Sliced up my pineapple upside down cake and drank a pineapple smoothie out of my pineapple cup. Overall, an abundance of a delicious flavor. Also binged the movies while wearing my new Psych merch gifted by my baby sis.

Psych is my favorite show of all time, and I love rewatching it, discussing it, and eating pineapple (grilled with some cinnamon sugar is my favorite way to make it!)

I’ve started reading Sherlock Holmes books earlier this summer and there is a pretty clear connection between Sherlock Holmes and Psych (Shawn as Sherlock, Gus as Watson)

Now, that wasn’t something I discovered/determined. This video goes into a lot details on why Psych is the best Sherlock Holmes adaptation and I am pretty sure I got the idea for my little series from seeing this video posted on this sub before (I was reminded of it’s existence last week, and started watching it, and haven’t finished it yet, but so far it’s been a fun watch!)

But, as we consider it as an adaptation, it’s fun to consider what episode is the a retelling of what story. There are 121 Psych Episodes and 60 Sherlock Holmes short stories, so there may be times where more than one episode seems to reference a story but that’s where the fun and discussion lies!

So, I’ll plan to post a small summary of each story (y’all can let me know if the summary is bad, too short, or too long) and we’ll go from there!

So, without further ado, here’s “A Study in Scarlett”

Watson, a recently returned army doctor, meets Holmes and agrees to share rooms with him at 221B Baker Street. Soon afterward, they are called to investigate the mysterious murder of Enoch Drebber, whose body has been found in an empty house in London. There is no apparent wound, but the word “RACHE” has been written in blood on the wall. Holmes carefully examines the crime scene and notices details that the police have overlooked. He determines that Drebber was poisoned, rather than stabbed or strangled, and deduces that the murderer was a tall man with distinctive boots who had entered the house with Drebber. Holmes also uses the evidence at the scene—including footprints, the position of the body, the blood on the wall, and a woman’s wedding ring—to reconstruct what happened. When Joseph Stangerson, Drebber’s companion, is subsequently murdered, Holmes connects the two cases and realizes that the killer is targeting both men. Through a combination of deduction, scientific experimentation, disguises, and information gathered from London’s network of street children, Holmes eventually identifies Jefferson Hope as the murderer and has him arrested.

The novel then explains Hope’s motive through a flashback to Utah. Years earlier, Hope had loved Lucy Ferrier, but she was forced to marry Drebber after her father was killed and her family became subject to the authority of the Mormon community. Lucy died soon afterward, and Hope swore revenge on Drebber and Stangerson. He eventually tracked them to London and killed them by forcing them to choose between two pills, one harmless and one poisoned. Hope dies shortly after his arrest.

It’s my birthday tomorrow and my younger sister and I just finished her first watch through of Psych (my 3rd). Tomorrow we are binging the movies, drinking pineapple smoothies, and eating this delicacy. It, however, did not take 19 hours as it was baked with something more substantial than a 60 watt bulb.

Hello to anyone who saw my initial post months ago (maybe even a year at this point?)

I’m sorry to update but I didn’t manage to make contact, but it was mainly an issue on my part. It could be entirely possible using the methods people mentioned in the comments of the initial post, I just ended up getting extremely busy and I couldn’t find the time to actually reach out and contact everyone, so the plans fell through.

With this being said, I’m in my junior year now for those curious, and I’m likely doing something music related, and still trying to connect the musical to the final product! If anyone is interested, after I present my senior capstone senior year, I’ll try to revisit this with my presentation.

In Not Even Close, Encounters, Lassie’s crap list has Hillary Clinton twice and “Sean” Spencer.

Jules: “I don’t ask questions I don’t want to know the answer to.

Shawn: “Never ask a boyfriend about f he thinks your sister is hot.”

That scene just gets me every time. Shawn just try to casually flirt and Juliet looking around to station trying to find Shawn.

Season 8 was tricky, with Vick and O’Hara off in SF. And obviously no one can replace Juliet.

So I think this casting of the brilliant Mira Sorvino as the quirky Betsy Brannigan to bring us home was perfect.

We want to hate this character. She was forced on Carlton by the mayor. She was why Juliet moved to SF, thus potentially jeopardizing Shules. And she doesn’t really need Psych.

But none of that is her fault. She’s just good at her job. And how often do we see a quirky feminine character who is highly competent at their job and not a manic pixie dream girl trope?

Plus, she’s the only one who could really mold Buzz into a competent detective.

Every time I watch the end of that episode, when Gus and his tap instructor have their recital and Juliet and Shawn are in the audience I get the chills! I would love to watch Dulé Hill perform live. It’s such a cool and heartwarming scene both as an actual performance and in the show’s narrative, with Shawn’s amazement at his friend’s skill (which he had long ridiculed).

What movie or TV reference is shawns thumping noise? I was thinking Edgar Allen Poe's The Tell-Tale heart...? Is there something else?

What's your obligatory pineapple item in your home?

As a psych fan I feel obliged to have a pineapple in my home as a nod to one of my favorite shows.

I though this was such a funny moment for the show. It's so hilarious and immature, but I loved the whole pineapple upside down cake thing. And then I think someone ate it at the end and found it completely disgusting.

So, I’ve started reading the Sherlock Holmes stories and thought a fun little series here would be to discuss a Sherlock story and discuss which Psych episode best represents it.

Just gauging if there would be interest in that or if it’s not something the sub would enjoy.

The way some people talk about it you would think that Lassiter actively despises the mere existence of Shawn for virtually the entire first 2.5 seasons until "Lassiter Did A Bad Thing". But on doing yet another rewatch, I aim to slightly challenge that belief.

I feel like Lassiter only actively hates Shawn the first 3, maybe 4 episodes of the series. This is when its seems like Lassiter actively wants Shawn to not just not get cases, but be cut loose from the department entirely, and exposed as a fraud, and put behind bars for good, previous convictions being over turned be damned. I feel like Speak Now is really the last time he actively tries to really arrest Shawn. Starting around Woman Seeking Dead Husband, you can tell the early signs of the dynamic from going from actual hatred to just extreme annoyance is starting. He doesnt really threaten Shawn when he is in his car, or at the end when Shawn tries to get him to say Shawns psychic at the end. Instead he just seems annoyed that this is the antics he has to deal with. In episode 5, he seems to have mostly shifted to annoyance with mild amusement / respect such as when he is just really frustrated at the cat getting dragged to the scene / Shawn getting involved in teh first place. But he seems to find it amusing although he would never admit it when Shawn was doing his dancing routine in Vicks office, and he admits at the end for the first time that Shawn's work wasnt so bad. Then in episode 6, he once again just seems frustrated when Shawn is dragged into the case, but doesnt fight him when Shawn says they're a team at the end after the case is solved and they did it together as a team. It feels like by episode 6, Lassiter has fully transitioned from "I actually hate this asshole and I want him gone forever" to "Well he's annoying but he knows how to do his job so I have to tolerate being around him, so lets just get this over with" with that transition starting at 4. And by episode 10 and beyond, its very clear that no matter how much he refuses to admit it, that he does respect Shawn from a work results stand point even if he hates the how it is done, and he is long past the "expose him" to just simply "survive him" mode
