Grip Swap

Tried to "sovietize" my East German and found out pretty quick the soviet red grip isn't interchangeable with the black East German one. Think a gun smith could resize the grip or am I out of luck?

Finally got myself a Makarov to go alongside my CZ82 and vz61 Makarov. Next on the list is some ammo. I own three pistols chambered in this caliber but I’ve never fired a shot through any of them. Hopefully that changes soon!

New CZ82 and some sketchy ammo

Went to a local gun show last weekend and I managed to pick up a fairly nice CZ82 along side some ammo that the seller threw in for free. One of the boxes looks new-er and it’s from Hornady. The second box is from Brown Bear Ammo and it looks pretty beat up, to the point where I can’t find a packaging date. The last box is the most ominous, it’s made of paper, has no company listed, and says “Non Corrosive” with the non part marked off in sharpie. It also says “Made at the Tula cartridge works, Russia.” I’m fairly certain the Hornady stuff is safe to shoot, but any ideas on the other two? Also, anything I should know about the CZ82/other Makarov type pistols I should know?

PROJECT: MAK-RAK, v0.1

PROJECT: MAK-RAK (Working Title; better ideas?)

VERSION: v0.1 (Project Launch)

GOAL: Add a PM-63 RAK grip module to a MAC-12 and rechamber to 9x18mm, to utilize cheap and readily available magazines.

CONSTRAINTS: Rewelded grip frame. Attempt to repurpose modified original RAK barrel due to 9x18 barrel blank unavailability.

STATUS: MAC-12 on the way, PM-63 parts kit on the way.

CHALLENGES: Magazine position alignment to ensure proper feed. Potential modifications needed to magazine/bolt to allow proper feed. Modifications to original barrel.

UPDATE: Had this idea last night, while looking far and wide for both 9x18mm barrel blanks as well as original M11A1/M12 magazines - the barrel blanks are nonexistent and would take 10-12 weeks to order. The 380 magazines cost upwards of $125 for an original and $65 for a reproduction. The PM-63 parts kit - if viable - solves both problems and enables more sturdy supply chain solutions to the MAC-11/12 platform.

Finally finished up my mak that I've been putting together for a few years now. It's got a threaded barrel from chefur customs, trilug mount from sovereign development, XS Minimalist suppressor height sights that had custom dovetails milled for, marschal thumb release grips, and some legal arsenal +2 mag extensions.

Presenting: The Glockarov G42 in 9x18mak

Post image

The story goes...

...Awhile back Lone Wolf made 9x18 drop-in barrel conversions for Glock G42's, which appear to be no longer in production. Word on the internet is that they had performance issues with the conversion that required modifications prior to being able to achieve consistent functionality.

I found this one for sale recently on GunBroker, and scooped it up for a pretty good deal. Will be doing test functionality with the gun as-in, but plan to use it as a starting point for...

...New Glockarovs!

I aim to recreate/improve upon the idea of 9x18mak Glock handgun(s), through modification of stock components (barrels, springs, etc.), with as little custom hardware as possible, trying keep costs down.

First step is to figure out how make this G42 live up to Glock reliability/consistency. After that, next project will be Glock 25 build(s), followed by Glock 28 build(s).

Hope you found this interesting, and let me know what you think of this project!

PROJECT: PBJ, v0.3

PROJECT: PBJ (Working Title; better ideas?)

VERSION: v0.1

GOAL: Modify a PM into what is mostly a PB (integrally-suppressed Makarov, more or less).

CONSTRAINTS: To reduce final costs/prices, minimize total number of custom-made parts. Also try to minimize/eliminate frame modification(s).

STATUS: Design 75% complete, base guns ordered, raw materials ordered.

CHALLENGES: Finalize relocated recoil mechanism.

UPDATE: Started this project after discovering some decent quality CAD models of both the PM and PB. From most videos I had seen online, the PB just seemed too different from the PM to do a conversion. After overlaying the assemblies together, they did not seem too much different after all. Then one night of furious CAD modeling got me to this point, and things seemed doable. Now waiting on a couple Bulgarian Circle 10's to show up, to use as the base platform for these conversions.

Plan to make these in at least 4 different configurations:

  1. Single-stack 9x18
  2. Double-stack 9x18
  3. Single-stack .380
  4. Double-stack .380

Not a 9x18 but at least russian. First Mak and wanted in 380 for easier ammo availability. I was pleasantly surprised by the ergos and trigger unlike other Russian weapons I've owned. So far im a new, big fan of the makarov.

I found this in ebay for $30.

Required a lot of fitment to get the left panel on and I probably took off too much material but hey. Seems stable.

100% infill 3D printed.

The goal is a DP Kydex rail when they figure out US shipping but this works. I have to trim that bolt now.

Points for trying but this thing is not it.
