In PoA, a knife-wielding Sirius Black had just broken into the castle…into the very dorm where Harry is sleeping. Professor McGonagle is disbelieving at first, but shakily accepts this truth when Sir Cadagon proudly states that the intruder had passwords for the whole week.

An absolutely livid Professor McGonagle turns to the crowd of Gryffindor’s and asks “which person, which abysmally foolish person wrote the entire weeks worth of passwords and left them lying around?”

Neville, trembling from head to bunny-slippered toe raises his hand. Oof. I would have been too paralyzed to move in that exact moment. That boy truly belongs in Gryffindor.

I’ve been listening to the new full-cast audiobooks, and it’s basically become my seventh reread of the series. I’m on Deathly Hallows now, and listening to the books this way has honestly made me appreciate the franchise as a whole even more.

I feel like Harry Potter fans sometimes get divided into camps: people who are extremely loyal to the books, people who love the movies and don’t think we need another adaptation, and people who would rather get completely new Wizarding World stories.

And I understand all of those perspectives, but I’m personally just happy we have so many options.

If you want every detail, subplot, character moment, and piece of worldbuilding, you can read the books. If you don’t want to physically read them, the audiobooks, especially the full-cast versions, are incredibly immersive.

Then we have the movies, which obviously cut and changed a LOT, but they also created so much of the visual identity we associate with Harry Potter today. Hogwarts, the robes, the wands, Diagon Alley, the music, the atmosphere, even the theme parks, so much of that imagery comes from those films.

And now we’re getting the HBO series, which hopefully gives us a much more detailed adaptation while also creating its own version of the world. And even this show might not adapt everything from the books.

That’s what excites me most. I don’t want the show to just recreate the movies, but I also don’t think it needs to completely reject everything they established visually. I want new interpretations, new sets, new actors, and finally getting to see characters and storylines the movies didn’t have time for.

Give me more Ginny. More Hogwarts classes. The Quidditch seasons. SPEW. Ron’s full personality. Harry being sarcastic. Hermione being brilliant but also flawed. Let the supporting characters actually exist.

And none of that makes me love the movies any less.

I’m excited to eventually see people making edits of both Movie Hermione and TV Hermione simply because they love Hermione Granger, not because one version has to “beat” the other.

That’s basically how I feel about Harry Potter now. I love the books, I love the movies, I’m loving the audiobooks, and I’m excited for the TV series.

Of course I still want new stories too: Marauders, the First Wizarding War, different eras of Hogwarts, etc.

Sometimes fandom gets so focused on which version is the “correct” Harry Potter that we forget how cool it is that we now have so many different ways to experience the same world.

I'm re-reading Deathly Hallows, and it's the part where Kreature starts cleaning and cooking nice meals for the three of them (presumably eating some himself as well).

Assuming he apparates near a wizard shop, and assuming there was pocket money around or Harry gave him some, wouldn't someone notice he was suddenly looking nice and buying a lot more food?

Before anyone says that the movie cast shouldn’t be in the series period, I do agree, I’m just talking about a one-scene fun little reference, nothing recurring. I think the new cast should have the chance to make it their own without being in the shadow of the movie cast. They don’t need to show up at all, I wouldn’t be disappointed.

That said, if I were to try to find a tasteful way to have them appear, it would be very quick, barely any speaking lines. The only ones I could think a a good thematic cameo don’t involve any dialogue at all, which I think is good.

Does anyone have any fun ideas for how the movie cast could show up for a fun reference?

As far as I understand, Voldemort is applying for this position knowing that Dumbledore is going to say no.He does it solely to have an excuse to go to Hogwarts and to hide the Ravenclaw diadem.

Was his ego wounded? Wouldn't it have been wiser not to do it, so he could later infiltrate a Death Eater himself using the Imperius Curse? Or was it accidental magic, like Lily's protection spell?

In GoF Fudge dismisses the return of Voldemort, then proceeds to ridicule and persecute Harry throughout OotP.

