Meta [WARNING] Suspicious accounts are messaging users to advertise a paid app

EDIT: several users has let us know that some of the accounts in question are Riley1692, amie-2002, leopard6004, and cebubu6865. These users have now been banned, but unfortunately can still send messages to subreddit members. I would strongly recommend that you don't engage with these users, as they are spamming the subreddit with advertisements and their actions have been very suspicious.\**

Hi y'all,

We've been notified by a user about multiple suspicious accounts messaging people who post in r/language_exchange, sending them messages similar to the one below:

Just curious, have you ever felt frustrated with language exchange? Too many DMs, chats fading out halfway, or spending a lot of time but only a few connections actually lasting? I’m curious what people think about this. [advertisement for a paid app]

This is to let anyone in this subreddit know that these accounts should not be trusted and neither should the apps that they are promoting. If you get a message like this, please report the message so that these accounts can hopefully be banned sitewide. You can learn how to do that here.

Please also send their usernames to us via modmail so that we can ban them from the subreddit. This unfortunately doesn't stop them from messaging subreddit members, but it will prevent any spam via posts or comments.

If you have any further questions or comments, please reply to this post or send us a modmail.

Meta (READ THIS FIRST) Welcome to r/language_exchange! [Meta/General Discussion Thread]

Welcome to ! This subreddit is aiming to help people find partners to practice languages with, offering the languages you already know in exchange to learn new ones. Make sure to read the guidelines before making your first post!

🍃 How do I make my language exchange post?

If you're looking for a language exchange partner, you can either make your own post or search through existing posts!

 Making your own post:

  • Your thread title must follow the format of "Offering: language | Seeking: language". If your post doesn't follow this format, it won't be visible to other users.
  • Make sure to write a little bit about yourself, such as your interests, hobbies, or language-related goals. This is important in making sure you can find a good partner!
  • Please do not post your contact information publically. If you find a partner and would like to chat with them on a platform other than Reddit, please message them your contact information privately.

 Searching through existing posts:

If you don't want to make your own post, you can search through existing posts to find someone who matches your languages! Just use the search bar at the top of the screen, or select a post flair to see all posts of the same category.

  • Please do not post your contact information publically. If you find a partner and would like to chat with them on a platform other than Reddit, please message them your contact information privately.

🍃 What kinds of posts and comments are allowed?

This subreddit's purpose is to serve as a platform for people to find language exchange partners. To keep the community true to its purpose, there are some rules:

  • Must be language exchange. Posts that don't concern language exchange will be removed. This includes posts asking general questions about language learning, advertisements, or meta discussion concerning the subreddit. These discussions are better suited to other places (language learning questions should be posted to broader subreddits; meta discussion should be posted in the comments of this thread)
  • Be courteous to other users. This subreddit isn't a place for arguments or debates. Any comments that break this rule will be removed.
  • No advertising. Posts and comments that advertise apps, services (such as classes and tutoring), or groups (such as Discord servers or Whatsapp groups) will be removed. These kinds of posts clog up the feed and don't follow the purpose of the subreddit.
  • No spam. Spam is the repeated posting of the same content. Any posts and comments that are spam will be removed.
  • No contact information. Contact information (such as Discord usernames, phone numbers, or Whatsapp contacts) should only be shared privately in messages, not publically in posts or comments.

🍃 Can I make a language exchange post for a language I've just started studying?

You can participate in this subreddit regardless of your skill level. However, it's highly recommended that you grasp the basics of a language before you look for a partner. This subreddit is for speakers of different languages to *assist each other* in learning. This subreddit is not a place to find a teacher that'll teach you everything for free.

Good luck on your language journey!

If you have any questions, feel free to leave a reply on this post or send us a Modmail.

-----

Welcome to the meta/general discussion thread!

This thread is for any questions, suggestions, or discussions concerning the subreddit itself. If you have any thoughts about  you want to share, post them here! I'll try to respond to as many comments as I can.

