Currently reading Paladin’s Hope by T.Kingfisher and I would absolutely love books with the same vibes!

In a tv show, people say you should watched up to 3 episodes to see if the rest of the show is worth continuing. Is there the same test in books? Should we read an 'x' amount of pages or chapters before we are to determine if the book is worth reading?

It frequently gets called a "perfect novel" or a "hidden masterpiece" so I thought to give it a try and I finished in 4 days, I am completely blown away especially the last few chapters.

For those who loved it, what exactly clicked for you? And for anyone who didn't like it, what felt missing? I want to see what you guys thinkkkk! It's a solid 9/10 for me.

Hi, I’m an avid reader, to the point where most of my summers as a child would be spent reading books.

Cut to adulthood now, and it’s a great space for me to relax once I’m done with work or as some off screen time. But something I’m noticed more recently, is the way the type of book that I’m reading affects my mood.

For instance, if it’s something sad, I actually tend to carry that emotion away from the book and into my day. More like a dull thought at the back of my mind.

Same with any other type of emotion.

I was just wondering, if anyone else feels the same?

Curious about books where you’d actually appreciate another edition, hardcover, illustrated version, etc. because you love it so much!

Mine would probably be The Psychology of Money.

I am hoping to come across titles that I haven’t read but if people love it this much, it’s probably worth a read.

In all honesty, I mainly read non-fiction but don’t limit to only those books. I am sure others might be interested in those genres.

I’m looking for something that grabs you quickly and makes you want to pick it up instead of reaching for your phone.
Bonus points if you can explain what made it so addictive without spoiling anything.

I've always found rereading interesting because you already know where the story is going, but at the same time you can notice details you completely missed the first time.

For people who regularly reread books: what makes a book worth reading again?

Is it usually the story itself, the characters, nostalgia, or simply wanting to experience the writing again?

And is there one book you've read multiple times that still feels enjoyable every time?

I'm curious about how people here approach this.

Do you normally finish one book before starting another, or do you keep two or three books going at the same time depending on your mood?

I can see the advantage of focusing on one book because it's easier to stay immersed in the story, but switching between different books also seems like a good way to avoid losing interest.

For those of you who read a lot, which approach actually works better for you?

I’m 25M, working in IT in Mumbai, and trying to make reading a regular habit.

I recently finished Ikigai and have picked up Sapiens next. I don’t want to finish one book and then stop reading for months 😅

For people working full-time, when do you usually read — before work, during your commute, before bed, weekends, etc.?

Setup is the easy part honestly, but making it a habit to actually sit down and read with them is what really matters. I gotta lead by example.

I have tried getting into reading a lot, but idk why it just doesn't work for me, I tried actual books and Kindle too but I find myself distracted either by playing games or doomscrolling on my phone. The only time I read a book completely was because school forces me to. I find audiobooks to work a little better but i was still unable to complete one.

I can consume other medias like movies, tv shows, games, just fine and can even read articles on Google and wikipedia about topics i searched.

So I just wanted to ask, how did you all get into reading and find books interesting and stop yourself from getting distracted.

I became an author because I always loved reading. I wrote thre books and can't seem to even give them away! (Famlies and friends don't count, they're obligated :P) I don't care if my books sell, or about becoming famous. I simply would like to find a couple people who would consider reading my books and discussing them.

My books are fiction, part sci-fi, part horror, mostly psychological mystery. I write my books to all be in the same alternate universe so they connect and sometimes cross over. With plenty of future stories planned to be added on, I need to have readers to feel its worth continuing.

Which one do I tackle first? Choice paralysis has set in.

It seems book prices are going up everyday and getting new books frequently is becoming an expensive hobby.

Do you read reviews, the synopsis and discussions before starting something, or would you rather know basically nothing?

I feel like there’s a fine line between knowing enough to get interested and accidentally learning half the plot before page one.

What’s your preference?

Everyone says not to judge a book by its cover, but surely we all do it at least a little.

If you knew absolutely nothing about two books, would a great cover genuinely make you more likely to pick one?

And on the other side, has a terrible cover ever made you avoid a book that was apparently really good?

I am super late to the game but I am finally reading (well listening to) forth wing. I'm totally hooked on it. Anyone else on this book and want to talk about it? I have so many thoughts. What would the world be like if we had dragons to bond to and we went through threshing. What are your thoughts on Xayden. How will Andarna turn out to be in the later books or what do you imagine her to look like?

I keep thinking about how weird it is that we can reread a book, but we can never truly experience it the same way twice.
The first time, you don’t know the characters, the twists, the ending, or which tiny details are going to stick with you. You’re just along for the ride.
So if you could erase one book from your memory and read it again with completely fresh eyes
