No. At age 5 most many kids are still working out letter writing skill. Age 7 is considered the age at which reverse letters is starting to be a concern, and even then it’s not a definitive dyslexia sign.
“As students learn letters and handwriting skills, we may see letter reversals until age 7 to 8. This is a normal age range for children to still have some reversals in their handwriting.”
“Letter reversals, when children write letters backward or upside down, can be common up until the age of 7 years.”

I will never call anybody out on reddit about their child's abilities ever again. The one time I did it, about a 3 yr old writing stories, OP proceeded to comment a video of a literal 3 year old, writing literal paragraphs on a whiteboard. Like WTF. Some people's kids are just advanced, that's it.

It’s the print itself for me. Heaps of shadow and crunch on the paper, the drawings though? That’s either the best black fine liner and colours used or something is off here.

I'm always suspicious of "kid writing" that involves 90% misspelled words and flipped letters, that's not how most kids make writing mistakes. I don't buy that a 5 year old would never have seen the word "banana" or "juice" written down before. By age 5 I'd probably seen at least 100 containers of apple juice with the name of the product on them

Brother, 5 year olds do not memorize how to spell words. It's not how it works. They see a million words every day written down. I'm not sure why you're arguing this, assuming a 5 year old can pick up words like an adult. They may understand the pattern/sound of the A in banana, but it still doesn't mean they'll get it 100% right every time.

No they won't. They will just be starting to learn that C can make more than one sound. Just because they've seen the word juice before doesn't mean they will remember that the "s" sound in juice is actually a C when they want to write it, or that there's an E at the end.

Might want to get your kid checked for dyslexia. As a child around that age, my parents noted my writing and saw that I kept jumbling letters up and writing K in reverse. Thanks to early intervention, I no longer struggle with it.

At the kids age, the mistakes are completely developmentally appropriate. My bigger issue is after years of teaching I have never seen handwriting like that from a 5 year old. Looks suspiciously not done by a child

She does actually she also writes s and 7 consistently in reverse and some other letters too less often but her school is aware of it and working on it. She used to reverse b and d but now she gets them correctly

They are meant to be able to do that at age 5? Here in Germany they don't even start writing yet at that age and although they do keep an eye on dyslexia they don't see a problem until they usually write confidently, which is at age 8 or so. The beginning is just phonetic writing with no intervention.

Now I admire the consistency in the spelling, and as a linguist who spent a good decade studying spelling-pronunciation, your child is both very aware of phonetics but also gives us a good insight on the way you/they speak. For instance, you probably have a schwa syncope in "banana" (dropping the first vowel), while you probably are very light on the /v/ sound in "Guava" (if you do pronounce it as /v/ and not /w/). Good awareness of schwas and unstressed syllables (lemen, saled).

Naww, they got the J the wrong way round.
Yeah the only thing I CANT decode is “Guwuwu”, Grapefruit? If so I’ll have that.
Also that is a very weird colour for bnana swit, ngl.
Edit to check: Joos -> juice, Froot->Fruit, Swit->Split, custd -> custard (and I LOVE custard), Saled -> salad. Lemen -> lemon, bnana -> banana.

Who lets their kid have a meal entirely of fruit? He needs vegetables and protein. The sugar overload is insane. Diabetics drink juice when they get a low because it raises blood sugar immediately. A child getting a sugar spike like this is not healthy.
