Flair Fun!

Flair is enabled. I've kept it simple by creating a generic flair called "Hasselblad 500cm" the OG!! But if you select the flair you can edit it to show which hassy you own. Feel free to humblebrag your hasselblad gear so we know what you're shooting!

Be honest!! You don't get internet points for bullshitting people! LOL

Also, I believe if you use new reddit (I don't, I'm old and grumpy!) you can add your contributor flair as well. If you're one of the community's top contributors, make sure you're repping that too!

Thank you for your attention in this matter!

buy/sell Buy/Sell Posts: Crosspost from r/photomarket only. No exceptions

Hi guys.

The discussion thread about buy/sell posts was fairly conclusive. The majority of those who contributed to the discussion wanted any posts that are about buying and selling gear to be crossposts from /r/photomarket. The view is that the photomarket community has a strong vetting process and scamming is much less likely. They're a proper buy/sell community and therefore safer.

In line with this community's decision, we are instituting a rule that anyone who wants to sell their Hasselblad gear MUST post it to /r/photomarket and then crosspost it here. Reddit does have a simple crosspost feature, so this should not be a problem.

In keeping with protecting our own community, do not post buy/sell threads here directly. Do not post threads with "thinking of selling" or dropping sell hints. We will view this as trying to circumvent the above rule and will just ban you ... if you're trying to circumvent, you're trying to hide something. So ban hammer! Not gonna listen to "oh, sorry didn't know" ... yeah, "sorry, you're still banned".

Could the community please ensure they are reporting buy/sell posts that aren't crossposts so that we can make sure that potential scammers are deleted.

Link to discussion thread here:

https://old.reddit.com/r/hasselblad/comments/1t62wk4/hassy_users_lets_talk_about_buysell_posts/

Just wanted to say thank you to those in the community who contributed to the discussion and helped decide a way forward. You guys rock!

PS Feel free to use the flair (edit as you see fit) to tell us what gear you have ... humble brag!! but also helps us know who might be using similar gear when discussions happen. We also have 4 simple post flairs (Photos, Camera Gear, Help me!, Buy/Sell) ... feel free to use those too!

I got it wrong about HNCS šŸ˜€

A couple of weeks back I got a question from one of my blog subscribers about HNCS. I didn't have the answer so back down that rabbit hole I went. Again. And discovered that not only did I get it wrong about what HNCS is, I was also asking the wrong questions.

The short version: According to Hasselblad engineering (August 2026), HNCS is applied to every RAW render in both Phocus for Mac and Phocus Mobile, as an internal processing stage linked to white balance. No preset or import state "is" HNCS. My 9 August claim that default Mac imports aren't HNCS is therefore wrong, and has been retracted; the measured gap is vignetting correction.

You can read the entire saga here.

Long time Sony shooter

Post image

I’m a long time Sony shooter who took the plunge and bought a 907x/CVF100c a few months back. I was having a lot of regret because I just can’t seem to use the system and feel like I’m much more comfortable/capable with my Sony. I forced myself to take it out to a shoot yesterday and use it with a strobe… and wow the photos are just extraordinary. I can’t really put my finger on what it is but the photos looked great. Not sure if it’ll become my go to but I’m so excited to shoot it more and in studio as well.

3M Adhesive Remover any good?

Post image
2 Upvotes

The leather on my 503CW has shrunk and started peeling. I saw that alcohol and some scraping may be required to fully remove the old adhesive before I can put on new leather. I want to reduce if not eliminate physically scraping the camera in fear of scratching the camera, I was wondering if the 3M Adhesive Remover can be used? Picture is for general reference only.

Hi all, any idea where the best place to purchase the Hasselblad Earth Explorer kit for the Find X9 Ultra would be please?

I was hoping it'd be on the Oppo site but it's not (or I can't find it) TIA

Pete.

