Question 🤔 Google Photos crashes when I choose out-of-sync
My Google Photos is full (I realize that's also Google Drive and Gmail) so I went through and cleaned up all sorts of photos I don't need (throwaway stuff that's always too much work to review). Got it from 15GB to 11GB on Windows.
Android app prompted to review out-of-sync changes. Obviously I wanted to do that, but when I tried on it Google Photos went away. It's happened over and over and my so is up to date. Is there something common causing this?
Also it went from 11GB back up to 15.9GB and I can't figure out why. Too a few photos but that's all. I'm in the process of "moving" some of the not-deleted photos to a different Google account, which I think can only be done by downloading then uploading?
Thanks

Question 🤔 Album Issues
Is anyone else having issues with uploaded albums?
I uploaded a large album, the upload "seemed" successful.
The count shows about 600 rather than the correct 4000 or so.
It's been about 24 hours and only a partial amount appears in the album.
I can see the new photos in the Photo Section, but not in the album?
Any thoughts or guidance?
Should I delete and re-upload or will it populate in a few days?

Question 🤔 camera files are disappearing
Is anybody else having problems with locally saved photos disappearing from their Pixel phone DESPITE every setting that would allow the phone to auto-manage file storage after the cloud backup being DISABLED???
I triple-checked G-Photos & G-Files; it definitely wasn't me who deleted or moved pictures that exist in the cloud but no longer on my phone. I do a manual monthly backup via usb. I also pay for the G-One 2 TB plan for it to also save my camera files.
The first time I became aware of this was in July, when I realized that my phone was missing all photos from the first half of June. Now, I'm missing some photos from the start of August. The respective gaps seem to be from a whole timeframe; not random singular pictures/videos here and there.
I went ahead and painstakingly downloaded the missing pictures from June back onto my phone; they showed up in the 'Restored' folder for a little while — before they disappeared from there AGAIN. WTF???????
I'm positively livid and mistrusting of my phone. No other apparent technical issues with the device itself whatsoever. I have no interest in using Gemini and limited it as much as I could; I have a hunch that this is somehow linked to the last update.
Is there any way I can fix this?!

Bug 🐞 Support/ideas requested... Cloud photos won't show up in app account
Hi, I'm encountering a strange vexing issue:
- Yesterday, I took some photos on a digital camera, and uploaded them to my Google Photos account on the cloud. When I visit the Google Photos website, they appear in my photo stream.
- On my Android device (Galaxy S26), yesterday's photos do NOT appear in the photo stream, for the same account. Photos from earlier in the month show up, photos taken on the phone today show up, but not yesterday's photos
I have tried:
- Disable/re-enable Google Photos app (can't truly uninstall because Google Photos is included bloatware on this non-rooted device)
- Disable/enable backup in Google Photos app
- In the app, ensure backup while roaming is enabled, backup on mobile data unlimited usage is enabled, ensure Google Photos is not subject to Samsung/Android system level Data Saver or sleep or battery optimization
- Clear Photos app data and cache
- Delete a photo from trash, move a photo to the locked folder, share a link to the missing photos from the web to the phone, take a new phone photo and perform a backup, all trying to trigger the phone to re-sync with the cloud
None of these things helped fix the missing day photos on my phone which appear on my Google Photos web stream for the same account. I have not yet tried logging out of that Google account on my phone, because it's my main account, and it'll be a pain to log back in to all the apps that use it.
Has anyone encountered this or has any ideas that might help? I can't find many similar reports or resolutions when I Google this, and Gemini AI just gives all that generic advice of the steps I tried already. Thanks in advance.

Troubleshooting ⚠️ Why doesn't Google Photos download certain Collections to my new phone?
I have certain Collections on my old phone based on my pets or a trip I took that don't appear on my new phone. I'm not having luck figuring out how to download those collections, so any advise would be great

Question 🤔 Google photos and third party apps not cooperating
Helluuu,
This question has probably already been asked a few times, but I'm asking to see if anyone has found a solution yet...
Got a message on my phone that I don't have a lot of storage space left, so I uploaded all my pictures and videos (that weren't already uploaded) to the Google-cloud-thingy. The Google Photos app works just like it's supposed to, but third party apps like messenger and Instagram won't sort the pictures in chronological order anymore, unless I choose the Google Photos folder manually. It's not a big problem, but it's insanely annoying, and it makes me want to download the pictures and videos again...

Question 🤔 Mis fotos no aparecen

Troubleshooting ⚠️ Number of deleted photos not matching photos in trash
When I move photos to the trash, the count doesn't match what I've deleted.
For example, if I multi-select 525 items to send to the trash, I'll end up with 526 when I go to the trash folder. The trash was completely empty previously.
Can someone help explain this?
I'm doing a physical backup of all my photos and don't know if I'm somehow missing files.

Question 🤔 Images come out blurry when downloading from my google photos to my iPhone
I had a car show yesterday and took a bunch of photos on my photography camera that I ended up transferring over via my computer and backing them up to my google photos on the web browser.
The issue I am having is when I press the download button when I’m on my phone it goes into my iPhone photos but is making them super blurry.
If anyone knows a fix for this that would be great as I would like to upload to social media.
I’ve attached the photo I’ve downloaded plus a SS of what I see on google photos.
Thanks

Troubleshooting ⚠️ Google Photos shared albums: how to confirm everything was saved?
I’m sharing large Google Photos albums with a friend, ranging from about 1,000 to 5,000 photos.
He can see all photos in the shared album, but when he clicks Save photos, the numbers seem unreliable. For example, it may say:
Save 400 photos, 3,299 already saved
Then an hour later, those numbers change completely. After waiting 6–8 hours, they change again.
We also tried the web version. There, it doesn’t show any counts. The Save photos button is active, and after clicking it, it just becomes greyed out.
How can we reliably confirm that every photo in the shared album has actually been saved to his Google Photos library?
Do large albums need several hours to finish indexing before clicking Save? And does a greyed-out Save button on the web mean everything is safely saved?
Thanks!

