A massive upset in the first match of the PFL season as Mendiola scored a late equaliser to deny Maharlika victory, in a hotly contested 1-1 draw.

It was a back and forth opening 40 minutes, with Mendiola defending well against repeated Maharlika incursions, whilst threatening through some wicked set piece deliveries by new signing Rhys Williams.

Maharlika looked fluid but couldn’t find a way through a new look Mendiola defence, and had to rely on a screamer of a goal from Jaehyeon Park to open the scoring, the midfielder running from the half way line before rifling into the top corner from 25 yards.

Maharlika dominated the second half, but couldn’t find a second goal. New striker Ren Nagmatsu may feel partially responsible for the draw, having let numerous chances go begging.

Mendiola’s back line excelled, with new keeper Kosaka particularly impressing, alongside the two centre backs of Bishop and Unsworth.

It was looking like Maharlika may escape punishment for their missed chances, but former player Yuya Kashibawara returned to haunt his former side, rifling a shot home from a tight angle after a swift counter to send the Mendiola fans home delighted.

A terrific opening match!

Preferably around Bay, Los Baños or Calamba. Ever since I moved in Laguna, I’m having a hard time looking for clubs or teams that have open plays or training during weekends. It’s hard to find clubs even, most of what I’ve seen are for kids.

I really miss playing and I haven’t used my spikes for years. Please let me know if there are any clubs that you may know that offer open play or trainings.

(I wish the football and futsal scene in Laguna was more visible.)

I want all sports do here and genuinely support people like Eala or Caloy succeed in tennis or gymnastics and I love basketball too so I support Gilas success. I get football will always have a tough time, but I just get frustrated people diminish this sport as boring or even try to demasculize this sport, when we see worldwide how not just football player but fans show very masculine and even a more real energy that sports like basketball or American team sports don't have.

I just get down at times, seeing pinoys possibly think even something non-sporting like beauty pageants for women should be forced down not just women but even men and that deserves more budget and investment.

Don't want to bash or be a hypocrite because our culture is our culture, but I just don't believe football should be seen as something like chess or ping pong( no offense to those sports). I think many understand most filipinos love ball first, but to say football can't even be second gets really frustrating to me.
