Announcement Rule update: Rule 5 - Do not discuss piracy, modification or emulation.

In its place, we have Rule 5 - Do not discuss piracy, modification or emulation.

Any violations of Rule 5 will result in a comment removal or in egregious cases a ban. This is not different from our previous rule, this is simply an update for clarity.

Account Help Does changing my Nintendo Account email sign me out of my switch?

Upvotes

A while ago back in 2025, I gave my switch to my cousins, and where they live Wi-Fi isn't as accessible as it is here in the US, so getting game updates, and even logging in can take a lot of time, like 2-3 hours. I had some downloadable content on there that my cousins liked specifically, so I decided to leave my account on that switch and never log into it on another switch again, especially since this was after the virtual game card update. Now I have a new switch account, but I wanted to switch the email of my account to one of my old emails, but I worry that if I do it'll sign my cousins out the next time they get on a Wi-Fi connection.

Account Help (SW2) Accidentally bought family membership for base NSO when I meant to purchase the expansion pass individual.

As the title said. It won’t let me switch to the individual membership and I don’t want to pay an extra 30 pound for the expansion pass upgrade.

Any advice would be lovely. I can’t call them until tomorrow morning unfortunately.

Tech Support USB Mouse No Longer Working on Switch 1

Last year when Mario Paint was added to NSO, I played it for a while with my USB mouse that I've had for years.

Recently, I was in the mood to play it again, but before playing it on my TV again, I remembered I got a USB-c mouse a few months ago and realized I never tried connecting it directly to the switch to play Mario Paint without needing the dock. I tried it and it worked.

But then when put Mario & Wario for SNES, which, I also played without issue last year, my USB-c mouse stopped being detected. I switched back to Mario Paint, and that wasn't detecting my mouse anymore either.

I was disappointed, but I thought, at least my other USB mouse works on the dock. But then a few days later, I tried playing on docked mode again with the same USB mouse that worked last year, and it didn't work anymore either.

Did Nintendo remove compatibility with certain mice in the past year or something? The USB mouse is a Logitech mouse and maybe 10 years old, and the USB-c mouse is Lenovo and I bought it this year

Game Help Downloaded a game from the American eshop to my switch.

hello! I hope this doesnt break any rules and that this is the right subreddit for this. also dont know if this is the right flair either lmao.

i live in Europe, but i downloaded the project diva demo from the American eshop. I couldnt find the game on the websit. Im kinda stupid, and decided to not check the local eshop. I immediately deleted the software (the one downloaded from the American eshop) and deleted (technically deactivated) the American account i used. I then downloaded it from the local eshop.

i just want to know if im in legal trouble now? Im so sorry if this breaks any rules/isnt the right subreddit for this.

Tech Support Restricted from adding to family group. Switch 2

Hi. So I got a switch 2 a couple of months ago. I had an online mate, somebody I knew through Steam on PC. They invited me to their family grou as they said it would mean I could share the online benefits. I never really used any of it anyway.

A couple weeks ago I bought my 7 year old niece a Switch 2 for Christmas, before the price increase. I wanted to get it set up for her, put a sreen protector on and stuff like that. I then thought it would be good to get some cheap games downloaded to it while some she'd like were on sale, as well as the physical games I'll get her.

This is where I realised I couldn't just make a child account on the console and had to add it on to my account, so I left the family group. Went to add a child account and get told I can't because my ability to join or add to a family group has been restricted.

When I left, I saw that it did mention that joining and leaving a group multiple times could cause the restriction, which makes sense to stop it being abused.

I have joined one single group in the entire life of my Nintendo account which I think I first made when the Wii came out. I then left it about two months later.

I emailed them and all I got was a reply saying they can't help with it. They quoted this:

"The total number of people that can be in a family group is eight. The number of times you can join or leave a family group during a one-year period is limited based on the maximum number of family group members"

That would imply that you can do it eight times. Regardless of how many it is. How can they block me from adding a child account for joining one group in my life and then leaving it?

Can anybody help please? If they won't lift the restriction, is the only way of giving my niece access to the console, making an adult account for her and lying about the date of birth? Because that seems insane and if that's the only option Nintendo leave me with, surely that would go against the UK online safety act

Recommendations Recommendations for Pediatrics Donation

Hey there, hopefully I'm not breaking any rules in asking this, but I'm going to be making a donation to the pediatrics department of a local hospital, and I was hoping someone could guide me a bit on what to get. It's been a minute since I last owned a Nintendo console (*cough*Gamecube*cough*), so I don't know the ins and outs of the Switch consoles.