News 📰 Restoring permanently deleted photos from Google Photos
Hey guys just wanted to show you guys how to restore photos you've permantly deleted by mistake or maybe by clicking the Free up space and not fully understanding what the function did. I spent maybe an hour crying last night because I deleted over 400 photos during my holiday because I misred a warning until I found this!!
(However, I think photos can only be restored within a 21 or 25 day window though 🫠)

Hope this works for everyone!!

Troubleshooting ⚠️ Memories in Google Photos aren't working.
Memories don't work at all. I have everything enabled, all the sliders are on, and sometimes collages or stylized photos from recent photos appear, but nothing from years ago, etc. I have a Google AI Pro subscription, so there are no storage issues.
I contacted Google support, reindexed the gallery by deleting photo groups, viewed it from a browser, etc., and nothing helped.

Question 🤔 What is wrong here?
Have been having issues with photos backing up to Google account ever since I got S26. As you can see from pics, I have it backing up to a different Google account as opposed to account my photo app is signed into. I’ve always done this and it worked previously on old phone. In 2nd pic back up is on and all folders to be backed up. Despite these settings, still not backing up. Is there something else I should be checking pls?

Question 🤔 Help with transferring photos from iCloud Photos to Google Photos
Hi!
I’m planning to leave the iPhone ecosystem and buy a Pixel 11 Pro. I currently have my entire photo library stored with Apple, with just over 14,000 photos and more than 400 videos.
A while ago, I requested a transfer of my entire iCloud Photos library to Google Photos using Apple’s data transfer service.
The transfer has now completed, but I’ve discovered a problem: photos that don’t have EXIF metadata containing the original date have been assigned today’s date (August 30, 2026) in Google Photos.
These seem to mainly be downloaded images and photos I received through apps such as Messenger. The strange thing is that these photos have the correct date in Apple Photos/iCloud, even though the actual image files don’t contain an EXIF date.
It affects roughly 1,000 photos.
I can manually change the date in Google Photos, which puts the photos in the correct position in the timeline. However, the original EXIF metadata still appears to be missing.
What is the easiest way to fix this?
I’d really prefer not to download my entire photo library to my Chromebook and manually edit the metadata.
I’m therefore considering another approach:
If I select “Download and Keep Originals” for iCloud Photos on my iPhone and then, once I get my Pixel 11 Pro, let the Pixel transfer the photos directly from the iPhone, will the dates shown in Apple Photos be transferred as well?
Or will I run into the same problem again — i.e. will photos that don’t have an EXIF date be assigned today’s date in Google Photos, even though Apple Photos shows the correct date?
I’d really appreciate any advice on how to solve this in the easiest way possible without having to manually go through around 1,000 photos.

Troubleshooting ⚠️ Google photos stuck on "setting up your library"
I’ve got the exact same version gphotos installed in both my main profile and work profile. Main profile works 100% fine. But the app in work profile logs into my account fine, but gets permanently stuck on "Setting up your library" and the main timeline stays completely empty.
The crazy part is sometimes if I go to the search tab inside the app and search for photo, my backed-up photo actually pop up there. They just refuse to load into the main gallery view.
Already tried toggling face grouping off, clearing cache/data, fixing all file permissions, and nuking 0-byte files according to Gemini, but nothing fixes it.
Help😭

Question 🤔 Changed from original to storage saver and then back again, now my backup is 7gb larger
So I changed from original quality uploads to storage saver last week. Last night I changed my mind and switched it back to original quality. I had maybe taken four or five photos since changing.
After switching back to original quality, my phone reuploaded every photo and video from the last four years, and now my backup went from 20gb to 27gb.
I thought it only affected uploads going forward? And how/why has my backup ballooned in size?

Extension 🔗 Live Photo Tools
Hi redditors! I created two small macOS apps that carry motion photos across the Android/iPhone divide instead of flattening them into ordinary stills.
I wanted other people who care about preserving their memories to be able to move their libraries without leaving that behind.
I published it on Github for anyone looking to do the same:

Question 🤔 Different quality?
Does anyone know if this is simply a bug? I’ve been using an OG Pixel to upload my photos to the cloud and I noticed that on the pixel it says original quality but when looking at that same picture on my main device it says storage saver. Seems to be the case for all the images I look at on my main phone.

Question 🤔 Pixel 1 + iPhone 13
Hi everyone,
I recently bought a Google Pixel 1 to use for unlimited Google Photos backups, but I’m still trying to find the best setup.
So far, I’ve only tried PhotoSync, and unfortunately it hasn’t worked as well as I hoped. I was considering using SyncThing, but I’ve read that it can drain the battery quite a bit, so I’m not sure if that’s the best option.
For context, my main phone is an iPhone.
Are there any better alternatives or setups that you would recommend?
I’m willing to pay someone who has experience with this if they can help me get everything configured properly.
Thanks in advance!
