I hate this thing so much, useless pile of junk.

So I've noticed there's probably a LOT of nudge Gemini switching happening and the force coming up in a week. I've noticed my incompatible old devices that still run Google Assistant are *much* faster and *much* more responsive, like unbelievably "the good old days" fast, especially my daily summary and first-party home control like my Nest thermostat.

My conspiracy theory is that infrastructure was *fine*, but got way too popular and the software design was hopelessly overburdened and bottlenecked that just throwing hardware at the problem could not solve, so they pivoted to Gemini since that was designed from the ground up for massive scale, and now paradoxically all that load that has been switched has alleviated the GA system, making it actually able to handle the load it was spec'd for. Hopefully get to enjoy this until they turn off the candle on the old devices.

What do you think? Am I off my rocker?

EDIT: I should note asking it to look up *anything* that's not home control now comes back with a "sorry I can't do that dave", even simple recipe searches, making me think they just shut that part off to ease the load even further.

Woke up this morning to every Google home device saying “There was a glitch please try again” or just a spinning loading screen. I’ve power cycled everything but the error is not going away. Internet is working fine and Google home app is still working controlling everything. Any idea what’s going on or how to fix?

Only know about the onn. speakers but since I'm in the EU we don't have it

I have an air conditioner and a radiator in my living room.

When I say "Ok Google, set Living room air conditioner to 21c" it then says "setting two devices to 21c"

Is there a better way to set this?

Not trying to rant but seemingly no one is QA'ing these things at this point. Every single question I can ask across a myriad of devices all results in it saying "I'm sorry I don't understand". I have restarted them, specific phrases like "are you working?" seen to work but largely nothing else does. Is this ecosystem that broken or am I doing something wrong here?

I have set up an alarm type automation on my Google Nest Hub to play a radio station at 6.45 AM. I have noticed lately that the automation doesn't fire on time (usually 2-5 mins late), but today it didn't fire at all.

I use my google home for two things, to turn my smart lights on and off, and play music on a schedule. I am currently unable to play music through automation because it asks me to verify my voice match in the app, which I have. Even if that worked, getting to play a playlist I've made and named something very specific, is its own challenge. Theres no mishearing me since IM LITERALLY TYPING IT IN THE APP.

It's absolutely mind boggling that this app/device has only gotten worse over time, 3 years ago this was no problem, worked every time, now that its "better and smarter than ever" it just straight up refuses to work.

If you work at Google, and work in the Google Assistant department and you happen to read this, I hope you know you suck at your job and whatever you people have been doing to this thing, has only made it worse.

Trying to set up some decently old devices (mini is 6 years old, nest is 3) because I recently moved. They previously worked fine but are now failing to connect in just about every way. The mini can’t connect at all and fails within 5 seconds the nest got to setting up wifi but couldn’t get past that and said that I need to connect to the wifi from the nest but it requires a password I don’t have. Why are both of these devices just not working for different reasons? It’s driving me kind of crazy. Any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Started about two weeks ago. There are 5 lights (exterior) that are part of some automations and have been for a couple years. They all come on and go off some minutes before and after sunrise and sunset daily.

Recently one of the lights comes on 27-38 minutes after they are turned off by an automation or manually. I can't find any reason for it to come on. It's logged in the activity in the Home App. Nothing is triggering it and there are no individual automations for it.

All 5 turned off today at 6:31 It came on by itself at 7:03 I turned it off in the app at 7:25 It turned itself back on at 7:52 It's been on all day.

I unpaired/reset the bulb it's in its native app (Sylvania, got lots of them *shrug) and reconnected it to home. Still comes on. Stupid front porch 2.

Any thoughts?

Setting aside the irony that my phone OS, smart speakers, and mobile carrier are all Google, saying "Hey Google, send a text to ____" near a speaker just fails. Google Home can't send texts, my phone can, and Google apparently can't route the command to the device that's actually capable of executing it.

Has anyone found a way to default voice commands to your Android phone when both devices can hear you? This is the one thing I miss from iPhone: two different wake words meant my phone and my smart home never fought over a command.

When someone presses the doorbell, I'd like my Google Nest access point that's in the living room go off so I can hear it. The issue is, it's also connected to two different Google speakers in two different bedroom upstairs. I don't want the bedrooms to announce when someone is at the door. Where is the setting so I can make sure only the living room access point makes the announcement?

Il y a peu j’ai mis un capteur d’ouverture sur ma fenêtre de la salle de bain, connecté bien évidemment à Google home.

