You mean „press L3“, right? Who the fuck holds it down.

imagine tap L3 faster to sprint lol

u/StrigidaeNinox 5h ago

Think of how many controllers they’ll sell when everyone causes stick drift after a week of playing.

2

u/Bluemikami 4h ago

They found out ninty had sick joycon drift and they decided they also wanted a part of it.

u/Algae587 1h ago

Right in time for limited edition GTA 6 controllers!

1

u/Critical-Cow-3184 1h ago

Just replace the potentiometer. It's not hard, I can do it for you

u/MeowingWolf 7h ago

They should have a hardcore achievement like New Vegas from beginning to end without switching it off in your playthrough. GTA 6 should also change the controls to keep tapping L3 to make it as difficult as possible fot hardcore mode hahaha

1

u/vordhosbn_1 3h ago

You can’t sprint in vanilla New Vegas

1

u/MeowingWolf 2h ago edited 1h ago

I know. I was just talking about hardcore mode mode being adapted to GTA.

2

u/ThePreciseClimber 6h ago

Don't give them ideas!

1

u/NateShaw92 6h ago

At that point my conspuracy theory about Rockstar being paid to break controllers with control schemes will be proven

1

u/Godess_Ilias 5h ago

pump on that thang

1

u/TheBlueNinja2006 5h ago

Stick drift speedrun

1

u/aquaticsardonic 4h ago

Id rather not

1

u/Mikeytruant850 3h ago

This gave me anxiety

1

u/Chill_Panda 3h ago

Tap L3 to sprint would be the funniest shit man

1

u/Nemesis-Inferno 3h ago

The thing of nightmares.

1

u/MKBRD 3h ago

Lick the touchpad to sprint.

1

u/Sattaman6 3h ago

Now that would be an amazing design choice.

1

u/SifuSif 1h ago

Wait.. Y’all don’t bind your sprint to tap L3?

1

u/brycemasee 33m ago

I think this is what Crimson Desert's default is. Not great.

u/Optimal-Speaker-6945 7h ago

True. I remember playing black ops 3 back in the day and for some reason I had to hold l3 to sprint, absolutely killed my hand 😭

30

u/Ashamed_Form8372 7h ago

I think your controller was broken then it happened to me before in bo3

u/Vast-Albatross-4331 5h ago

average Redditor

2

u/Ashamed_Form8372 5h ago

What are you on about. This is just normal wear and tear. When you play cod it requires you to press l3, and r3 a lot especially in multiplayer just it puts more wear and tear on those sticks which can lead to stick drift and button not working properly

2

u/SaintNick24 5h ago

Nope it probably wasn’t broken. That was a setting option in the game. Either toggle or hold to sprint

25

u/PlanktonOk5762 7h ago

Your controller was broke. You definitely didn’t have to hold it to sprint

u/NotAFrenchii 7h ago

That’s not what he said

1

u/SuperRockGaming 7h ago

Nahh you right, my fault bro it's early😭😭

7

u/slothxaxmatic 6h ago

That's because there's a setting called toggle sprint that you probably needed

1

u/stereopticon11 6h ago

I think it’s a setting in the options, my friend still plays black ops 3 and he asked me to play for him while he went to the restroom. To my surprise, I had to hold in the joystick to run, on a basically brand new 8bitdo ultimate 2 (plays on pc).

1

u/TaroKitanoHWA 4h ago

Killzone 1 on ps2 had that, holding L3 down hurt

1

u/ilovehamburgers 3h ago

Try playing Black Ops 6 with the Omni movement. Good lord, I went through 2 joysticks on two different controllers.

1

u/sadcringe 2h ago

black ops 3

back in the day

Wtf. Back in the day means cod2 maybe cod4 to me lmao not blops3

1

u/Equivalent_Quote_486 6h ago

Bro you could’ve put “toggle sprint on” and you would just have to click it once to sprint 😭

9

u/Pearcinator 7h ago

No, it's tap L3.

30

u/LeonardoDickSlaprio 6h ago

You have to tap L3 and R3 in an alternating pattern, as they correspond to the left and right legs respectively. It's a bit like QWOP.

1

u/German_Devil_Dog 5h ago

Rockstar Games hired David Cage?

1

u/deerdn 2h ago

that's speed stars. actually a pretty addictive game https://poki.com/en/g/speed-stars

9

u/AwarenessThick1685 7h ago

Apparently I've been doing it wrong for 20+ years 🙃 isnt thumbstick usually the sprint button in games ?

5

u/nirvanatheory 7h ago

The concern is clicking it like a toggle while moving vs holding it in while running using the same stick to control the direction.

