I doubt it's hold L3 to sprint. I played a game that did that once... never again. My hand was a wreck after a few hours.

It’s likely a toggle not a full hold

Isn't that the default for most games? Or am I crazy?

Most games is tap to sprint.

Means you press it once and can let go of it.

The way the post title is phrased sounds like you have to hold it down, which is unusual, uncomfortable, and fucking mental. Probably just a mistake

This thread is how I learned after 10’s of thousands of hours gaming that I must just have conditioned myself to have turbo thumbs because I’ve been holding that stick down to sprint since I was like 8 lol

me too man, this feels like a Mandela Effect.

I must be taking crazy pills because, me too. I swear every game is holding down the left stick and not a toggle.

How does it read like you have to hold it?

It says “no tap X to sprint, it’s L3”

That directly implies it would be a tap.

Read the post title

That’s just some Reddit bro posting a title. They have no fucking clue. I’m reading the source of the post.

But that isn’t what he was talking about… he was talking about the Reddit post

I see that now but the post title is not something to relied on in any manner.

Smart enough to know it is best to look at the source material. Not smart enough to acknowledge that there may be confusion because the post title contradicts the source material.

The title of this post.

So you’re trusting some nobody redditor instead of your reading comprehension? Ok.

5

u/wa27 8h ago

What? No, everyone in this sub-thread is saying he is likely wrong.

I'm confused because I always hold it down and push in the direction I want to sprint in? Do you click the stick in, and then push it in the direction you want to go?

Most games is tap to sprint.

No. They are not. Most are toggle.

1

u/slothxaxmatic 8h ago

No, it is not the default for most games, but there is a setting where you can change it to that in almost every game.

1

u/LordBeans69 7h ago

Most games it’s L3 to toggle sprint and then stop when you let go of the stick

1

u/Used_Return9095 8h ago

I thought so too lol. These comments are making me feel delusional

1

u/presty60 6h ago

Yeah, youre both delusional. I think hold l3 is an option in some games, but if it's default that would be horrendous. Do you not use toggle to sprint???

1

u/Used_Return9095 5h ago

majority of games i’ve played used L3 for sprint lol.

not really no

2

u/Jeremy_Whalen 8h ago

Can't you just change the bindings?

0

u/NewChemistry5210 8h ago

Then you don't play many games lol

95% of video games use L3 to sprint on controller

Tap, not hold

1

u/iPuffOnCrabs 6h ago

Hold was the default for years. Toggle recently became default due to fps games

1

u/MotorPace2637 5h ago

...recently? Like a decade ago?

0

u/Secure-Judgment7829 7h ago

You can choose one or the other usually - I prefer to hold

2

u/MotorPace2637 5h ago

I depise any game with forced hold, its the worst.

1

u/Secure-Judgment7829 5h ago

Why? You’re already holding the stick forward to run you just add more pressure - then to transition to walking you release that pressure

1

u/MotorPace2637 5h ago

Its sooooo much worse and not comfortable for many games and controllers. There is a reason loads of people hate it

9

u/Purple271 8h ago

Re-read that comment again buddy, 99% of videogames do not do that.

10

u/i-race-goats 8h ago

I'm beginning to think a majority of the people in this sub only play GTA5. How is this getting so misconstrued?

3

u/Purple271 8h ago

Its a little baffling to me, how a subreddit full of “gamers” for the most anticipated game in recent history doesnt know a videogame mechanic from 2005 works lmao, i guess either illiterate or too lazy to read

Bunch of larpers!!!

-4

u/QBekka 8h ago

Most of the times those are 1st person games though.

In my recent memory I can't think of any 3rd person game where L3 is sprint. Buttons like R1 are common for running

5

u/cheerbacks 8h ago

If you’ve only played assassins creed maybe

3

u/Talangen 8h ago

I'm currently playing Ghost of Yotei and off the top of my head I can recall Horizon, Star Wars Jedi, Mafia and watchdogs all used L3 to sprint

1

u/Jazzlike-Painting443 8h ago

Resident evil does it

1

u/raventhehippie 8h ago

Helldivers

1

u/Vera_Verse 8h ago

Was it Warhammer Bolt gun? It messed me up, having to hold L3 lol

1

u/ShotMaximum4940 8h ago

I haven't played the new Call of Dutys but the old ones were hold L3 to sprint

1

u/Horror-Pear 8h ago

Weirdly enough, I enjoyed it.

1

u/ShotMaximum4940 7h ago

Maybe but it wears out the joysticks really fast

1

u/Calling_left_final 6h ago

I doubt it too, because in the trailer sometimes you see Jason just doing a light run that would happen in RDR2 when you hold X. That wouldn't fit in to pressing L3.
