Ruck will begin at Cadman Plaza in Brooklyn, cross the Brooklyn Bridge and conclude at Foley Square.
That is a really tough rout. No one understands how big the bridges are here, and there is no shade. "only 1.5m" completely ignores the terrain and season: September is still summer in NYC. Plus the city obviously can't give people an amount of weight that could seriously injure someone, especially since the event is open to all ages.

I'm 6'1, 215lbs...36" inseam. I bought the L/XL, and my wife the S/M.....I prefer the fit of the S/M over the L/XL...so I exchanged mine for the S/M. Food for thought.
It still has adjustability, but it sits just much more comfortably than the L/XL did. I think their sizing is not accurate.

I ruck everyday although it is neighborhood rucking so there is not much change in elevation. However I will feel it in my feet and joints if I don't stretch those areas. I don't have any issues with the larger muscles of the legs.
Since you mentioned your feet, I am going to share some of the feet and ankle mobility exercises that I do. Standing on a yoga block, I do tibialis raises, calf raises, alternate heel raises. I also do tibialis raises and calf raises squeezing the yoga block with ankles. You could also use a tennis ball. Without a yoga block I do toe breaker and I will stretch the muscle on the top of the foot. Also I will intertwine the fingers between my toes on the opposite foot to open up the muscles.
I did a quick Google search to give you an idea of what I am trying to relay. Hopefully this helps.

I think you need more recovery built it. You are probably hitting a mental wall as well as slowing exhausting yourself. Adding in a full recovery day every week should help. If you are feeling tired while rucking, just slow down - you still get all of the benefits and lose nothing but a little bit of time.
For your full body workout, I would recommend some periodization. In other words be sure to significantly switch it up every 2-3 months. This will deliver better results and give you something new to focus on and will probably improve your motivation to keep at it.

I use the REI brand, mostly because it was something I can go out and replace without needing to wait for shipping. They do wear out after about a year, but between the heel tape and liner socks I have had 0 issues with blisters.

Sounds to me like you need more recovery time, to be honest.

M67, started a few years ago training for a trip where I needed to carry camping gear in a rucksack, then discovered it had a name.
I still cycle, but only really run at parkrun now.

It depends on the individual. How do your feet react to a long period of time under load walking? Duct Tape is a bit extreme, and probably not really necessary. It could have been a “that’s what I had at the time” thing.
For me, mine is purely preventative maintenance. I know my feet will potentially get a hotspot or blister the longer I am rucking. I prep my feet before the ruck. A 2” strip of leukotape along the outside edge of my foot, wrapping under my pinky toe. Both feet. Then a 2” strip of moleskin along my achilles, where my ankle exits the shoe, on both feet. Happy Feet or other foot lubricant around the rest of my toes and top of my foot.
If I am going to be hiking all day, I will change socks at the mid day break if needed.
I take the tape off as soon as I am done, and walk around barefoot as much as possible afterwards.

Between 4km and 6km. Should've said, I mostly "just" ruck to and from work, but actively try to get the extra km in by walking a longer way back home in the evenings and extra km on Fridays when it's my day off (on this day, I might manage 6km plus).

Yes, you’re missing something. The event is for people 2 years of age and up. It’s 1.5 miles at the end of which is a resource fair to connect people to city and veteran services. It states clearly:
“Participants who are interested in rucking with a weighted backpack may bring an empty backpack and will be supplied with a gallon-sized water bottle at on-site registration. Participation with a weighted ruck is at your own risk. Please exercise cautionary discretion.”
So, people can ruck with what they want. Bring as much weight as you prefer. If my 6 year old or 7y year old mother want to give it a try. The 8 gallon water jug cushioned by a sweatshirt or two sounds like a good idea, given we don’t expect the city to buy a bunch of weighted rucks for these events.
Also, if you want to go longer than the 1.5 miles, you might plot a route after the initial community building activity and head up manhattan. Quite a few good options whether you end up over on the Hudson, East River, or in between

Am I missing something or are they saying it’s only 1.5 miles and you don’t get to bring your own weighted ruck so they give you a gallon of water to put into an empty backpack? A gallon of water weighs 8 lbs.
I love the idea and immediately wanted to participate, but this isn’t designed for people who actually ruck or are physically capable veterans/active duty. This skews much more towards another Mamdani photo op.

Silk liners, I haven’t heard of this one yet. What brand do you use?

I’m training with a 35 pound ruck plate plus water for the GTE-71 in KCMO this October. But I haven’t gotten over 5 miles yet bananas of blisters.

I’ve been breaking in MudGear speed ruck boots for two months.