If you have any further questions, feel free to send us a Modmail.

Offering English Offering: English | Seeking: Spanish , Brazilian Portuguese

Hi Everyone! I'm 34F from the US and I'm looking for friends (ideally around my age) to practice my Spanish (B1) and Brazilian Portuguese (A1) with.

A little about me I'm an artsy person who loves exploring the world through music, food, dance and learning history. I'm also into science and geography.

We can talk about culture or art or you can just even tell me about your day or special interests so I can practice listening and understanding different topics. I'm trying to get over my fear of speaking other languages to native speakers so I can use it in every day life. I'd love to be fluent in a few years and also use these languages professionally.

In exchange, I'm happy to help with English pronunciation, vocabulary, or just general practice. I can also help with prompts and scenarios if you like!

We can chat on whatsapp and send voice notes or do phone conversations whatever is easiest.

Offering French Offering : French | Seeking: English and German

Upvotes

Hello everyone !!

I am a 22F French student fromoffering fren Paris, and I am looking for someone to speak in English and German.

My levels in these languages :

I took German in junior and high school, but I got quite rusty in it since I did not exposed myself to it :(

In English, I consider myself to be at B2, and I would definitely like to improve and get it to a C1 at least ! My speaking skills are definitely not good, and I am not confident speaking it in the moment.

The goal for me would be to gain confidence speaking in these languages!

A little about me :

I am an extroverted person. I am currently in medical and biomedical studies. I am very interested in Asian culture, pastry, food, movies. I would be excited about talking about my culture, society and politics, and even more about listening about yours :) !! We even could be talking about anything, really !

I would like a person who is interested in regular exchanges (more than a hour per week if life gets not so busy ?), be it texting, calling.

Please feel free to answer to this post/DM me with a little description of yourself :)

Offering Portuguese Offering: Portuguese / Seeking: English

Hey everyone!
I’m an English teacher and coordinator at a language school in Brazil, and I’m looking for native English speakers who would be interested in having a quick, casual cultural exchange with our students.
The idea is simple: we’ll have short conversations on a specific topic through Zoom. Our students are learning English and would love the opportunity to practice with someone who speaks English naturally, while also learning a little about different cultures and perspectives.
The conversations can be very informal and beginner-friendly — no teaching experience is required!
If you’re interested in joining us, I can share the Zoom/group link. We’re hoping to start as early as tonight, depending on availability.
If this sounds like something you’d enjoy, feel free to comment or send me a DM.
The link below is a group on WhatsApp if you want to join: Exchange group

Offering Urdu Offering: Hindi/Urdu, English (intermediate) | Seeking: English (speaking practice), German, Arabic, Japanese

Upvotes

I have a hard time having normal conversations with people. I just don't know what to say sometimes. I want to practice speaking more to get myself in awkward situations less. Being 29f, life has been hard on me (or for me) since almost forever. Please reach out to me even if I'm currently not seeking the language you can offer, as long as we can communicate in English (even if broken) I'm sure we both will get something out of it. I just moved to Dubai a week ago so if someone in Dubai wants to meet and practice that might be possible (eventually, but not anytime soon).

¡Aprendamos juntos!

Offering Spanish Offering: Spanish (native) | Seeking: English (native)

Upvotes

Hey everybody! I'm a 33-year-old man from Argentina, and like the title says I'm looking for a native English speaker to talk to.

My level of English is somewhere between C1 and C2, and I work as an English–Spanish interpreter/translator in the medical field. However, I feel like I still need to practice my English outside of work hours to keep improving (not to mention that I also want to speak English in a more informal and relaxed environment).

Of course, in return I'm more than happy to help with Spanish (no matter the level, although it would be great if it's at least B1). I enjoy helping others learn and improve their Spanish.

Some of my interests are tennis, football (soccer), music, tv shows and movies, traveling, but I'm open to talking about pretty much anything. I prefer to use WhatsApp for the exchange so we can send voice notes back and forth and eventually have phone calls here and there.

