The oh-woe-is-me farmers are completely out of pocket

The video attached, by #BlackbirdCoop aka FarmingWhileBiege breaks down the side of the farming industry that they don't want you to know. While there may be some mom and pop farmers, who are struggling, those farmers are few and far between.

This is so true. My dad listens to Fox News AM radio daily. I was taking him home from an eye surgery and he was complaining about medical bills and I brought up universal healthcare. He did his normal "pinko commie socialist healthcare" blah blah... Then an ad comes on the radio.

The ad is for Medi-share. Here is a description from their website:

Medi-Share is a nonprofit health care sharing ministry of Christian Care Ministry, Inc. Through a model rooted in shared values and mutual support, members share medical costs and uplift one another in times of need. Each month, you pay your monthly share. Each month your member contributions go toward sharing in other members medical needs.

My dad says this is an amazing example of Christian values. I said, "Dad, that's socialized medicine..."

When someone was gushing about how fabulous MediShare had been for their church family, I added that communism really was a great way to take care of everyone.

I was just poking the bear and she went crazy. On and on about how no, it's based on Christian principals.

Having been raised in an evangelical church, I still know their buzzwords and scripture to support my thesis. She was not a happy camper when we parted.

The fun part is it's not even socialized medicine it's just how health insurance works but those Cristian Care Ministries are somehow worse than normal health insurance. John Oliver did a piece on them a while back and others have also covered them, they're pretty much just a scam.

You pay them money and they don't provide services in return. Getting these health ministries to pay out on any larger claims is pretty impossible.

You could simply make up a random word, put it on Fox News for a few days while they say it is evil, and 1/3 of this country would be saying “I’ve always hated zyzxytohltism!”

This is the difference between "socialism" and what they want. "Socialism" means someone you don't personally like might benefit in some way from it. But if you convince them only "good," probably white, "Christians" will benefit, they are all in.

It's not the mechanisms of socialism they dislike, it's the fact that people in the outgroup benefit too. Socialism for locals, socialism for christians, socialism for whites, etc. That's all fine, great even. It only becomes a problem for them when everyone benefits. They're not against socialism, they're against not being able to exclude minorities. They have a word for it too, what was it again, local socialism? Ingroup socialism? No? Something about own country first. National socialism? Yeah that might be the one. Socialism for me, not for thee (although it'd be great if you footed the bill).
