, this generation of Ford Escape does not even use a Haldex system, but rather a standard rear differential with a JTEKT electromagnetic clutch (Active Torque Coupling) that runs dry.
I have two questions for the forum:
Just to be 100% sure, does my 2011 Escape have a Haldex system or any separate fluid for the coupling itself?
Is it common for mechanics to call this entire rear assembly a "Haldex" out of habit/confusion?

Tech Question 2016 ford escape eats tires and gas šŸ’øšŸ”„šŸ˜Ŗ

Why could I be getting such horrible gas mileage, and what could be done to improve it to help me actually be able to ā€œliveā€ off door dashing until I find my next job.

A year ago when gas was 2.20~2.70$ door dashing was actually pretty profitable but now with gas around 3.59~3.89$ I just feel like all I’m doing is putting everything I make right back into the gas tank

My kid’s 2013. The transmission feels like it’s slipping a little. We are hoping a transmission service will buy us another 6 months but then I hear this.
Is this the death rattle?

Discussion Why is owning a ford escape so frustrating

I guess I’m just trying to vent here .. my battery is losing charge, okay.. not a problem. I go to take a look! OH ! Forgot that stupid skirt is there!! Go to take off the windshield wipers so I can get the skirt off.. seems like every part of my car is SWOLLEN! Thanks Arizona heat 🫩🫩 in one day- a tire blew & then my battery .. I’m not made of money, so I’m trying to do as much as I can by myself.. but ford did a great job at making that almost impossible.

Discussion Potential transmission issues

I have a 2025 Ford Escape with a whopping 15,000 miles on it. I am already having jolting going on when my car changes gears. Today, I tried to speed up and my car had the longest delay it’s ever had to like speed up with a hard jolt and growling noise coming from the car. It’s so new that it’s still under warranty. It needs to go to the dealership anyway because I have a tire pressure sensor error šŸ™„.

Are these in fact signs of transmission issues? Sorry if this is a stupid question. I’m a 21 year old girl lmao

High milage drain and fill

My daughter got a shop to check her car, and they provided her with a laundry list of things that need to be fixed. Its a 2012 ford escape with 218k miles on it. One of the items said the transmission fluid needs attention. I have no idea if it has ever been changed. She doesn't know. After reading about this, Im woried that the transmission might start slipping after I do it. and of course I would be the blame. (no good deed goes unpunished, right?) Somebody told her that her second generation escape is so much better than a third generation, and it will last 500k.. But I do want to help her get down the road. So, I'm wondering if a limited drain and fill might be the way to go..like one round, about 4 quarts?

Family member owns a low mileage 2023 with the 2.0 eco boost motor.

Seems to be weeping oil here near the battery. I’ll have a mech look at it in October during oil change and winter tire swap - unless it’s more pressing?

PCV maybe?

2021 escape

When speeding up, it starts missing/ jolting a little bit, and stops after you hit about 30-40 mph
The rpm gauge also sometimes jumps up and down a little bit while just driving or on cruise control.
Just wondering if anyone has any ideas what could be wrong?

2012 Ford Escape 3.0L throttle Body Upgrade

I'm looking to upgrade or replace my throttle body. I've done some work to the intake and I feel that the throttle still isn't as responsive as I would like. Does anybody have an suggestion on getting a new throttle body that would fit or a new OEM body.

Suspension clunky

2001 Ford escape 3l. Vehicle drives straight, no obvious noises while turning the wheel while parked. Passenger side front side lifted to shake a few things around, nothing obvious. Goes over bumps while straight fine.

If offset slightly, or one wheel hits and the other doesn't on speed bumps, a chunk sound can be herd. Left passenger side.

Really appreciate some advice and where to look for problems next. Thanks in advance!

2011 Ford Escape noise when in D and idle

Thumbnail youtube.com
2 Upvotes

For a few years now I've had this noise coming from the vehicle. I notice it when I'm stopped with foot on the brake and in D. If I shift into N the noise stops. In the video you can hear it, sounds like it is coming from under the vehicle so I'm guessing related to transmission. Also thought it could be the motor mounts needing replaced. Just over 120,000 miles. Thoughts?

2011 tag light socket question

The driver side license plate bulb burnt out and melted the socket some. While trying to pull the bulb it broke in the socket. Finally got it out using a pick and the remaining bulb broke into 3 pieces. I put a new bulb in and it won't light up.

There are 4 wires going into the bulb socket but all the universal replacement sockets have 2.

I assume hook 2 to one wire and 2 to the other?

Also is there a better way to access the wires? There is no slack to pull it out and rewire it from the outside. I took the lift gate panel off and removed the 2 nuts but the outside plastic panel is still attached somewhere and I'm trying not to force anything and break the plastic parts. Does the glass have to open to remove it? If so I need to figure out why it won't open.

Tech Question 2024 ST Elite Brake Wear

We've had our '24 ST Elite for a bit less than a year, with a bit over 14,000 km. It was purchased new last October from a local Ford dealership, after sitting for 14 months waiting on parts to complete the back up camera recall. My question is, has anyone noticed excessive rear brake pad wear? We had a '23 Bronco Sport before that, put almost 40,000km on it in about 30 months and did not experience any wear that seemed abnormal.