1

u/Cryptographer_Weekly 1h ago

Yeah it's really bad for people whose joints that have arthritis to be putting that kind of pressure at an angle. And I'm sure it's really great for people who don't, aiding them with getting it early in life LOL

1

u/RedSnow984 2h ago

Yes it’s going to work like every other game that’s uses L3 people just really want to be edgy and different by being obtuse

9

u/TheWidrolo 7h ago

Well, knowing that we’re speaking about the company that used tapping X for sprinting means it’s probably holding🫩

18

u/Glados1080 7h ago

They'd have to be genuine schizo to not have a toggle controls option. The most basic feature in any game these days

3

u/ChaoticKiwiNZ 7h ago

RDR2 has toggle to sprint on L3 as an option so I would say that it will be the same for GTA6.

1

u/SoloGamingVentures 6h ago

Default setting in RDR2 was tap X (PlayStation) or A (Xbox) to sprint though right?

1

u/prettygirlgravesite 3h ago

according to TGG they’re gonna be giving us the option to toggle on/off a lot of the new changes so i doubt we can’t change the control schemes

6

u/Maurex96 6h ago

I've always preferred holding it down in most games, my friend once told me to switch to toggle but my brain just can't do it

1

u/SchwiftyBabyLegs 7h ago

Rockstar in first person... lmao

1

u/TheShoot141 7h ago

It would be horrible to hold

1

u/ThePreciseClimber 6h ago

I remember in Darkwatch (Xbox, PS2), you had to HOLD the left stick click to crouch. And you had to keep holding it while pushing the stick in a direction to crouch-walk.

Curiously, the only time you actually had to crouch in the game was in the train tutorial. So thank God for that!

1

u/NateShaw92 6h ago

raises hand tentatively i do.

1

u/Warm-Reporter8965 6h ago

I prefer hold to sprint, I hate toggled sprinting unless it's the type of toggle where it stops sprinting but does not stay toggled after certain actions.

1

u/EvilWaterman 6h ago

Please!!!

1

u/bsousa717 6h ago

I bought a third party controller with back buttons to map for games that use L3 and R3 and now I can't go back. Never liked holding them down ever.

1

u/Vegan-cock 6h ago

Holding it down and moving the stick doesn't feel very healthy for the controller. L3/R3 are terrible inputs imo. They should add another bumper or trigger or something instead. Stick clicking is cancer.

1

u/Think_Basket6454 6h ago

Tap L3 for sprint is the stuff of nightmares

1

u/DrejmeisterDrej 5h ago

My guess? Idea is you can’t make sharp turns while sprinting

1

u/Mindless_Ad_8715 5h ago

I imagine there will be a toggle/hold option

1

u/Georgxna 5h ago

Some games you have to hold L3 and the cramp is awful!

1

u/Galencourt-Lover 5h ago

"Do you want stick drift? Because that’s how you get stick drift"

1

u/Desperate-Capital467 5h ago

the correct answer is: TAP severall times R3 to run...

1

u/LAXBASED 5h ago

The forest thankfully they had a toggle option I only learned the hard way from being to lazy to fully check the settings

1

u/TheJuupy 5h ago

Yeah. Good ol' Bad Company 1 had hold l3 to sprint and it was horrible. Joys of early ps3/360 games and wonky controls.

1

u/Lower_Cream_2461 5h ago

If you have to hold it down your joysticks are basically sentenced to death

1

u/Upset-Management-879 4h ago

Why wouldn't you? it takes no more pressure to hold it down than to not.

1

u/Nannautu 3h ago

I think it's common for people to accidentally push it when they're trying to move it, so it might make sense

1

u/Forever_H0meless 3h ago

Stick drift

1

u/MARKMORLE 3h ago

Holy shid if theres holding the stick down to sprint…mane

1

u/SaltyTelluride 3h ago

Hopefully. Games have had a “toggle sprint” setting for a couple decades now but I still get surprised every now and then by a game that doesn’t

1

u/darrencashden 2h ago

No wonder my L3 is always cooked

1

u/SonderEber 2h ago

Too many games, on various platforms, love to make you hold it down. Not even a toggle selection, just gotta hold it.

1

u/tonygodzconfidential 42m ago

Cyberpunk 2077 lol

0

u/SeaweedOk9985 7h ago

This was the default configuration for sprint in games when they used L3. It's nothing new and it's the config I prefer. Toggle is less intuitive.

0

u/whatsapprocky 7h ago

Yeah, it seems like a toggle because that doesn’t make sense. You can hold down L3 while moving the stick? That’s weird.

0

u/RockinMadRiot 7h ago

Likely it's an option.

I always felt press L3 was better than tap x anyway. Curious what X will now become

0

u/Cobiuss 7h ago

I do. I do not like toggle sprint.
