So one thing Ive noticed more and more lately is that a lot of restaurants are now charging a 3% credit card fee. It's happened at 4 places Ive been too recently. Not only that but they don't disclose it anywhere in the restaurant or menu. All 4 of the times I didnt find out until I got my receipt after I paid.

I guess the fancy new digs didn’t take. A friend hosting an event at Cyclone Anaya’s on Westheimer got an email yesterday that the location has closed as of August 31.

Grabbed an everything bagel with scallion cream cheese over the weekend. Was pretty good, but it didn't knock my socks off. If I lived near Bagel Bob's (spring branch), I could see adding this spot to the semi-regular rotation. But it's a bit of a haul for me, and Hot Bagel Shop is nearer and better (although, in fairness, I'd want to try more bagels at Bob's before drawing a final conclusion on this).

Bob's also does a selection of deli sandwiches and desserts - I didn't try them, so can't comment. The black and white cookie did look awfully tempting, tho. :)

Worth stopping by if you're in the area.

All I have to say is WOW. We had to book about three weeks in advance, and it was SO worth the wait. I highly recommend adding Nancy’s Hustle to your Houston restaurant list.

Everything we ordered was great, but the off-menu coconut milk crème brûlée was easily one of the highlights. I’m still thinking about it lol

Definitely one of those places where I understood the hype after going. Excited to try their sister restaurant soon

affordably this filipino matcha cereal in Houston. It is KONU Mini Krunch Cereal Jar in Matcha Crunch flavor. They have a jar of 160g and 360g. I'd look for 360g but if not then 160g 😂

They are located on Little York Road and appear to be an upscale bakery doing laminates such as croissants and puff pastry desserts. One person said they’re as expensive as Love’s. Went by on Saturday but the line was really long. Had me scratching my head as this is not a neighborhood where people may have a large disposable income. Has anyone been? Is it expensive? Are the pastries terrific? What were your observations respective of what people were ordering and paying?

Me and my wife are planning to try Chinese hot pot for the first time specifically sichuan hot pot, where can I find the best place here in Houston, I have seen a place called old alley hot pot but I’m not sure how good or bad it is.

Anyone else noticed the taste is different or is it just me?

Does anybody know where to get some good Nigerian jollof rice? I got some for the first time yesterday from osuma suya and it was really good I loved it but they just don’t give you enough for what you pay, it was 7$ for a small rectangle container and they didn’t even fill it to the top. So is there any spot that gives you a good amount for a good price that taste just as good or better than osuma suya?

Can't get enough of this mixture - escabeche? I know Taco Joint has it as a fixin but I wanted to buy a jar of this. Thanks!

My wife and I visited yesterday. She ordered the turkey with pan de elote and mac and cheese, I ordered the brisket with marinated tomatoes and potato salad.

I loved the sides except for the potato salad. It had great color and texture, but was disappointingly bland, especially when compared to the rest of the meal.

I debated ordering a second helping of the pan de elote and once I was home, I regretted not doing so. In 30 years of eating Houston BBQ, I never remember enjoying anybody's mac and cheese as much as I did this one. The marinated tomatoes are as good as everybody says they are.

Until yesterday I was never a fan of smoked turkey from BBQ joints. It was always too salty and the texture reminded me of anything but bird. Willow's rewrote that for me. Both the texture and taste were fantastic.

The best part of the meal was the brisket. I had them mix moist and dry. It had great bark, great texture and was perfectly spiced. Plus, it had just the right amount of fat. They offered BBQ sauce to go with it, but it definitely didn't need it.

We went early on a Saturday and the inside was already full. The two plates plus a cider and an iced tea was $74 with tip (ouch). That seemed high, but given how much food prices have shot up over the past year, I guess it's comparable to other spots. I'm old enough to remember when BBQ in Houston was relatively cheap and those days are long gone. (nostalgic sigh)

Price aside, we will happily return.

People who move here from places like New York and Chicago love to talk down about Houston pizza. It's one of those annoying behaviors that transplants like myself are never able to shake. Unfortunately, 90% of what passes for pizza here deserves all the hate it gets.

Eastwood Station felt like somebody decided to make an honest stand against all that hate. Their Roman style pizza is a full-throated, chest-pounding, grab the mic and call out your opponent statement. And, unlike some other places (pointing at Coltivare) it didn't try to pretend that it was haute cuisine. Simple ingredients, prepared well, served promptly and priced just right.

The pasta Bolognese was damned good too.

ES is officially my goto spot for pizza (queue Trumpets).

Added points for the slick use of the train car as a kitchen. I've been driving past it for the past two years and have to give props to how the site was spruced.

They gave me even more arugula on my Jason the Dragon! At this point it feels targeted and I swear I thought I saw the employees laughing at me but it may have been my social anxiety. Sigh. Has this been the universal experience for my fellow Houstonians? I love Shredder's vibes but I might need to say see you later boy to these skater boys
