First time buyer with some questions? (Storage, care, etc.)
Hello!
Preface: I have yet to buy a motorcycle, and there's a few questions I still have that make me wonder if it's even an option for me. I live in an apartment in South Uptown in Minneapolis and don't have any plans to buy a house any time soon. I always grew up riding OHVs, but that's when I lived out in the middle of nowhere Wisconsin where we had a garage or shed to store them. Now that I have the means, I want to get back into riding, but I don't live in the country with a garage anymore, I live in a big city with regulations I'm still learning. My apartment has garage parking, but I'm not sure I'll ever get a spot. I do see motorcycles parked in our surface lot, and on the streets, so I know there has to be options, but I'm kind of lost on where to look.
Questions:
Where can I store a motorcycle over the winter in the cities?
Can I park my motorcycle in the street like any other vehicle? (Are there nuances?)
What do I need to know about keeping my motorcycle outside? (Weather protection, Theft protection)
Would anyone specifically recommend against owning a motorcycle while living in an apartment?
Looking forward to hearing your answers. Thanks!

Forgotten Star Bike Night 8/4.
I haven't been to a bike night up there since July of last year. I am hoping to find some people in the S. Minneapolis area (or around there) that might want to ride up there and back. I am fine with highway riders, or side-street folks, any type of rider, I am happy to accommodate.
Most of my friends that ride are south of the Cities and won't come up here. I just miss the meetup and would prefer to go with others.
Please let me know if you are interested.

Selling?
Wondering if posting a bike for sale is ok on this page? Regret selling my Fat Bob so I'd like to post my CVO Road King for sale.

Cardo vs Sena question
Any suggestions which to get?
I got my first bike a couple years ago, and haven't been able to ride as much as I want to. I haven't been to any meets yet either, unfortunately.
Is one more popular in the area? Would it even be worth it to buy?

Anyone in the Southern MN area?
Hello, I know this subreddit is pretty dead, but always like to check back and see if there are any riders in the Mankato area.
We have a smaller group of friends that plan rides and we have a mix of bike styles. This year we have quite a few ADV bikes, but also have, cruisers, standards, sport bikes, etc.

New in Minneapolis – Motorcycle Parking & Theft Concerns
Hi all — I moved to Minneapolis last month and, thanks to the winter weather, I’ve been keeping my bike in a storage unit.
Now that things are warming up, I’m getting the itch to ride again and would love to bring it out of storage. The issue is that my condo building doesn’t allow motorcycles (see attached image/footnote), so my main option would be street parking.
For those of you who park on the street regularly, what has your experience been like? I searched the motorcyclessubreddit and only found two theft-related posts — one from 13 years ago and another from last year — so I’m trying to get a better sense of how common (or uncommon) bike theft actually is here.
For context, I always use a heavy-duty U-lock and have a 24/7 tracker installed, but I’d still hate to see anything happen to the bike.
Appreciate any insight — thanks in advance!
PS: I’ve noticed a pattern downtown: several parking garages seem to prohibit motorcycles. Does anyone know why that is?

Minneapolis area riding buddy
Looking for someone to go on rides around the city with - one of my riding buddies sold his bike, one crashed and is no longer riding, and another friend has his bike in the shop. I ride a 2016 Scrambler and mainly like riding around locally and stopping to check out bars, breweries, parks and beaches. Send me a message if you'd want to meet up and go for a ride!

Has anyone seen advertisements related to the upcoming lane filtering law change? I haven't and I'm genuinely concerned that people are going to be killed next month.
The government delayed this law going into effect for over a year so they could implement a statewide public education campaign. This was to educate drivers in MN about the law and hopefully prevent road rage. The exact verbiage is here:
Sec. 2. APPROPRIATION; PUBLIC EDUCATION CAMPAIGN; MOTORCYCLE LANE SPLITTING. (a) The commissioner of public safety must implement a statewide public education campaign to alert drivers and the public on how motorcycles may safely pass a vehicle within the same lane or between parallel lanes. The information must be consistent with the requirements of Minnesota Statutes, section 169.974, subdivision 5.
(b) $....... in fiscal year 2025 is appropriated from the general fund to the commissioner of public safety for the purposes of the public education campaign established in paragraph (a).
I'm worried that I haven't seen any ads for this besides one on Facebook a few months ago. I don't know how much money was appropriated-- I've seen another source that said 200k but I can't verify that. With the not-so-passive aggressive drivers in MN I'm really worried that a rider is going to die or get really hurt because of road rage that could be prevented through the education.
Ideas I had that would be helpful:
- Use a motorcycle police unit to lane filter during traffic hour to demonstrate how to safely lane filter to other drivers.
- Use the overhead message board signs that usually have something funny on them to educate.

Trailer/tow service
Hi friends! I have a buddy who's looking to give me their old Honda CX500 as a project bike. Alas, it doesn't currently run, so I'm hoping to be able to hire someone to transport it from Vadnais Heights to Burnsville/Savage. Anyone know of any such service?

Sunday 5/18
Just seeing if people might want to get together for a ride next Sunday. Weather looks good but less brutally hot. Looking for a more relaxed ride along the river roads, or maybe out to old 35 in Wisconsin. I have a great bike but uh, not for long highway rides. So, hoping to find people that don't want to just blast along a highway.

New riders this summer
My partner and I are going to be hitting the roads on two wheels this summer after years of wanting to get into it. Any riders or events in northern MN for us to get to know the community a little better? I have a 2010's Honda Shadow i recently inherited and my partner is looking at finding a 2nd gen KLR 650 ☺️

Advice for first day trip (Mpls—>Northfield)?
Hi all,
Relatively new rider here (since October). My bike is a Royal Enfield Hunter 350.
I have to go to Northfield in early May and thought it might be nice to make that my first long-distance ride. I plan to stick to highways (not the interstate) and return the same day.
Any advice for a novice daytripper? Gear, routes, timing, etc.? I appreciate it!

Would Mille Lacs from Minneapolis be a nice day trip?
It seems like about 4.5 hours of riding to get up to Mille Lacs, ride around it, and return to Minneapolis. Looks like there are plenty of places to stop and eat, rest, etc.
That seems like it could make for a nice day trip, but I’ve never really been up that way. Good idea? Bad idea? Can’t-miss stops along the way?

DPS statement on Lane Filtering VS Legal Definition
I saw the MN Motorcycle Safety Center statement on lane filtering, and it has me wondering: https://dps.mn.gov/divisions/ots/safe-driving-information-and-laws/mn-motorcycle-safety-center
Lane filtering is allowed when two or more lanes of traffic are traveling in the same direction and traffic
I don't see any reference to the two lanes of traffic in the law: https://www.revisor.mn.gov/statutes/cite/169.974#stat.169.974.5
(g) A person may operate a motorcycle and overtake and pass another vehicle in the same direction of travel and within the same traffic lane if the motorcycle is operated:
(1) at not more than 25 miles per hour; and
(2) no more than 15 miles per hour over the speed of traffic in the relevant traffic lanes.
Am I missing something?

New to MN-looking for people to ride with
Looking for someone to ride with. I ride a S1000RR BMW and noticed most people in my area don’t ride sports bike much. Moved from AZ and don’t know many people. I’m also looking for recommendations for places to go with fun roads or scenic drives.
Located in Roseville area.
