Social where are the real parties at 💔

Upvotes

i feel like all the parties at msu are like frat parties so can someone tell me where to find real/fun parties where i can meet people and actually talk instead of being cramped in a basement? im a freshman and i was really hoping to have some fun and meet people in parties that didnt only involve drinking and insanely loud music

Housing Sad because missed the chance to experience dorm life

Upvotes

Ive been pretty isolated most my life. I just transferred to msu as a junior and im slowly making friends, but it feels really similar to Home, where you have to set up a whole hangout and hope that we are both free.

I wasn’t sure I was going to get student housing until after I signed my lease. Then got an opportunity to live in akers dorm. I feel like im missing out a lot. And I kind of regret not at least trying to get out of my lease.

I went on Zillow, and there was almost nothing. Did I look into it too late, or should I find another thing to look for housing?

Freshman Questions Individual study rooms

Hey guys. I'm taking a language class this year and need a place to do homework and practice my speech. Any recommendations for quiet places where I can practice without bothering anyone? I know the library has study rooms but can I reliably snag one of these?

General Parking Spot for Rent?

I'm looking to rent a parking spot for the school year or just this semester that I can get to from the Louis St, Michigan Ave, and Beal St. area.

A covered spot (like a carport or garage space) is highly preferred, but I’m open to uncovered options if the location is right. I'm looking to secure this as soon as possible and am happy to discuss rates and terms.

Please shoot me a DM if you have a spot available or know someone who does. Also, if you have any good places to look besides PRNDL and the city lots, please let me know! Thanks!

General Lost in tuition payment system

Parent here. The tuition due date is today. My son gave me access to a guest account. I logged into SIS, got into the Okta dashboard and then MSU Home, and now I'm completely lost on where to find the tuition portal. The SIS information phone line is completely overloaded and is not taking calls. I now really understand how frustrating it is to be lost in this bureaucracy. Any help is appreciated!!

Admissions What is the PhD scholarship amount

I'm new to US and where I come from doesn't pay for PhD. So I'd like to understand how much I would realistically receive if I joined CMSE PhD, per month and I'm not a US resident so I would be able to take only 50% FTE. I can fund my living for around 4-5 mons other than that is the scholarship and stipend enough to survive how much would I be able to take home.

General Inviting all children who stutter to volunteer in a paid University of Michigan MRI Study!

Post image
4 Upvotes

The Speech Neurophysiology Lab at the University of Michigan is looking for children who stutter ages 9 to 12 to participate in an in-person, longitudinal MRI study! (HUM00196133)

Our research team has been examining brain development in young children to better understand the cause of stuttering for over 10 years. We continue to gain information that may eventually lead to improved diagnosis and treatment efforts for children who stutter.

Participants will be invited to complete speech and language assessments and an MRI session at the University of Michigan. Families receive a free speech and language report and a picture of their brain!

These visits require in person participation. There is no option to participate virtually.

Please fill out this form if you are interested in participating or email us as the flyer attached. All participants are compensated and partial travel assistance is available. Please see our flyer attached for more details!

We also offer other studies that are open to adults or do not involve MRI, in case you're unsure about eligibility. Feel free to email us or call if you have any questions!

Clubs MSU Amateur Radio Club - Tech In A Day Class

The Michigan State University Amateur Radio Club is proud to host Dan KB6NU and his One-Day Tech Class!

The purpose of the event is to get students excited, and most importantly, prepared for this year’s amateur radio events like contesting, contacting others through the International Space Station, building antennas, and a radio fox hunt. Having a license means that you have the basic knowledge necessary to learn and participate in all the fun the club has to offer, and one of the ways to do this is lovingly known as the “Ham Cram”. Getting license requirements out of the way quickly means that you have more time to enjoy and learn what the ARC has to offer.

This isn't just for tech nerds (although there are quite a few members). Anybody can join and have a blast with our projects! Absolutely nobody is excluded, and one of our favorite things is to show new members the ropes and help them make their very first contacts.

Please join us, September 19th 2026 at 8:30am in the Engineering Building, Room EB 1145. The class is absolutely free. Testing is only $15, and you can test for any of the available license levels if you're ready. The class is just for the first license level, but if you're ready, you can go all the way to Extra!

We sincerely hope to see you there.
