This is either going to be a food crime or absolutely delicious
Pinterest at it again showing me some weird stuff you can do with pickles. Has anyone tried this??

This is so stupid. I will be doing it later today.

I can only imagine how fucking salty this would be. If they did a salt free though

u/hollyberryness 2d ago
Could make some fresh quick fridge pickles of your own with cucumbers and vinegar + seasoning in place of salt/sugar.
(I friggin love quick pickles)

u/sephrisloth 2d ago
Ya i would just do it myself. Most of the store bought taco seasoning is just salt, cumin, paprika, and chili powder mainly with a few other things sometimes. I always have all that stuff in my spicy cabinet anyways.

Imagine this would work well if not better with pickled red onions to go on tacos or in a burrito too

Just throw in some chili powder, cumin, onion, and garlic and skip the pre-made packet

They do sell low sodium taco seasoning packets, but I would imagine it would still be pretty salty.

There are recipes online for taco seasoning mix. Cumin, salt, pepper, oregano, garlic, chili powder... I'm missing something. Paprika maybe? I just salt to taste when I make the tacos.

Tackles gets my vote

u/Jumpy_Fuel_1060 2d ago
Agreed, but it must be pronounced tockles, like the a in tacos sounds like "ah".

u/puking_penis 2d ago
I read with a midwestern pronounciation like "ya want some tahckles on yr tahcko syahlid?"
"O you bet"

I think this is a situation where a two word name just suffice. Taco Pickles is a reasonable and understandable name.

u/Jimbobjoesmith 2d ago
i hate the name. i hate the idea. and i just know that’s gonna be the saltiest thing ever.

u/abofh 2d ago
Aside from salt, Taco seasoning is mostly cumin, you could prolly do it yourself with much less salt

u/Accomplished-Sun1983 2d ago
Standard homemade taco seasoning uses a blend of chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, oregano, salt, and black pepper. But yes you can make it yourself with less (or without any) salt?

It’s not bad, but the cloudiness of the brine made them feel like a “dirty” version of pickles. I saw the mustard pickles post also, and for some reason, I think I like clear brine. Not sure why it matters to me.

u/roses_unicorns 2d ago
Cloudy brine reminds me of moldy pickles that I find on the shelves of our local grocery store. I am scarred by the jars I've seen.

u/Conscious_Minimum583 2d ago
You do understand that there are pickles that are purposely a cloudy brine? Like bubbies brand it's a lacto fermented way of making pickles there supposed to look like that the jar even says.
2
u/roses_unicorns 2d ago
What! No, I had no idea. Interesting. I'm going to have to try them now. I'm haunted by my local Kroger. All of the Vlasic and Mt Olive ones are typically moldy all the time. It's not a very good Kroger in general to be fair.

Not with taco mix, but Ive done the same thing with ranch dressing mix and pickles and thats really good so I could see this being decent.

u/LKayRB 2d ago
I like them in chamoy/tajin
2
u/PondRides 2d ago
I’ve eaten pickle slices with tajin. Why have I never thought to put it in the jar?
3
u/PM_your_Nopales 2d ago
I just made a jar of pickles and substituted the salt with tajin. I'm excited to try em

u/PondRides 1d ago
Let me know how it turns out!

Was going to comment that I have done the same thing with the ranch packet. They were pretty good.

That’s intriguing….

I hate to be that person but the sodium levels must be off the charts 😮💨 😅
10
u/Dorkinfo 2d ago
Definitely the time to use the low sodium mix or make your own taco mix and omit salt.
2
u/Toastburrito 2d ago
I stopped using those mixes years ago. They are too salty.
Cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and assorted chili powders will get you most of the way there.
I even make my chili powder from dried chilies.
3
u/Dorkinfo 2d ago
I usually just wing it with spices. I have some lime pepper that’s a good addition.
6
u/InternetMysterious21 2d ago
I remember trying this about 5 years ago. The first few are good, but hard to finish the jar.

Tockles sounds better but it looks offensive written down somehow so never mind

Nah, salt only affects blood pressure if you’re unhealthy and eat like an asshole. Example is Japan consumes just about double the sodium per capita that the US does but doesn’t have the obesity issues we do…. And we eat a lot of salt

They are pretty good! I would probably get a low salt content taco seasoning next time or something because that was my only complaint!

The quality of the pickle matters. Use spears. I’ve done it with a ranch package. 6/10 for me. Good flavor but overpowers the pickle.

And just 1,000,000% of your recommended daily value of sodium led serving!

Meijers (grocery store) did a fun Cumin Lime, and an Achar Masala pickle chips that were both great. I can definitely see a salt free taco spice being awesome.
Bonus: if you’re into olives try the Meijers Chupadedos and Tapas. :)

A local martini bar does a Cajun pickle martini with Tony’s on the rim. I have taken the pickle garnish and wiped the seasoning while snacking. I know it’s a stretch, but it can’t be all that different, right?

Just add crushed garlic to the jar, and then let them sit for a few days... You won't go back to regular dill pickles.

I feel that would give you like the most crazy farts known to man, like if you have any digestive problems, wow. Maybe it's just me, but that taco seasoning and pickles? Girl don't you be comin to my house after eating that. The audacity!

The way those pickles look in the jar is a class 1 felony! They look like they’d disintegrate if you removed them from the jar!

u/SweetSultryS8tan 1d ago
I did have a pickle taco this weekend that was really good, but this is a food crime.

You have to taste at least two test tickles to be sure they’re good enough for your friends and family.

u/Minervas-Madness 2d ago
Calling them tickles is a food crime on its own. But this could potentially be tasty.