My X2DII has been nothing but problems for me, and I’m not sure what to do about it

back in March, I took the leap and decided it was time to pull the trigger on the X2DII- I was so exited to be shooting medium format digital, and having access to the legendary hassleblad glass and color science was just too much for me to pass up on. It was time to upgrade

Well, there were a few things I was right about- the lenses are incredible, I love the what the leaf shutter adds to my toolbox, and my god they are tack sharp. The way it renders colors is just to die for, too. The massive sensor is just an absolute marvel of technology too- I can’t believe how far digital cameras have come since I began my photography journey 20 years ago

That being said, the camera itself kind of sucks? Occasionally I can get it to autofocus, but like, whatever, it’s medium format and it’s manual focus helpers are really cool, slow down and always use a tripod, no big deal. the bokeh out of my XCD lens is amazing, so being super intentional about it frankly isn’t the worst idea. I shoot in manual, right? Why not manual focus. It’ll be fine

Well, about shooting in manual- when I have it set to manual, and move the aperture roller clicky thing on the grip, sometimes it will also change the shutter speed to maintain the ā€œcorrectā€ exposure. I do not want or need that sort of assistance, I do not shoot in shutter or aperture priority ever with a medium format camera. Sometimes I can fix this by going into aperture priority, and then back to manual, sometimes it requires a hard reset by taking the battery out, sometimes I have to reset it to factory settings. But I can get it to shoot in manual mode when I really try to. Kind of sucks, but whatever, so long as I can tell the thing what to do and it does it eventually, all will be fine. Still seems like a lot of work I shouldn’t have to worry about, but whatever, at least they make it easy to see your settings in two different places

Well, about that- a few weeks ago my top screen when completely black. I tried going into settings and changing the top screen brightness, but neither of the rolly clicky things on the handle do anything. At least it can confirm that with the cool haptic feedback the camera gives. That screen is just toast. Whatever, it was a redundant screen anyway, I’ll be fine

Well, about that haptic feedback- it only works some of the time, and really isnt something I can reliably reproduce by doing the same action. Whatever, I’ve made it this far without a vibrating camera, I’ll be fine

After spending 11 thousand dollars on one camera and one lens, I just can’t believe how much ā€œwhatever, I’ll be fineā€ I have to do with this thing. The sensor and the glass is the only thing keeping me from saying this thing just is a flat out terrible camera. Granted, Those are two of the most important things about cameras, but, has anyone else here kind of found that the X2DII kind of sucks?

Also, does anyone have an idea of how to fix any of this? All my firmware is up to date, and I’ve tried everything I can think of, and even reached out to B&H, which is where I bought the camera from, but they told me to go to hassleblad themselves. I hesitate because I know that means I won’t have my very expensive thing for god knows how long, but I am running out of ideas at this point

How good are Hasselblad H series cameras at scanning film?

I have a Hasselblad H3Dii 39 and Nikon Zf, both without macro lens yet. I really don't like the Hassy and want to sell it because of bad dynamic range, but everytime I keep telling myself I can use it for film scanning because of the larger sensor. I wonder if anyone has used that Hasselblad for scanning, and how good are the old CCD H series cameras compared with modern full frame CMOS cameras in terms of film scanning? Thanks a lot for your information!

907x OVF for 903SWC

Am i calculating this correctly, the 38mm Biogon is equivalent to 26mm on the CFV back. So i would need 26mm frame lines in the OVF if i shoot the digital back?
The latest OVF has 28mm , would i be off if i leave myself a bit more space around my subject?

CF 135 lens

Anyone using this for outdoor macro work? Looking at capturing insects and by the same token, maybe look at scanning negatives/reversal film . I can try the bellows with both my 120 and my 135. Anyone else scanning with it?

Compact light meter for 500cm?

I've seen some pretty cool compact light meters that fit into the hotshoe but since this camera doesn't have one, what are some alternatives? I prefer not to have to carry my seikonic with me nor do rough estimating using sunny 16.

Digital back question from a first time owner

Hey there,

I've got a Hasselblad H5D-40 with a 50–110mm f/3.5–4.5 lens. However, I recently discovered a couple of rows of dead pixels on the sensor.

I'm just wondering whether it's worth using this opportunity to upgrade to an H5D-50 with the larger CCD sensor, or if I should just buy another 40MP digital back, which is also a lot easier to find on eBay.

Unless, of course, it would be cheaper to repair the sensor than buy another one!