Dans l’application lorsque la fenêtre est ouverte celle ci s’affiche en bleu avec écrit 100% et lorsqu’elle est fermé c’est plus en bleu et c’est écrit 0%.

Et donc je demande à Gemini "Quel est l’état de la fenêtre de la salle bain ? "ou "Est ce que la fenêtre de la salle de bain est ouverte? " et celle ci me répond: “Je ne peux pas voir et je n’ai pas la faculté de contrôler les appareils connectés de votre maison domestique"
Alors qu’elle sait très bien allumer les prises connectés.

Et donc j’ai tester un automatisme pour me prévenir quand la fenêtre de la salle de bain est ouverte. Et elle y arrive très bien.
Donc ce qui signifie que Google home sait bien quand le capteur est sur le mode ouvert ou fermé.
Et le problème repose sur Gemini.

Bref, j’espère qu’une mise à jour sera vite déployé pour se problème qui est le comble pour une assistante IA Domotique.
Surtout pour Google Home.

Donc honnêtement je sais pas trop ce que font les ingénieurs dans le secteur de la domotique chez Google mais je pense que du trie va devoir être fait.
J’ai plutôt l’impression qu’un paquet du personnel se tourne les pousses au lieu de se mettre au boulot.
Apres c’est peut être qu’une simple impression.

Hi all!

I held out on buying the Google Nest Mini's, because I was told a new one was around the corner. Reading the reviews though, I'm hesitant for the new Google Home, and it seems the Nest Mini isn't available anymore.

Is the newest Google Speaker the only one available, or are there alternatives to go for? (I realize I'm asking in the google home sub)

I currently use Phillips Hue bridge pro and Govee, and would like to control them both with voice at the same time (If possible)

What are my options, if anyone has experience with these two brands together?

Hey everyone, I've been using Gemini for Home here in Germany for a few weeks/months now and I think it's really cool overall. It's definitely a huge update, one I've been waiting for for a long time. For my purposes, I currently only have two smart home lights, a TV, and a Nest Hub, so I don't have a huge network or anything. That's probably why I haven't experienced the problems some people are describing.

Anyway, all in all, as I said, I'm extremely happy with it, and Gemini is definitely a much-needed update, even if it's still far from perfect. It works so much more conveniently, easily, and, above all, more pleasantly now.

One thing that bothers me a little is the Gemini app. I can set up custom instructions and memory settings—basically, information on how it should react, what it knows about me, information about my settings, and my preferences—so I can perfectly tailor my Gemini on my phone to my needs. It's just a relaxed, chilled-out way of writing, not so uptight.

However, as far as I know, that's not possible with Gemini for Home, or at least I don't know how. It seems that Gemini for Home's memory resets itself after a few minutes. I think I read somewhere that it was extended to 15 minutes. But if I say something like, "Please be a little more relaxed, be a bit more chilled out, and not so uptight," or even basic things about myself that might be interesting or important for later conversations, things I don't want to have to repeat when I tell her to remember something, she'll have forgotten everything by the next day or even in a few hours. This means I can't use Gemini on my Nest Hub to the same extent on my Home as I can in the app. Is there perhaps some trick one can use to make Gemini for Home not always respond so formally and robotically, but rather in a nice, human, relaxed way, like a friendly colleague or friend?

This dry, boring tone might be cool for some, but I find it very oppressive and not very pleasant. Even if it's not as crucial as with the app, where you can have some animal-free conversations, it would still be a significant factor in making me feel more comfortable. As I said, the functionality is all good, but it would be nice if you could at least influence Gemini's personality a little. So far, I haven't found a way to make Gemini a bit more relaxed for Home.

Every night when I go to run my bedtime routine, the play button is crossed out and I need to save the automation routine to enable it. Any idea why this is happening?

So, I use the Google Home app to turn various outlets and lights in my apartment on and off.

However, for a little over a week now, I’ve had a problem: whenever I tap the app or simply open Google Home on my phone, it takes ages for the app to be ready to use.

Even when using the phone's quick-access shortcuts—where I just swipe down once and tap "Home"—it takes minutes for everything to launch and become operational. What’s causing this?

This has only been happening for a few days. I’ve already cleared the cache, closed and restarted the app, and even restarted my phone. Yet, the app still takes forever.

I've had a Google home since 2019 because I could sync my uni lectures and ask Google what was going on that day.

Came home from uni, got smart lights, it became part of the furniture. As of recent the Google home says it can't recognise my voice and if I want to do certain things I need to go into the app and set it to recognise my voice.

I've not taken any vocal altering medication

Kinda wild. I know how to fix it just seems bizarre it's happening
