casino career?

Hello! I am in need of some guidance. I was born and raised in Lake Charles, however I have spent half of my life in Houston. I am currently really struggling with finding a job, as we know the job market is horrific. I decided on a whim to throw out my resume to a casino back home and was offered an interview, which I sadly had to decide against as I was interviewing somewhere else that day. Nothing ended up happening with said interview, and I have been looking for a job since March so maybe it's just the desperation. In Houston, you don't really get anywhere without a connection, and that's what I lack. I know this may seem silly to dwell on, but all of my family is in Lake Charles, and it really feels like home. It would've been a full time job with benefits and great hours, and I only seem to be getting part time options in Houston that don't even cover the essentials. Is it silly to think I should've taken it? I just hear so many mixed reviews about living in LC, I haven't lived there in so long so maybe my judgement is cloudy. Is working at the casinos worth it to anyone that may have a job there? I probably wouldn't stay forever, but who knows. Just looking for any and all advice about the situation :) thank you in advance.

does anyone purchase flower from online sources?

IM NOT A FED (before the "wouldnt you like to know, fed" jokes come in lmao)

Good Day Farms is a nice place dont get me wrong, but their weed is so expensive, ive seen people say that theyve moved on to online resources because theyre overall cheaper, I use weed for health reasons so its just taking a big chunk out of my paychecks tbh.

anyway lemme know! In the end i dont mind shopping from GDF but i do feel that theres room for much needed competition for them

Airshow

Well I do live crazy close to chenault. The blue angels are making their turns directly over my house. I love this but I had bought tickets for Friday's show which was canceled. We got our money back but there was no more room in the handicap zone. I am just disappointed in thunder over louisiana. Not the performers

What steps do you take to get in the plants?

For context, I'm a single father of 3. Been getting by with basic retail work, but the kids deserve a better quality of life and they're actually old enough to be home alone for a few hours.

I can understand getting a TWIC/Safety card, but what all do you have to do to get into that line of work? Is continued education a requirement, or just smiled-upon?

Ways to meet new people?

Hi there! I'm new to Lake Charles and trying to find some local people/groups. My husband, two kids and I moved here for my husband's job a little less than a month ago. I don't have any family or friends here yet, so it would be great to meet some new folks.

I'm pretty introverted and not exactly a natural social butterfly. I'm into reading, coloring, Stardew Valley/cozy gaming in general, true crime, coffee, and generally low-key activities.

Are there any chill groups or other introverts around here who'd be interested in hanging out?

💛 SULPHUR & CARLYSS LOCALS — I need your memories! 💛

I’m beginning research for a children’s Lani Land book about Sulphur and the surrounding community, and I don’t just want the history we can find online.
I want your Sulphur.
What do you remember? What did your parents or grandparents tell you? What places are gone now? What traditions do you think our children should know? What little piece of Sulphur history would make a kid say, “No way! That happened HERE?”
I definitely want to explore things like the sulfur mines and how the city got its name, but I also want the stories that only locals know — old businesses, neighborhoods, schools, swimming spots, festivals, family traditions, funny stories, hidden landmarks, Hurricane stories, and the people who helped make this community what it is.
If you grew up here, live here now, or your family has deep roots here, please tell me something about Sulphur or Carlyss that deserves to be remembered.
And if you know an older resident who could tell stories for HOURS, tag them. 😂❤️
Some of your memories may eventually become little “A Local Told Lani…” pieces inside the book so our kids can grow up knowing the stories of home.

Anyone have a good HVAC guy who can do a mini-split installation for a fair price?

I know it's not terribly difficult if you're handy, but it requires electrical work and special HVAC equipment (unless you buy the expensive MR. COOL diy models).

Also looking for recommendations on affordable mini-split models (≥8000BTU).

Local DJing or music production lessons/instructors in Lake Charles?

I have been wanting to learn how to DJ, mainly as a side hobby… Is there anyone in Lake Charles that I could possibly get some kind of lessons?

I play guitar and would also like to learn how to do Home record mix and master, etc. But for now the Dj thing has my interest for the most part.

How bad was the 2008-2009 recession in Lake Charles?

Like were people struggling to find work, were people selling their belongings like cars dirt cheap?

People that lived through that time, what was it like?

We collect glass from residents, restaurants, bars, businesses, events, and community partners then process into useable aggregate.
Today we received more than 300 pounds of glass from a single donation, proving that our community is ready for a better option!
