I took care of this horse back in the 90's when I was teenager. She used to bite my ass when I cleaned her hooves. Once I had enough and I yelled at her that bite me one more time and I'll bite back! And she did. And so did I. I took a mouthful of her neck and bite. I don't think she got very hurt, but she didn't bite me after that anymore šŸ˜„

Someone more skilled could have perhaps train her without having to use teeth, but I can say that message went through!Ā

It works with toddlers lmao, I have several mom friends who bit back when their toddlers went through a biting phase and it stopped them immediately.

I think a lot of animals also kind of "police" their young that way, like puppies and kittens learn to be gentle when they play because if they bite too hard, Mom or one of their litter mates will bite back!

I did this with my sharky little golden retriever puppy. The first time I gave his nose a lil chomp he was stunned.

Anyway it didn't work because I think it's hilarious when he gnaws on my hand and now he's a 4 year old shark.

I used to have a horse and we rad a rough start, he was poorly trained before I got him and became dangerous. Spent A LOT of time with a trainer doing ground work and learning a lot about how horses behave and communicate. Itā€™s all about learning to speak horse. A well timed bite back is a clearer signal to a horse than a poorly timed shout/slap/whatever you think a ā€œbetter trainerā€ might do.

When I tell you my boy went from full on rodeo sessions to buck me off, to whinnying and trotting to me from the far field leaving his horse friends behind Iā€™m not even exaggerating. All because I learned to speak his language, and put in the work to build trust
