Feeling Isolated

Hi
I thought I’d give this a try. I have been feeling very isolated and alone. I only go to work and come home. And on my days off I stay home but not sure really what to do with myself. I’ve become an introvert and have been trying to get out there but it has been very hard especially when there’s not much to do in Huddersfield.

I need to interact with people, just people my age. I’m 27 but also would like to have women friends my age. Not sure where to go or what to do. Or if there’s any social activities. Staying home 24/7 is not good for my physical and mental health.
I’m struggling but not sure what to do.
So thought I’d post on here.
Thanks

WHY am I hearing fireworks every night at exactly 11:30pm?

Ive seen a lot of people post about fireworks on here so it’s not just my area. It actually has me jumping out of bed thinking we’re being bombed. This happens for a good 15 minutes every night.

Quiet spaces

I just wondered if there were any quiet places in Huddersfield, preferably town centre since it’s walking distance, where I can just sit down and do my own thing. Where I can just sketch, or just do my own work in a nice quiet space where no one really minds. As I’m not sure if there’s any places like that. So I thought I’d ask. If anyone knows of any, just drop a message. Thanks

Anybody want to join a carpool from South Yorkshire to Huddersfield? (M1/M62)

Hi all, I'm 25 and starting at the Uni of Huddersfield next month until hopefully 2030. I've surrendered to the fact that I'll need to drive because the trains are so extortionate so I'm just putting the offer out in case anybody else is in a similar position?

I can take either motorway but opening the offer up to people mainly from the following areas:

Via M18 + M1: Doncaster, Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley, Penistone

Via A1+ M62: Doncaster, Pontefract, Wakefield

Although I'm going to uni, don't be afraid to drop a message if you're not a student as I'm happy to pick-up people going to work because I can happily commit to 9-5 on campus.

My Schedule:

I'll update this as soon as I know for sure but I'll be getting my timetable in a few weeks but I'm expecting at least Monday to Thursday.

I plan to make use of the gym and can entertain myself (or study) if I need to hang around and I might even pick-up a part-time job there if I find anything.

About the Ride:

I'm no baron, we'll just split fuel evenly. In my car it's likely going to cost me £15 if I go straight there and back and there might be some parking fees so we can workout shares from that.

6 years no claims, 4 years owning Skoda Fabia 2017 and no break-downs- knock on wood.

Driven abroad and daily motorway travel for years now. Non-smoker and excellent music taste.

God, is this what this economy's come to, I've become an Uber driver? 😂

Contacting me:

Feel free to drop a comment below (might boost the algorithm - the more, the cheaper) but if you do want to DM me, I'd prefer my Instagram. Same username as on here.

Where can i find actually nice apartments in Huddersfield?😭

Me F(19) and my boyfriend M(19) are hoping to move out together next year. I’ll be starting university in Huddersfield, so ideally we’d like somewhere reasonably close to the university or at least somewhere with good transport links.
The problem is whenever I search for apartments in Huddersfield, I keep seeing the exact same properties from the same few letting companies and honestly… they’re not really what we’re looking for 😭. I know there must be nicer/ more modern apartments around, but I have no idea where people actually find them.
We’re looking for something that feels modern, clean and actually nice to live in, rather than the really dated student accommodation-looking places that seem to come up everywhere.

So for anyone who lives in Huddersfield:
• What websites/apps do you use to find apartments?
• Are there any letting agencies I should look at?
• Are there specific areas/buildings that have nicer apartments?
• Is there anywhere else I should be looking besides Rightmove/Zoopla?
• And is there anything I should know about renting as a young couple for the first time?
We’re not looking for student accommodation either — we’d ideally like our own proper apartment.
Any recommendations would be massively appreciated.

General Question Good independent garage near Huddersfield for Toyota suspension/corrosion work?

Thumbnail
2 Upvotes

I’m looking for a reliable independent garage around Huddersfield/West Yorkshire for a 2012 Toyota Yaris.

I need someone who is good with suspension, corrosion/rust assessment and general mechanical work, and who will distinguish between what genuinely needs replacing and what is just age-related surface corrosion.

The car may be used for regular long motorway journeys, so reliability matters.

Any garages you’ve personally used and would recommend?

Womens social groups/clubs

Hi I just wondered if there were any womens social groups at all. I just need to have girls to talk to and I’ve been really needing girls nights and days to go out and do things together. It’s been really hard. I don’t mind any groups from sports to reading. Anything really. I’m 27f. I’ve done my research but not had any luck to find anything, so wondered if anyone else knew of any.

Would love to hear back if anyone knows of any. Looking forward to hearing from everyone 😊

Post about friends

Hi I know a posted recently, but I’m looking to meet and make some female friends to hang out with and do stuff with. Don’t reach out to me if you’re not gonna reply. I had some people reach out but not a single message from anyone. Someone who really wants a friendship.

And just people to talk to and do stuff with honestly is what I need. Also not looking for male friends so don’t reach out as I’m not interested. But if any girls actually want to hang out and chat I’d like to as well. Just send a message Thanks

Opinions on areas of Brighouse/North Huddersfield

Hi, my husband and I are looking to move to Brighouse/Huddersfield (close to the M62). We are considering a house in Rastrick, close to Carr Green Primary. We have a 1 year old so access to good schools is a priority. Does anyone have opinions on this area of Rastrick? I've heard Rastrick is variable by street. We are also looking at Greetland, Golcar, Linthwaite, and Rastrick. I've been warned off Elland. Any opinions on these areas? Or any others we should consider? I adored Slaithwaite but it is sadly out of budget. We live on quite a leafy, quiet street at the moment so ideally looking for the same!

General Question Where to put up posters/flyers in town to promote some DIY Club-night events?

We have a few upcoming techno, reggae and dub step events coming up. I'm not here to promote them, instead I'd like to see if there are more locations I can be putting posters up (legally) and flyers out.

Our events are done for the love of putting them on and bringing music to the community, we've never made any money and are still paying off the costs of our massive soundsystem.

On the list so far - Wall of Sound, Byram Arcade, Coffee Evolution, Arcade Coffee, Arcade Beer, Record cafe.

Feel like I'm probably missing loads. Where would you recommend?

Thanks!

UNI OF HUDDERSFIELD, QUEENSGATE CAMPUS ACCOMMODATIONS

Hi! Went on here before to ask about accommodations! I eventually narrowed down my choices and need up-to-date, real reviews from people who have stayed here:

  • Vogue Lettings (Hannah House)
  • Zetland House (if you can mention somebody I can directly contact, it'll be great! thank you!)
  • Castlegate (Merchants Hall or Dundas Works)
  • Vanilla Ltd
  • Whitegates (they mostly let the properties I saw on rightmove, zoopla, spareroom, and on the market)

These are the ones that I found accept international guarantors and monthly rent payments. Hoping you guys could help me one last time !

Thank you in advance!
