I just want to share a project i worked on, since I personally prefer the Ashen knight pyke skin,
its a mod that replaces pykes abilities to fit the ashen pyke aesthetic.

This has happened 3 times for the first freakin time last week .. I locked in pyke supp .. ADC locks in Yuumi .. THEN LEAVES ME FOR JUNGLE . What is the logic ????? Why come in on bot if you’re gonna play yuumi either way, and not even play in the damn lane ?????????? ¿ Por que ? I was so pissed when it happened again today like what the hellianna ??? I typed, jungle typed like yo wyd????? They didn’t answer 😂😂 thankfully I was cracked out those games , but jungle came in CLUTCH with the ganks right on time with enemy jungle but OMG BRO. I try to respect choices in this game please play who you want .. but 🤔🤔🤔

Playing pyke is actually playing hard mode. Like OTP him is just miserable. At almost every situation naut is just better pick. Sure he has an insane early game but every game u feel like u are on a timer. If you get counter picked then there goes ur early game. God he’s so fun but blind picking him, just not it.

And if you adc is ass plus a counter pick and you team doesn’t have a front line coz playing pyke is a sin then ur game is basically over if u don’t have a carry in other lane. Also there is a massive difference roaming when you winning and roam on your bot timer vs bot is doomed and I have to play other lane or the game is over. It’s even worse if ur adc can’t play safe bot and just die and rarely you generate enough lead vs enemy just stay bot and winning. Naut just say ehhh whatever I will sit baby sit bot and ult the back line late and build locket and bandlepipes and scale with the team.

i really love pyke like i cant stop playing him but i absolutely despise the support role. ive got to emerald with pyke mid by playing him as a hyper roam carry, completely different from the traditional mid playstyle. however, as my rank has gotten higher, the hyper roam just stopped working and it felt a lot more forced. do you guys think i should look for different playstyles for pyke mid or just replace him with another ad mid like yone? anys opinions, tips, or suggestions will be greatly appreciated

So ive started really playing LoL when pyke came out and mained him over the now 8 years (fuck im old), so ive basically seen all of him and i cant but hate what he has become.

In my opinion the changes that completely ruined Pyke were:

1. V8.22 where they changed him to run on lethality which disables any fun build since youre basically restricted to the same itempool of exactly 10 items which makes the game extremely repetetive.
2. V9.13 where they removed his ability to damage non-champs with his e and multi target dmg on his q which makes it impossible for him to play anything but support due to the lack of damage.
3. V11.5 Made his passive work on lethality instead of ad and work (most efficiently) against 2 or more enemies and nerfing it, fixing him to botlane.
4. V14.3 Was the last patch he got buffed in February 7^th, 2024, more than 2 and a half years ago despite being continously powercrept.

This causes Pyke to have a repetetive and uncreative, as well as unrewarding playstyle for he is forced to build the same items in the same role OR HE WONT WORK and even then its easier to get the same or even better results with other champs due to his atrocious cooldowns and low health.

This is something that is exclusive to Pyke.

Now i wanna talk about my biggest gripes with him:

- Compared to every execute in the game, pyke is one of the weaker ones since it is a skillshot that can be dodged (dash), flashed, zhoniased, zilean ulted, guardian angeled,etc. unlike Darius, Garen, Mel, Asol E

Enough counterplay exists, but since he was op in his past, hes just getting slammed by riot and left to rot in balancing hell.

-hes been in D-tier (overall) for the consecutive last 4 years and nothing improves.

-His W also sucks, due to it being the only camoflague ability giving the enemy an indicator hes close, unlike twitch, evelyn and akshan and if a control wards range touches your detection range ur cooked. Oh and did i mention that i scales with the stat only pyke actually uses?

This also gets worse using soul fighter prestige for the indicator is BRIGHT FKN YELLOW

-His cooldowns are a joke, even on highest level. If compared to stronger hooks, it seems unreasonable.

Paired with his low max hp and necessity to build lethality over protective items for the hp to ad scaling is a nightmare.

Additionally, this lower than caster hp, extremely high cooldown champ is melee so he needs to be in the middle of the god damn damage.

This makes him basically unplayable in low elo soloQ for they cant even handle an amumu.

-Due to the XP changes ganking with pyke thows you back at least 1 level, even if you were ahead, making one of pykes best uses obsolete.

-His character fantasy doesnt exist within the game. In lore he is almost a horror monster; an undead revenant unable to escape the maw of the jaulfish, hunting down all the list commands, but "the list never gets shorter". He slays great beasts of the ocean and is an almost unkillable unitö

In game tho he is squishy, has low damage and is mostly incapable of working alone and completely incapable of going solo, WHICH IS A CORE PART OF HIS CHARACTER FANTASY

The best way to describe pyke as of right now is HM-slave. He is an assassin without the damage and every nerf affecting A: lethality items or B: hail of blades becomes a central nerf on him

Summary:

Pyke is an obnoxious example of used to be strong, now hes weak and powercrept in every aspect for every ability he has exists on another champ in better.

Sadly my boy was nerfed so hard that it is not worth playing him for every task he has is done better by someone else and the parts he was good at were slowly removed by riot as the game changed (see supp role changes).

Please interpret this objectively.

I've seen Davemon build Zhonya's on Pyke one day. It's a rare situational item against burst champions. Since the item gives nothing to Pyke's passive (and it's an AP item), it obviously has to be built as a last item.

But I actually think it's a great idea against a lot of burst damage : it gives you more survivability late game, surprises a lot of enemies, who end up burning their spells on you (and type " Pyke Zhonya wtf" in chat), denies free resets for champs like Viego, etc., and allows Pyke to go all-in on the backline and engage more creatively in late.

What do you guys think about it? I do this build time to time for a year, as very situational, and I still don't know if it's genius or troll (I'm Emerald 3, fyi).

Picked up league last month after 2 years break and started to OTP Pyke and I’m having such a blast. I know he is really weak atm but for me he is such a fun champion to play!
I just hope they bring back Ashen knight to the mythic shop soon… I really need that skin 🥺