In PoA Fudge actually has his head on straight regarding Voldy, as shown by this conversation in the three broomsticks:

Fudge originally did believe that Voldemort would rise again. But I guess when it finally happened, it was too real for Fudge and his cowardly colors showed.

I don’t understand why Warner Bros didn’t do a better job advertising Harry Potter being back in theaters. I only found out through a random Reddit post. It’s so many people who would like to see the movies back in the theaters but they don’t know. I’ve seen five of the movies OotP only 5 people, GoF only 6 people, and Philosopher’s Stone had the most 20 people. Maybe for the 30th anniversary they’ll do a better job at advertising.

I apologize in advance if this has been discussed to death eater, as I’m sure I’m not the only one who has noticed this.

If Barty Crouch Jr. was trying to kill Harry off by entering him in a highly dangerous competition, that would at least make sense, but it’s not.

The plan is to stage an entire multinational, year-long tournament, enter Harry in such tournament, surreptitiously guide him through it, avoiding great danger, all while drinking Polyjuice Potion for an entire year, JUST to get Harry in the Riddle graveyard for Voldy’s resurrection?

Does anyone else find this to be WAY more complicated than it needs to be? BCJ can just turn Harry’s broomstick into a portkey on Day 1, and that’ll suffice. They already have everything else they need for the sacrifice!

Does the potion need an entire year to brew? And even if it did why not make the portkey at the end of an otherwise normal school year? And if the answer is “to avoid suspicision”, that’ll happen regardless. Is Voldemort concerned that people won’t know that’s he’s back and has killed Harry?

Again, I’m sure this has been discussed, but I just think of any way around it.

I still love the book and movie.

i read the half-blood prince as soon as it was released, and remember being so fascinated by the discovery of the horcruxes, the history of tom riddle and his family, the mystery of the half-blood prince, and also ginny being a badass on the quidditch team. so, you can imagine my excitement for the movie, and my disappointment when i saw they had turned the best harry potter book into a bunch of affairs and jokes, like a romcom. i also didn't like the color filter used throughout the entire film, i think it made the viewing experience unnecessarily tiring. i mean, you don't need a heavy color filter to make a dark movie, you just need a serious script that does justice to the book. anyway, all these things annoy me whenever i watch it, because it was always my favorite harry potter book and, in my opinion, the most disappointing film.

I did wonder how other countries would have dealt with voldermort, as while yes narratively we only really get to see Britain and voldermort made some mistakes but there was a lot against him in Britain between harry connection,dumbledore himself,hogwarts and snape betrayal so without those things helping against voldermort could other countries actually been able to beat him (able to recruit inside the other countries aswell)

so I have recently been into percy jackson, and I have become a huge fan. As for Harry Potter, I am a die-hard fan, and for as long as I can remember

ever since I finished the first book: lightning theif, I have seen so many common things between these two stories

Of course, I have heard people say that Harry Potter and percy jackson are so similar, and since I am reading it, I can definitely see it

I made a list of the things I found similar between PERCY JACKSON AND THE LIGHTNING THIEF AND HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERER'S STONE

1. Percy with gabe, Harry with Dursley Both have an abusive relative they have to live with. However, Harry had a lot worse. At least percy had his mother

2. Harry and percy are the sassiest icons Although I have to say percy is way more sassier than Harry

3. Harry's trio with ron and hermione, while percy's with annabeth and grover

4. also not to mention how Harry and Ron first became friends then met hermione just like how percy and grover were first friends then met annabeth( from percy's pov) although I know that grover already knew annabeth, I would like to think they became better friends after being together on a Quest

5. the story mostly revolves around a single object, the lightning bolt, and the sorcerer's stone.

6. ceberus and fluffy

7. both are three-headed dogs!! but I will have to agree that ceberus is more dangerous.

8. Both are half blood.

9. but with different definitions, somehow similar like with one god and mortal parents and one wizard and a muggleborn (so it's kind of similar bcz there are many exeption in Harry Potter through which u can be halfblood).

