Real-life Robots just saw a glimpse of what home robots might actually look like

The robot can do things like clean the house, feed pets, help look after children, and take on some of the endless daily chores at home.

Of course, we're still a long way from having a truly capable robot that can reliably handle all of this in a real home.

But honestly, seeing this kind of progress makes the future feel a little more real.

What would be the **first thing** you'd want a home robot to do for you?

This is part 1 in tutorial is about building your won MechSoul(Mechanical Soul). A MechSoul is to a robot what a CyberDeck is to a computer. A robot that you build yourself as a form of self-expression as well as freedom of owning your own hardware and code.

In this tutorial we are setting up a MechSoul seed(a robot base to be customized into a MechSoul. ) assembling it and setting up Arduino IDE. You can find assembly and setup resources as well as other resources in our tutorial github at by clicking here.

Real-life Robots Can you help? I am looking for examples of humanoid robots being deployed and performing useful work.

So, I am a bit of a sceptic so far. I have not yet seen a video of a humanoid robot performing work reliably, to a standard which might reduce the need for human workers. I posted an example myself, of a robot sorting mail packages, but that was undermined by suspicions the robot was being teleoperated, and the packages were highly standardised, so it was probably not a real-world test.

I expect it will come, but is any economic activity actually here yet? Can you show me some?

I do not include human dancers in this definition of workers. I see lots of impressive demos and adverts, but not any tangible work being done yet.

Projects Labs are now putting people in motion suits to capture 'intimate' positions and movements in an effort to train humanoid dolls. Was this on your 2026 bingo card?

Real-life Robots A.I. Robots — A.I.R.(Heir)

A.I. Robots — A.I.R. (Heir)

I’ve been playing with a possible name for something we may need in the future:

A.I.R. — Artificial Intelligence Robots.

It works on several levels.

A.I.R. describes what they are:

embodied artificial intelligence—AI that can leave the screen and interact with the physical world.

AIR suggests something that eventually becomes almost invisible because it is everywhere: robots in homes, hospitals, factories, farms, disaster zones, perhaps even space.

But there’s something buried in the word robot itself.

Robot entered English through Karel Čapek’s 1920 Czech play R.U.R.
(Rossum’s Universal Robots). It comes from Czech robota, meaning forced labor, compulsory service, or drudgery.
And here’s the linguistic connection I love:

Russian работа (rabota) = work.

Russian работать (rabotat’) = to work.

They’re closely related Slavic words with the same historical root. So robot carries an ancient idea of labor inside its very name.

Then there’s the part I like most:
AIR = Heir.

The original robot was named for work—essentially the worker.
But perhaps the A.I. robot becomes something different.

If intelligent robots eventually inherit our knowledge, languages, science, art, history—and perhaps responsibility for maintaining parts of civilization—then heir becomes strangely appropriate.
Not necessarily our replacement.
Our heir.

Maybe someday A.I.R. could be a category, protocol, organization, or even a name for the emerging relationship between artificial intelligence and robotics.

There’s a strange linguistic journey hiding here:

robota → работа → robot → A.I.R. → heir

From laborer to inheritor.

Just wordplay for now.

But sometimes a useful idea begins by finding its name.

A.I. Robots — A.I.R. — AIR — Heir.
