The single biggest Japanese land defeat was handed out by the British Empire during the Burma campaign. Emphasis on the Empire as the majority of the fighting was by the Indian regiments with British leadership and special forces. Field Marshal William Slim was arguably one of the best allied commanders of the war with how he learnt from earlier defeats, and re-energised the Empire forces with better training, tactics and logistics.
