Questions How True Is Pot Disturbance With Nepenthes?

Post image

I’ve seen multiple times that even moving a Hamata DOWN a shelf will make it throw a fit back down. How true is it though for other nepenthes? Is it only those highlanders with the metabolism needs. What is the extent to it?

Questions Why no pitchers?

Post image

My Miranda plant is producing leaves just fine but no pitchers, I've had it about two months and the pitcher plants on either side are producing great pitchers but the tendrils just won't swell up. Humidity is always between 70 -90 and it gets 12+ hours of light. I'm fairly new to these plants so any advice would be helpful

Questions First time propagation

I cut the stem of this little one right in the middle, split the top section in two, and planted them in pots. It’s my first time doing this—what should I watch out for? The artificial light is about a meter away, and the humidity inside the box is over 70% according to the sensor. I really didn't want to cut it, but because of its height, I couldn't position the artificial light properly; if it were up to me, I’d let that branch grow 10 meters long :)

Help! Should I Cut The Main Plant Or The Basal Shoot!

I’m sure everyone was nervous when they did their first cutting and this is mine. I’m gonna do my ventrata first and ease on up but I need YOUR thoughts first.

My thinking is, mother plant is healthy, I can cut that and root it probably no problems.

All the roots should be forced to help (if they do any) to the basal and make temporary exploding growth

Is this how it would work

Propagation Seeking Advice on Acclimating TC Nepenthes

Post image
9 Upvotes

Hello All!

Kinda new to Nepenthes (first one acquired about 14 months ago and currently have 13 varieties) and have got 10 TC Globosa × Ampullaria and 10 TC Albomargianta Black that will arrive tomorrow. 10 Tomoriana x Ampullaria x Veitchii and 10 Northiana will be here next week.

I don’t have MUCH experience with acclimating TC plantlets however I have successfully acclimated a Cephalotus, about the size of a quarter (which shocked the hell out of me) so I am not doubting my abilities, just looking for any tips specific to Nepenthes.

I have the following available to use as substrate:

Coco coir
Sphagnum Moss
Orchid Bark
Peat Moss
Fluval Stratum
Perlite
Lava rocks
Pumice

Should I use a 3” planter with dome or 4” planter with dome, and should the bottom have holes, or progressively add holes? Thank you for any and all advice!

Help! Changed to dead Sphagnum and Pearlite

Post image

My Nepenthes have been sitting in a substrate of pure pumice (1–5 mm) for three weeks now and have grown well, but I’ve decided to repot them into a mix of one part dead sphagnum moss and one part perlite—though the root ball is only about the size of a golf ball, or even smaller. Since the root ball is relatively small compared to the volume of the substrate—and it might take about three weeks for the substrate to dry out before I water it again, would there be a high risk of root rot, or is it okay to do it that way?

And I water the substrate with distilled water so that it is completely soaked and runs out of the drainage holes at the bottom.

I covered the substrate surface with live sphagnum moss.

Thanks :)

Care & Cultivation Fertilizers I can spray on the leaves?

I hear I can spray 1/4tsp/gallon onto the leaves for faster pitcher growth, but I want to make sure there aren't any better options. My plan is to feed the pitchers when they're fully grown so I can encourage faster growth before I repot

Care & Cultivation New to this! Does this look like good?

Good morning!

I picked up a napenthes Black miracle a couple of days ago and the guy at the shop gave me a saucer to keep the plant in to keep humidity up. I decided to add some moss to the bottom and it everything in that. Does this setup make sense? Or should I lose the moss?

I top water and the extra flows Into the moss. My room is about 70F and 45-60% humidity.

Thanks!

Help! Should I be worried/remove the growth?

I love my nepenthes and it is growing splendidly!! However, today I noticed there’s some mushrooms and other growth in the soil. The pot is hanging above eye level so I am not sure how long it’s all been there. Should I be worried? Is it ok to leave it there or should I remove it?

My Veitchii (m x m) looks a wee bit sad. The leaves are all curled and does not have much vigor. The underside of some older leaves is a bit bronze-ish. Do any of you may know what is happening?

Thanks in advance!

Help! Welke soort Nepenthes is dit?

Thumbnail

Alvast super bedankt👍🏼

Questions How do I keep my pitchers to actually stay?

My nepenthes will have no issue budding new pitchers, but at some point they just drop off. The soil is consistently moist, I have it in the total shade of a window that gets bright all day sun (I recently had it more direct but then got the biggest pitcher when I moved it to the shade. Problem is, they only last a few weeks/months until they brown and die. Should I experiment with rainwater and not just distilled? Look into better sphagnum moss that retains more moisture? They all only grow about a finger length and don’t get any bigger, aside from the one that grew from a bunch of shoots that never fully developed. It’s such a mystery but I bet it doesn’t have to be- I just don’t know what I’m Not doing! Thanks!