  1. I saw that there is a Switch 2. From what I've googled, it looks like it plays all of the games that the Switch has. Is that true? Or are certain games not backwards-compatible? Money isn't the issue, I want the latest and best for these kids, but I don't want them to be locked out of certain games if someone (or myself) donates more games to create a library for patients.
  2. Literally, what are kids playing these days? Lol. I figured I couldn't go wrong getting any of the Mario flagship games, but what are the new series/games that are super popular with kids right now? It needs to be E-rated and obviously non-violent (or just cartoon-level). What would you recommend outside of the Mario games?

Feels strange entering the world of my childhood again and seeing how much has changed lol, so thanks again for any help in this.

Tech Support Unable to get Switch 1 and 2 to connect during setup

I keep getting to the place the Switch 1 and 2 next to each other screen. But no matter what I do, the Switch 1 cannot find the Switch 2 and I cannot connect the Switch 2 to my Switch 1 and it times out. Can anyone please help me with what could be wrong with my systems? I'm specifically trying to make sure I don't have to factory reset either console if I can help it.

Account Help Can I save game progress locally for a game borrowed from the library then buy the game & keep the same progress for an account on my Switch Lite or must I buy a different Nintendo Online Subscription? We fell in love with Zelda: Breath of the Wild (BOTW) and would be devastated to lose progress.

I have an Individual Nintendo Online Membership for Switch Lite (United States). I am the Parent / Admin Account on our console and Parental Controls. We've made 4 profiles on the console (mine, my child's and 2 additional profiles... initially to have more houses on our ACNH island 😅)

This month we borrowed Zelda BOTW from the library and 😭✨ it's so beautiful!!! We are both FULLY invested and absolutely adore this game. I truly cannot imagine not having it and want to save up to buy our own physical version.

In preparation for the library due date, I went into my Switch System Settings to make sure everything saves bc according to Internet searches we could save progress from our accts that would populate when we buy our own BOTW game when we put the cartridge in.

I navigated to from System Settings > Data Management > Save Data to Cloud, selecting my user profile which said

• Automatic Save-Data Backup:On

• Automatic Save-Data Download: On

So, I clicked All Save Data on the left and BOTW had said ✅ Backed up 🥳

Then I did the same for my child's user profile and it said Nintendo Switch Online Membership required to save. 😰

However,

When I go to System Settings > Data Management > Manage Software in that same section (which doesn't prompt me to select a user), it says 946 MB for BOTW so it looks like it's on the micro SD card...

Now, my questions are:

• With all of that considered, do I have to buy a Nintendo Switch Online Family Membership for every user profile on the console to have progress from a game saved OR will is their progress saved on the SD card/console?

• Also, does the data listed in the Manage Software section represent ALL user gameplay on our Switch?

Sooooo, do we even NEED a Nintendo Online Membership AT ALL to save our progress and have it applied if we put in a different copy (cartridge)of the same game (as in one we buy vs the one we borrowed from the library)?

I'm panicking over making sure I understand how to save progress and if I HAVE to pay for my current membership or a family membership to ensure that. We are poor and this game brings us so much joy so I want to save for our own copy but don't want to keep paying for memberships if it's not actually meeting our few needs (we only have 3 games two of which were given to us by friends and one, Spirtfarer, is a digital copy *also a breathtaking game/highly recommend)

🙏Thank you so so much in advanced for reading and any help you can offer (including other places to ask for help ) 🥹🖤

Tech Support (Nintendo switch 2) I lost the physical game cartridge for a game I own

I can’t find my physical gamecard for BotW and I just recently moved so I’m pretty sure it’s lost forever. Is there any way Nintendo support might give me a digital copy of the game if I can prove I bought it legit (like an email receipt of the original purchase or something) because like the idea of re-buying a game I ALREADY OWN pisses me off.

Account Help Considering buying two Switch 2s for online play on the same games, but want to make sure I have the details right

Hi,

I plan on buying a second Switch 2 for the household, and even after reading all the existing posts, I just wanted to make sure I have it all correct before I make the decision. The goal is to be able to play online games together with both consoles on the same games.

  • Some details:
    • Both Switch 2s will be registered under my account (User X) but have other profiles on each console as well (User Y, User Z)
    • All users have their own Nintendo account, and all are part of my online family plan.
    • All games purchased so far are on User X. User Y and Z do not own any digital games.
  • My proposed setups, identical on both consoles:
    • Switch A:
      • User X (primary account), User Y, User Z
    • Switch B:
      • User X (primary account), User Y, User Z
  • With physical games:
    • Simply put in the cartridge into each Switch 2 and just play like normal
      • All users can play online without issues
  • With digital games:
    • User X on Switch A, User Y or Z on Switch B:
      • All users can play online together only if each User owns their own copy of the digital game. This would mean that I'd have to buy a separate copy for User Y or User Z on their accounts -- or buy a second physical copy
  • Some questions:
    • If all my games are downloaded on Switch A and User Y or Z want to play on Switch B (fresh console):
      • If I just link my Switches together, I can enable VGC (games that are digital) and share them right? Only that Switch can play it until it is returned
      • Regarding DLC, if it's a digital game then all DLC is shared as well. But what if it's a physical game that I bought DLC for? Can I share that also?