10. Chiron as dumbledore I think as story progress, u can see how chiron has similar vibes, but dumbledore got more aura.

12. I think for annabeth it makes sense, since she is a daughter of athena and also street smart unlike hermione who is more irritate at times( dont hate me for this) and academically bookish smart ( but both are incredibly smart).

13. Grover being hungry like MOVIE Ron ( don't hate me at this either). I mean, we all know grover was more foodie than annabeth and percy bcz he was a Goat.

14. Clarisse and malfoy being a bully( keep in mind I am talking about the first book)

15. both Harry and percy thought they were ordinary until being introduced to the whole new world they belong too.

My friend is reading HP for the first time, never seen the movies either. She’s on HBP now, and is currently convinced that the prince is Tom Riddle. She’s about halfway through the book, around the Christmas chapter. I was wondering, did anyone realize that the prince was Snape before he revealed it? Or did you have any other guesses to the identity of the prince?

Hagrid loved Harry like a son, which makes the raw, shell-shocked grief on his face as he carries Harry's limp body one of the most emotionally devastating moments.

Im re-reading Ootp and Ron just got his badge. Harry got envy and i was wondering what would've changed if was him instead of Ron.

Of course Ron is son of Molly, but she always treat Harry like one of her sons, you seem that in the same book, when she faces the boggart. I know she would celebrate and everything, but may she dislike that was Harry and not Ron? Or she would really treat like she treated Ron, offering to buy him a gift?

Was thinking of this today.

Rowling said in an interview that Arthur Weasley was originally supposed to die in Order of the Phoenix after being attacked by Nagini. She ultimately decided to let him live because there were so few genuinely good fathers in the series. Because Arthur survived, Lupin and Tonks ended up dying during the Battle of Hogwarts.

So if you could choose between the two outcomes, which would you pick?

Would you keep the story as it is, with Arthur surviving and Lupin and Tonks dying? Or would you have Arthur die in Order of the Phoenix and let Lupin and Tonks survive the Battle of Hogwarts?

I probably choose Arthur survive still, but it is a tough choice i think.

I'm really keen to write an original character who grew up in Tom Riddle's environment and is perhaps somewhat close to him (or perhaps they hate each other). I'd love to hear your thoughts on what you think would change about Tom if he'd grown up with a sister maybe two years older or so, or a younger one! I'm still undecided.

So in case any of you guys are unaware or forgotten or haven’t been in the loop among many scrapped plot lines of the Harry Potter books this is a specific one. Jk Rowling had revealed that there was going to a character that was thought to be a muggle who had never done their magic life and spent it being normal but later in life was going to discover that they were magical and were a wizard/witch. After awakening their dormant magic they were then going to be taken to Hogwarts for protection. We don’t know who it was going to be. But most people seem to theorize that it was most likely going to be either Petunia or Dudley. Dudley would definitely have leaned into the young coming of age theme in the books, but honestly i think it would’ve been more interesting if it was Petunia. Like from the perspective of an adult character who’s already fully grown finding out about this years after she was even supposed to is interesting. Plus given het backstory itd be interesting to see how this changed the story and dynamics. I know it probably wouldn’t have fit into the storyline. But you can’t help but wonder. Anyways what do you guys think of this scrapped plotline. Do you like it or not what potential could have seen? How do you think there was a way they could have possibly made it work?

So, as we know, Lily’s sacrifice is why Harry has the scar on his forehead. But let’s say, when Molly duelled Bellatrix, that Bellatrix had actually managed to hit Molly with a killing curse. Wouldn’t that have basically been the same thing that happened to Harry? Wouldn’t the curse have rebounded onto Bellatrix, and given Molly a scar?

In Goblet of Fire it was talked about how their school work increased dramatically and that Snape had given them homework to practice antidotes. Snape said that he'd be poisoning them next lesson

We all know damn well that Snape would definitely poison Harry first lol