If anyone is interested after reading this, feel free to send me a DM!

Offering Portuguese Offering: Brazilian Portuguese (native), English (high B2) | Seeking: Spanish, Mandarin

Hello!

I'm a 19 y/o brazilian from the Northeist of Brazil with an advanced English and a B1 Spanish, looking for a Spanish speaker (if it's chilean, even better) to practice both writing and speaking, and learn more of the language. Also, I just started learning Mandarin too, so I could take some advices as an absolute beginer. :) In exchange, I can help you with brazilian Portuguese or English, or both!

I don't have the time to talk much during the week but we can talk at the weekends! My time zone is UTC-3.

I enjoy talking about everyday things but also about deep thoughts. I love everything related to humanities (history, geopolitics, philosophy...) and my hobbies are learning new languages, listening to various kinds of songs, going on trails, reading and watching movies, TV series and anime. Also, I'm studying to go to uni next year so I can pursue an Internacional Relations degree. :)

Feel free to comment here or DM me.

See ya!

Offering Multiple Languages Offering: Russian, Ukrainian (native speaker) ; seeking: English

Hey everyone! I’m an M19 native speaker of Ukrainian and Russian looking for a dedicated language exchange partner to sharpen my English. Although my current proficiency borders between upper-intermediate and B2+, my primary objective is to make the leap to a solid C1

I enjoy intellectually engaging conversations across a broad spectrum of topics, with a particular interest in history, geopolitics, and combat sports (specifically boxing). Whether you want to discuss current affairs, dive into historical deep dives, or just maintain consistent conversational practice, feel free to drop me a message!

Offering Russian Offering: Russian, Polish, Lithuanian. Seeking: English + friends

Hey

I’m 21 M and I’m looking for someone who wants to practice languages together. I’m trying to improve my English, and I think it’s much easier when you have someone to talk to regularly.

A little about me: I enjoy listening to music, playing video games sometimes, going for late-night drives, and watching movies and TV shows. Horror movies and comedies are probably my favorites.

I’m a pretty positive and easygoing person. I can be a little quiet at first, but once I get comfortable, I’m very talkative. I prefer real conversations over small talk and I like getting to know people naturally.

I’m mainly looking for someone who wants to chat, send voice messages, have voice calls sometimes, and help each other with languages. We can talk about everyday life, hobbies, movies, games, music, or pretty much anything.

We can start talking here and, if we both feel comfortable, move to another social media later. We can also have video calls if we’re both comfortable with that.

If that sounds interesting, feel free to message me

Offering Multiple Languages Offering: Chinese, English|Seeking:Greek,Spanish

Hi there! I speak Chinese at native-level and fluent English. And I'm currently learning Greek and Spanish, so I'm looking for language-exchange partners for both. Anyone up for it? :)

Btw, if you're a native English speaker, we can exchange languages as well, cuz learning in general can be infinite and a life-long journey in my humble opinion.

In regard to learning formats, I'm open to structured lessons, casual language-exchange, like chatting about specific topics or generic subjects, etc. Chinese-wise, I can teach you based off of HSK textbooks if you'd care to. English-wise, feel free to let me know what sort of textbooks/materials you want our sessions to draw on, if there are any, since I have previous experience teaching English.

In return, since my Greek and Spanish are both at elementary level with Greek being better-ish, as I've studied it for a longer period, I would prefer more structured lessons referencing textbooks/materials. Just my two cents: before reaching A2 or preferably B1, a more structured learning format tends to be more helpful and effective.

Cheers!

Offering Russian Offering: Russian; Seeking: French

Hi! I’m 42M, Belarus born, resident of the US. I had been learning French before moving to America. Got distracted by the necessity of learning English, now getting back on track. Not offering my services because I honestly think that learning English with a native speaker is more beneficial. But if for whatever reason my help is needed I‘m willing to provide. Interested in many things, get inspired easily, really don’t mind talking about anything.
