Help: Other Thinking about getting an SV650

Hello guys and gals.

Need some advice and opinion on what to get next.

Some context: I live in Europe and I have an A2 license (bikes limited to 48hp) but in December I'm about to get my A license (no restrictions).

The thing is right now I have a 2018 Ninja 650 and I had a ton of fun with it but also issues. Now that I'm about to upgrade my license, I've been checking out other bikes and specially older ones cause I feel that the ninja has no soul...

One of the bikes I have in mind and heard really good stuff about it is the Sv650.

I wanted to know if it's worth the change from the ninja to a SV or go for an GSXR/CBR 600 / something bigger instead.

(I prefer handling over speed but never had a super sport and an inline 4 before.. so I do have an ich for that...)

Thanks!

Edited: I'm referencia to the SV650 non naked

Help: Other Are these good tires?

Post image
19 Upvotes

Definitely don’t want to skimp out on tires and in doing some research found these at Walmart and seem like a good middle-tier tire. I only really ride on the weekends on some back roads, no highway driving or heavy commuting. Will these tires be a good fit or should I just spend the extra money on road 6’s?

Maybe a stupid question but its not very obvious, what even goes there? Is there something to fill this hole? It obviously has screws and is just collecting water and rust currently..

Help: Other V-stroming a SV ?

Hello

I'm interested by the SV as a first bike, but I'm really not a quick rider, and would prefer a more relaxed ride, quite comfortable, for daily riding and road trips... To make it short, a Vstrom would fit better, but this bike is quite tall (I'm only 1m75), big, heavy...

Did someone here built a SV or SVS aiming for making it a little "road/touring bike" ? I was thinking at some higher bars, high windshield, comfort saddle, topbox/panniers, maybe a bigger gear ratio for fuel economy and lower RPM,...

Thanks ;)

Help: Other Does SV650 have aggressive response?

I'm a new rider (did BRC course this weekend and got my license today) although I rode 200cc Vespa for about 10 years and dirt bikes on the farm a handful of times.

I was browsing in a dealer today and they asked if I liked anything I saw and I said I liked the Honda CB500, but was also looking for SV650.

The guy said he also has a SV650 and didn't suggest it for new riders because it was too aggressive and wheelies too easily.

Is this correct? I thought that SV650 had a pretty predictable throttle and was okay as a first bike?

Maybe he was hoping for a sale on the Honda? He seemed like a pretty cool guy but I don't have good judgement with dealers.

edit: thank you for all the replies! too many to respond to individually, but I'm feeling good about getting a SV650 now.

It's funny to hear that the SV is difficult to wheelie by mistake because when I got my 200cc scooter, I wheeled it the very first time I rode it because I had zero clutch control (and I guess the Vespa center of weight is closer to the rear wheel).

Everything I read about the SV I think is perfect fit for me. I'm not planning to ride aggressively, but I want to enjoy twisties on the weekends, and have power to overtake without struggling on the highway (and also I love how the SV looks too)

Edit 2: I got a used 2020 SV650 about 3 weeks ago and have ridden about 200 miles so far and I’m absolutely loving it. Everyone was correct, it’s not crazy aggressive and I haven’t gotten anywhere close to an accidental wheelie. I’ve had a couple situations where I’ve needed to accelerate quickly- once to escape a driver I didn’t want to be around, and a couple times at merging onto freeway and it gets you to speed quickly in a controlled way. I feel like it’s literally the perfect bike for me and i’m going to enjoy it for years.

Help: Other Is this a decent price?

Hello,

What are your thoughts on this 2003 SV650 with 20,000 miles?

Seller has it priced at $2,900, pretty sure I could get that down a little. Where number would you be happy with?

Seller states: - clean title - just serviced - new fuel pump - “mechanically perfect” but needs fairings

Let me know what y’all think.

Help: Other Gen 4 stock seat

Post image
61 Upvotes

Needing advice on seat upgrades for a 2024 model. I currently have the stock seat, but after riding for an hour or two my ass feels like I have gone for 12 rounds with Johnny Sins, and makes riding painful for days afterwards.

I'm currently eyeing off 3 different upgrade contenders in Bagster seats (faitly cheap and comfortable), Corbin (seem to have the best reviews), and Tuck and Roll (have heard mixed things but they seem the easiest to get in Australia)

Does anybody have experience with any of these, including the purchasing/shipping situation, or does anybody have any other suggestions?

Help: Other Quiet end can

Hi,

I'm looking for a fairly cheap end can that will be under 100db at 75% revs for my 2009 SV650s.

The reason for this is because my current exhaust is too loud for the track day (strict UK track limits) I have booked in a month's time.

All recommendations are much appreciated!

Help: Other Help needed!

Found a MINT 2020 SV650 in the color I’ve been looking for. Here’s the crazy part: only 40 original miles. One owner, essentially never ridden, just been sitting in his garage. Now he’s finally given up on riding and is now trying to sell it.

He’s asking $7500 which I obviously will not pay.

If all checks out, how much SHOULD I pay?

As per the header, I'm having trouble finding anything at all that's not sold out. I could even 3d print one if I really needed to.

What's everyone running ?

Does anyone know of something that's not scalped on eBay and that is available from the manufacturer?

Help: Other How do you know when it’s time to sell?

I bought a 2004 sv650s in 2017 and loved the hell out of it for a few years. I’ve since gotten into mountain biking and my risk tolerance has changed a bit since I don’t use it for commuting or anything. It’s basically been sitting in my garage taking up space for the last 4 years with fuel stabilizer.

I bought a new battery and took it out for a ride the other day. It ran great and brought back some great memories but 9 times out of 10 I’d rather take out the mountain bike on a nice day. I’ve been mulling over the idea of selling it recently but am worried that I’ll regret it down the road. I don’t need the cash or anything but my garage space is at a premium lol.

Help: Other Opinions on sv1000s's

Hi all, I'm on the fence about selling my current 2014 MT07 High Output (tuned, pipes etc) for a SV1000S, looking at the 2006-7 options currently.

I test rode a traded in sv1000s today at a local dealership and kind of fell in love a bit.

I'm a big guy (6'2, 105kg) and it was the first time I actually felt like I fit into it (behind the windscreen/fairing) rather than just riding on it. The extra torque and power felt just right coming from the MT, with the extra top end power being absolutely mind blowing on the open road.

I use my bike for commuting and town riding as well as a considerable amount of open road and hoping to plan more road trips in the NZ summer. Seems like the perfect bike to do it on.

The MT is almost a bit boring and predictable, the SV seems to have much more personality.

Keen to hear experiences from owners and other opinions.