Am I missing any details or misunderstanding anything? Is there a more efficient way? Thank you all!

Tech Support How does the switch lite to switch 2 game transfer feature work?

I was playing the Yugioh single player game. I tried playing it on switch 2 but forgot there was no cloud saving. I tried transferring data. And my switch lite works fine for the transfer. But my switch 2 gets locked into transfer data. My WiFi disables and I can’t power off the device go back or hit home. That lasts for about 10-15 minutes. Am I doing something wrong?

Account Help I cannot receive Nintendo emails

Hi everyone,I'm having a frustrating issue with my Nintendo Account and I hope someone here has faced this before. My account is currently set up as a child account, but I am now old enough to upgrade it to a standard account. Every time I try to go through the upgrade process, the system says it sent a verification email. However, the email never arrives.I checked Spam, Junk, and Trash folders (nothing there).I verified that Nintendo's official emails are not blocked(all in the adult email).Because of this, my account is practically stuck as a child account forever. Has anyone experienced this glitch? How did you fix it?Thanks in advance for any advice!

Tech Support Switch lite making weird buzzing noises whenever I try to play a game.

My switch lite, which I've owned for almost 5 years, started making this weird buzzing noise! When I boot it up, and if it's on the home menu or anything else that isn't a game, the buzzing is very quiet and you'd have to put it up to your ear to hear it. However, when I'm playing a game, it gets louder! Could it be a problem with the fans?

Tech Support 8bit do controller isn't connecting to Switch 2

I have an 8bit do ultimate 2 wireless controller and I've tried connecting it multiple times in various ways to no avail.

I have updated the controller and the dongle to have the latest firmware (v1.10 on the controller and v1.06 on the dongle)

First I tried connecting it via bluetooth by going to the bluetooth audio settings, but the switch 2 can't seem to detect it. I checked for available devices on my phone's bluetooth and the controller shows up there.

Then after looking up some video guides, I went to the change grip/order settings and tried just turning it on and seeing if the switch 2 detects it but that doesn't seem to be working either.

For both of these attempts I waited around 2-3 mins to see if the controller would get detected

The last thing i tried was connecting via dongle. I made sure to switch the controller from bluetooth to 2.4g. When I did this, the led light on the controller stopped blinking and vibrated as if it successfully connected to a device, but pressing the buttons does nothing. The first time I did it, I saw a "paired" msg pop up on the switch 2 (it still wasn't working) but when I tried again, the msg never popped up again.

I have no idea what I'm doing wrong and the guides online haven't really helped. Please let me know if there's some setting I need to change or anything I need to fix to make it work properly.

Tech Support Error code 2002-4057, Nintendo switch 1. If I reformat will my daughter’s saves in her favorite game be gone?

Hello. Bought a few new games today from the e-shop. First downloaded no problem, the others throw error code 2002-4057 which is a corrupt sd card. System is currently up to date, I did the turn off, reinsert card thing with no luck. Other games saved on the card boot up and play fine. One of which is my daughter’s Tomodachi Life game that she’s spent months playing. If I format this card will all her save data be gone? What are my options here?
Thanks!

Recommendations Switch 2 Not Charging Any Recommendations?

Thumbnail

Hey everyone! So a few days ago, I've noticed that my Switch 2 is not charging or displaying on my tv screen. I've already tried searching up videos and looking on the Nintendo Support website on what to do, such as restarting my Switch 2 or plugging it into an wall outlet instead of a power bank (just to let everyone know that I’m using the official ac adapter, not 3rd party). I would also like to mention that I’ve owned my switch since launch date, so a problem like this hasn’t happen before. My guess is that the problem is the ac adapter, not the switch, since I tried to charge it to another device which didn’t work, but I tried a non-official charger and tried it on my switch 2, with it registering but not really charging the switch much. I also tried leaving my adapter alone which worked when I plugged my switch back in. For only a second. Then it immediately stopped charging. From what I heard, I should leave it alone longer because a “safety lock” or something like that is restricting the charge. Has anyone faced a similar problem? Thanks! (sorry for the long and confusing writing)

Repair I'm sending my switch 2 to get repaired, do I need to include everything I marked in the request

As said in the title, I'm sending my switch 2 to get repaired after a sudden death, in the moment I made the request I marked I'd be sending the switch 2 with every accessory, including joy cons, dock, charger etc. My question is, after thinking it better I don't think the accessories have anything to do with the problem, so I don't know if I should send them or not, what I'm worried about is if there's any problem as I marked them when making the request.
