Community The nicest people I have ever met

As an immigrant, I called Regina home for 15 years. I moved there from Toronto in 2010 before relocating to British Columbia in 2026. Back in Toronto, people had warned me that Saskatchewan was a conservative province where immigrants might not feel accepted and could face racism. Instead, I found a deeply welcoming community.

Throughout most of my time there, I worked two jobs to build a life. Whenever I struggled, people were always ready to lend a helping hand, offer an encouraging word, or simply show up with quiet generosity. Being surrounded by that kind of genuine warmth made the hardest days easier and turned a new country into a true home. Good people don't just help you get by, they give you a sense of belonging, lighten your mental load, and make you feel seen and valued.

At the time, I assumed everywhere in Canada would share that same neighborly spirit. While I've met nice people in BC as well, I know deep in my heart that Regina holds a special place. The community there is truly one of the kindest, friendliest, and most open-minded I have ever known, and I genuinely miss living there.

Discussion Another peaceful summer night ruined by the police plane.

Honestly, I get it an eye in the sky is good and supports the ground forces but I've lived in multiple cities in Canada over the last 5 years and Regina is the only city I've lived in where that plane is up every single night and the citizens just seem to be okay with this nightly disturbance.

I just spent 2 weeks in Vancouver and 1 week on Calgary last month and it's not nearly as obnoxious as Regina's police plane. It's 11:35 pm and it's been up there for hours. And almost every night this summer. Gross.

I'm actually considering moving and that's a major reason for it. I'm lucky that I have the means and freedom and essentially I just want to sit out on my deck and enjoy the night and not be constantly reminded of our surveillance state we live in this city or talk to a friend without having to raise my voice just so they hear when it flies over. Talk about a major buzzkill for this city.

Edit: to the people saying this normal city noise and to just accept it, just lol. Clearly you missed my point where I said I've lived in multiple Canadian cities. I also regularly have guests stay with me from larger Canadian cities who are equally as appalled. Regina is a small-medium sized city, if Vancouver doesn't need a constant plane floating around with the amount of crime and drug use there at 10x the size, why does Regina?

Discussion City of Regina to Provide $1,648,000 for Extreme Weather Spaces

I would like to see 24-hour security provided outside the warming spaces to limit the impact to neighbours. People loiter outside the warming facilities at all hours of the day and night, and there is yelling, profanity, fighting, drug-use, dirty needles, graffiti, emergency vehicles, sirens, fires and garbage.

The report is available here:

Question Schooling and Welfare?

This may be a dumb question but I honestly have no idea , please be nice about it.

I am F19. So i'm currently on welfare and I pay rent with it for a room plus the food i need and my phone bill. But i've been really wanting to go to school (maybe online because I a have a disability), but can I do schooling while also being on welfare?

I feel stuck and frustrated, because my welfare is the only way to have a place to stay. But i also want a good paying job in the future and have a job I love.

So can i be on welfare while also going to uni? Sorry if i sound dumb.

Media I like when Cole takes over for Lee

I like when Cole Davenport takes over for Lee Jones on CTV news because he can pronounce words that have more than 2 syllables. Seriously though, someone needs to review scripts with Lee before broadcast.

Sports Regina Rams tickets

Curious if anyone knows if tickets for an individual game to see Regina Rams football has a discount code or similar? Looking to come into Regina and would love to check out a game. Here in Winnipeg, you can use an alumni code for 2 free tickets per game. Happy to share/swap codes too!

Many thanks in advance!

Question Hair care recommendations for the hard water and weather?

Might be a weird/dumb question but ever since I moved here, I feel like my hair has gotten so dry and frizzy. I don't know exactly what it is about here besides the hard water that's doing that but I see a lot of people with really nice hair and I'm just wondering if I'm missing a step in my hair care routine.

Is there any recommendations?

Question Saturday Night Karaoke Bachelorette

Coming from Swift Current to Regina on Saturday for my bachelorette party. Are there any Saturday night karaoke parties that people would recommend?

Also looking for other fun things to do. Our only plans were show up Saturday afternoon, go to Labour Day Classic game on Sunday and hope that the Rail Yard Saloon is open after the game lol. It's literally just me and my bestie so we're down to make the most of it.

Question U of R - Masters in Ed Psyc

Is anyone taking the Masters of Education Psychology program? I’m interested in applying for the practicum stream that offers potential to become a registered psychologist after.

I’ve been looking at the programs website, and it says the program is 4 years long, but only requires 30 credit hours? Is 4 years the actual length or just how long you have to complete it after acceptance?

Would you recommend someone mid career apply to this program? I am not a teacher or psychologist but I have a BA, and have worked in adjacent positions for many years.

Question Gas price difference. East vs South.🤔

Why is gas so much cheaper on the east side vs south end?

Noticed a pretty wild price gap around the city lately. Filled up at the Co-op on Quance (east) Saturday at $1.33/L, but the Co-op by Walmart South is charging $1.60/L. That's a 27 cent difference for the same brand, same day, only about 10 km apart.

Seen similar gaps between Esso and Shell stations depending on the part of town too.

Anyone know what's driving this? Is it just competition/proximity to other stations, different supplier contracts, or something else? Feels like a big enough gap that it's worth planning routes around.

We already know about Crave and Bushwakker. Are there any others?

Question Looking for Employment Reviews as a 911 Emergency Medical Dispatcher

Edit: There has been quite a few comments removed or deleted. If you aren't comfortable commenting here, I can message privately. This would be a HUGE change for my family so I want the good, the bad and the ugly.

I am on the hunt for a new career and have seen SHA postings for medical dispatchers and I am thinking about applying.

Can anybody here give some insight to how the job is? Outside of the obvious horrible calls you will get. I have done some reading here on Reddit but haven't found anything local. Is the scheduling really horrid? Can you expect to not participate in Halloween and Christmas with your children again? Is it impossible to call in when sick or schedule a vacation? Is the work environment tense and toxic? Do they have good mental health supports and the actual ability to use them?

I appreciate any insight anybody can give.
